Paradigm System PSH T

Paradigm System PSH TThis item lasts longer than others I have tried, is easier to fill and doesn't leak. However I feel they were a little generous with the number of cigars it can humidify. I would half the number of cigars or double the devices.

UPDATED OCT 2010

I would still half the number of cigars HOWEVER, when I ordered a second one of these it actually came with instructions. I was filling this under a running faucet. WRONG. Soak in water for five minutes. They work great and mine last for a month. The humidor is in my finished basement.

I use it, it helps but isnt great. Can't hurt to use it, but not the greatest thing around.

Hunter 31948 Replacement Wick for 33116 Humidifier

Hunter 31948 Replacement Wick for 33116 HumidifierThe replacement filter works perfectly. Local Ace hardware store, who sold me the humidifier, doesn't carry the refill! They did show me where I could buy it from you, however.

These need to be replaced often. Maybe I need a new humidifier but mold builds up quickly. Note that you must check these wicks immediately upon receipt for tears at the seam or else you might not be able to replace them or get a refund. I received a defective one that was partially torn at the seam. Seller provided a partial refund since I reported it after 30 days.

SLANT/FIN Puri-Clear 55 Air Purifier Replacement Filter

SLANT/FIN Puri-Clear 55 Air Purifier Replacement FilterI have been using these air fliters for about 15 years along with many others I was disappointed when the manufacturer sold out to a different company who discontinued the filter packs yes, I was one of those who kept buying new units after a few months the air quality was noticably better when this was running I have one in my office and people always remark how much better the air is in there. In any case, I have been browsing for this filter pack just hoping that it would show up again and KAZ (the aquiring company) must have seen all of the negative blogs and web sites I visited as they have made them again!! I ordered a bunch for the 3 units I have going (winter and summer) and will let my friends know they are available again many of them liked the effect but refused to buy new units when the filters got gunked up.

DeLonghi PAC700T Pinguino Portable Air Conditioner

DeLonghi PAC700T Pinguino Portable Air ConditionerI purchased the PAC600T (one step below this unit) from Amazon one year ago. When it arrived, I filled the tank with water, inserted it in the unit and my floor was covered with water less than a minute later. Turns out the unit's plastic base housing was cracked during shipment. Amazon replaced the unit, with the same results for the second unit. At that same time, there must have been lots of returns because Amazon stopped selling the unit. I stepped up to this unit with its slightly higher BTUs and hefty price.

The unit arrived fine, no leaks after filling with water, and I used it most of last summer (in a 14' x 20' room with average height ceiling). The unit puts out cool, definitely not cold, air. The only way to really use the unit is to get it started when the temperature isn't too high, then keep it running. I don't think it would be able to cool a warm room. It simply isn't overly powerful. That may have to do with the fact that it operates at 110 volt, rather than 220 like many AC units that are built into apartment walls.

The unit has been sitting behind my couch all winter. When I went to use it this year, the removable plastic water tank was cracked. It was emptied at the end of the season and not exposed to excessive temperatures, so I don't know what that's about.

I assumed that with the high BTU (and price tag), this would be the unit to use. But I'm going to try one of the less expensive units this year and check out its performance.

I bought 2 units last year. At first it worked fine. Then, this season, when I started to use the air conditioners, one of the unit leaked at the base, ruining my wood floor. I thought I could just use it without water, and I found it to be very insufficient to cool off the room. I have used different models of pinguino and I found that the newer models are more problematic. If it isn't leaking, then it is the alarm light that kept coming on, shutting down the unit. I followed the maintenance procedure to clean the unit, but it doesn't seem to help. I am fed up with pinquino. I think I may have to switch back to those window units.

This product,DeLonghi 700T,was about the worst purchase that I have ever made. The unit ran for 10 mins and then shut off. After several attempts,we finally found the service center that replaced the fan motor--after a 4 month wait for the part. But that did not fix the problem--the unit shuts down after a short run.Because all of this has taken so long,Delonghi says that the warranty is now limited and that I have to take the unit to a service center 50 miles away.It has been close to 2 years and I still do not have a functioning air conditioner.

I purchased a Pinguino PAC 700T 3 years ago. Rated at 12,000 BTUs, it cools about as well as a 6000 BTU in-window unit. However, at the beginning of this summer season, I find that it no longer cools or dehumidifies air. I found DeLonghi's central service number (800-322-3848 in case you need it) and asked for my nearest service/repair center. They informed me that they no longer have any repair centers in Massachusetts. They suggested that I take the unit to Hartford, CT, about 2 hours from Boston where I live. Having paid $1300 for this unit just 3 years ago, I expected better service than this. It appears that DeLonghi maybe doesn't care too much about supporting their products after the sale. This will be my last DeLonghi product of any kind.

Want DeLonghi PAC700T Pinguino Portable Air Conditioner Discount?

Last September 2005 my Mother and brother spent a considerable amount of money purchasing the alleged state-of-the-art current DeLonghi Pinguino PAC 03U portable 7500 BTU air conditioner as a gift for us during a S. CA heat wave. Ironically, we only needed it one day before the weather cooled off during which the unit cooled nicely and worked fine. We carefully emptied it and stored the air conditioner upright until July 2006. We just reconnected it during the current heat wave here in Altadena, CA. We turned in on at night when the outside temperature was 89 degrees. The unit put out tepid air no matter how we started and ran the unit or where we set the fan and thermostat. We followed all "troubleshooting" instructions and find ourselves left with a large white plastic doorstop. It is sweltering today (over 109 degrees out) and we have no air conditioning. The tech support line isn't open on weekends, of course, and is only open Eastern time on weekdays. My family spent a lot of hard earned dollars on the Pinguino and it has lost coolant or failed for some other reason after one use and benign storage! Worse, a search can't even find our model number (Pinguino PAC 03U). It's like it never existed. We are not happy customers and hope to get some sort of compensation from Pingunio, IF we can reach someone about this model. Good luck in staying cool if you've bought one of these things.

Classic Kettle Tea Pot Woodstove Steamer Mister Humidifier - SOLID BRASS

Classic Kettle Tea Pot Woodstove Steamer Mister Humidifier - SOLID BRASSDon't get me wrong, it is beautiful. Unfortunately, I was looking for a tea pot that my wife could use to make tea. When it showed up, it had a label that said "not for drinking purpose." It should have said that in the listing. I have checked many of these that were listed as not for drinking. This did not and yet it did list that it was solid brass. I thought brass was good for potable liquids. It is too small to be practical as a steamer. It is also made in China.

This was purchased to be used on our fireplace insert and it is working well. We are very pleased with this Tea Pot

Unistar 4-in-1 Swamp Cooler with Ionic Air Purifier, DF268.

Unistar 4-in-1 Swamp Cooler with Ionic Air Purifier, DF268.pros:

saves you in energy bills since it can cool the room instead of using the ac

filters are washable

the included remote gives you controls even in bed

the 30 min interval timer feature is great specially when it gets too cold at night

cons:

the ionizer feature is more of a display light than anything

needs a weekly maintenance. water mineral builds up at the bottom, if you let it sit for more than a week, taking it out posts a problem.

if you even find the time to actually clean the insides of the fan and and take out the dusts and water deposits, it would take a lot of patients since the machine wasn't designed for easy disassemble. (you'll need a thin long screw driver to take out some of the screws.)

bottom line:

machine is great as an alternative humidifier and room fan. It is a high maintenance machine make sure you clean it every week or two.

The air conditioning in my building has not been working, so it has been about 80-85 degrees in our cubicles. With this product, I am actually able to be comfortable. It was very easy to set up and get going and the water lasts a long time between fill ups. I do add ice to the top for more cooling. Three people have bought one since they have seen mine, and others stop by to cool off. I shopped around, and this cooler was about the best price and, as I said in the title, it is also kind of "retro" and cute, as well as functional.

Buy Unistar 4-in-1 Swamp Cooler with Ionic Air Purifier, DF268. Now

This unit has been perfect for my intended use.

My co-workers prefer to keep our office building a bit warmer than I am comfortable. I have set the Unistar Swamp Cooler in the door of my office, and it effectively keeps my office several degrees cooler than it would otherwise be. I wasn't sure when I bought it whether it would work in a humid region, and have been very happy that it does. Nor does it make the environment uncomfortable humid. I assume that if the primary central A/C went out, this thing wouldn't do much of anything, though, in South Carolina.

Also, the manual is a joy to read. Honestly, I've read it cover to cover at least three times. It is an excellent and humorous example of non-native translation. Example: "Attention: Any parts of the control panel should be forbidden to be stained with water." Well, it amuses me, anyhow. . .

UPDATED 1 September 2011

I've had this swamp cooler for 2.5 years now. I use it every business day. It still performs well. As for maintenance, I had to take it apart to clean it after about a year and a half, and just today had to give it its second cleaning. It takes about twenty minutes to take apart, clean, & put back together -so less than an hour of maintenance time for 2.5 years (in addition to occasionally wiping down the ice basin & rinsing the filter). It's made out of plastic which I would imagine will only stand up to two or three more overhauls, but it's not cheaply made to the extent that it should lose a star. This thing is really a champ.

This is a great fan, nice looking, quiet and effective. I use it in my garage apartment and provides a nice comfort level. It is easy to operate and fill in with water. 8 gallon tank requires re-fill every other day. It comes with 4 ice packs. I use 2 at a time with the other two in the fridge and replace the ice packs every day. The top of the unit also has a compartment, where I add ice daily. The only thing that could make this fan better looking is to have a choice on the color. White is great, but would be nice to have a choice for the side light green color.

QualityRH Beads Cigar Humidifier Tube for 250 Cigars

QualityRH Beads Cigar Humidifier Tube for 250 CigarsI opened the tube and weighed the beads to ensure I had enough to use in my humidor. Most Humidity Bead manufacturers will state you need about 1oz for 540 cu.in. in your humidor. I was hoping the product description was wrong in weight, it was not. My 120 cigar humidor is roughly 977 cu.in. and so requires about 2oz of beads. These tubes have 2oz of beads in them, half the amount suggested for 250 cigars.

I used this for a tupperware humidor for some boxes i recently purchased. The size was just right and it holds my container at about 67% RH which is great since the rooms RH is normally around 30%

Buy QualityRH Beads Cigar Humidifier Tube for 250 Cigars Now

If you've used humidity beads before, then you are aware that they are the easiest, cheapest (in the long run), and best solution for cigar humidity. And if you haven't used them but are looking for a new method because you're sick of buying glycol/Boveda packs, etc., then just order this. I won't bother discussing the merits of humidity beads; they are already the standard method used by knowledgeable cigar aficionados worldwide.

This is a very large tube and will easily regulate the humidity in your standard large desktop humidor. It's pretty much a facsimile of the Heartfelt Industries tubes (or it could be the same seller. *shrug*) but seems to be even bigger than their biggest size. And, as is the case with humidity beads, the more the better and means longer, continuous stable humidity, regardless of the size of your humidor or amount of cigars.

Lastly, mine arrived in a single day. Amazon Prime made this transaction so easy, and the price is right. I have no reservations and would (and will!) buy it again.

The product advertised on the page, which I purchased showed it neatly packaged, clearly indentifying it as manufactured by Honeywell and was the reason I decided to buy it, believing it to be a Honeywell filter.

Unfortunately the filters I received were not individually packaged making identification impossible, which aroused my suspicion as to whether what I ordered and paid for was what I was sent.

I immediately contacted Amazon and was given a refund.

Old Mountain 10129 Pre-Seasoned 2-Quart Cast Iron Tea Kettle

Old Mountain 10129 Pre-Seasoned 2-Quart Cast Iron Tea KettleA good kettle for adding humidity to the air on top of a woodstove. Do not buy this for drinking (tea, etc...) it was not made for that; it develops an interior rust crust after about a week. I would buy this again for my woodstove.

The kettle arrive quickly and in good shape. While I originally wanted a larger kettle, I have to admit that this one is easier to handle than my old one. It says that it is pre-seasoned, but it began to rust inside immediately and even shows rust aroun the rim under the lid. One good thing about cast iron, though, is you don't have to worry about it boiling dry as you do with other kettles.

This was a good buy for us. We live in Wisconsin and have a woodburning stove in our house. The kettle makes a noticeable difference and makes the air less dry. It also looks nice because it matches our black stove.

I guess the inside is not treated because it rusts pretty badly. The outside, however, stays nice and black. Also, it is pretty heavy to move so we have been taking a cup of water TO the stove to fill the kettle, instead of bringing the kettle to the sink.

Like other reviews I experienced rust boiling water as instructed. Had to season it myself -not sure it was ever seasoned. Made in china. Don't trust the production standards there. Could have been painted for all I know. Good for use as a decorator item and humidity source with a wood burning stove. However, it will rust if used as a humidity source. I won't drink anything from it.

**PINK PEARL** Amazing Portable Humidifier & Mist **MADE IN KOREA**

**PINK PEARL** Amazing Portable Humidifier & Mist **MADE IN KOREA**This is an amazing product!

Just conect it to a computer usb port and voila, a nice almost smoke like textured steam comes out without noise only wit very little hissing.

I hook it on a volvic water bottle (1.5 L) I happened to have around.

The instructions say it fits evian water bottle in usa.

It runs at least 10 hrs on my volvic bottle because this bottle is wider and contains more water for it's height.

Great to carry it around to your car, office, home, and I hope I can hook it up to usb port in airplane too! I am planning to buy more to put it both at home and office etc and to give away as a gift. Korea rules!

Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier

Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating HumidifierI have the predecessor that was black in color. It's 3 years old and still works great. Definitely evaporates lots of water into the air. The reservoir must be filled 2 to 3 times per day depending on how often your furnace comes on. It's somewhat of a chore but I get used to it. Keeping the household humidity at 60% or better surely makes lower thermostat settings tolerable so it's a money saver in that regard. The unit uses about 100 watts during its intermittent runs.

Mine is so accurate that it is almost perfectly synchronized to furnace operation. Furnace comes on and shortly thereafter the Lasko humidifier starts up. Furnace shuts off and shortly thereafter the humidifier shuts off. I presume the same accuracy is maintained in this newer white model.

These do use disposable paper filters. I use 2 per season. Cheapest source for the filters is direct from Lasko. I bought a box of 10 for $50 right after I bought the humidifier and I've got about 5 filters left. Even if you throw away about half of them, you'll save money compared to single filter prices at brick and mortar stores. The shipping was free at the time. Maybe it still is.

Humidifiers require periodic maintenance. These Lasko's are no exception. Each year, I sit the thing in the bathtub and fill it's reservoir with vinegar/water and let it run about 30 minutes. This dissolves or loosens the mineral deposits. After rinsing, I then fill it with a bleach/water solution and let it run about 30 minutes to kill mold spores and dormant bacteria.

That yearly demineralizing/disinfecting is somewhat of a chore but I only have to do it once. That's enough to get me through the entire heating season.

All humidifiers require some maintenance--even the ones connected directly to your furnace. I've read operator's manuals for most every one of the furnace mounted units and some of the maintenance procedures are complex and labor intensive compared to the little bathtub routine I've developed for this Lasko.

When I think I will install a furnace mounted unit I search the internet and read the reviews and realize why I put up with this Lasko cleaning routine. Many of those furnace mounted units require demineralizing and disinfecting just like the Lasko--except that I can put the Lasko in a bathtub and keep the mess contained. If I had to rinse and clean a furnace mounted unit, I'd have to use a wet/dry vac to sop up the spillage all over the basement floor, I'm sure. On top of that mess, it seems that furnace mounted units die at an early age due to mineral deposits that can't be controlled.

When the temperatures drop to about 15°F or below, our furnace runs a lot. The more the furnace runs the more the Lasko humidifier runs. I'm sure I have to fill the removeable reservoir 3 times a day or more. It seems to be sized so that a full reservoir lasts about 8 hours. That's enough to get a full night's sleep. Actually, the removeable reservoir holds about 8 hours worth. There's another several gallons in the base to supply the unit with water so you can easily stretch it to 12-14 hours between fillings. I do it all the time. It's just that if you stretch it to 12 hours or more, you'll have to fill the removable reservoir 1.5 times to completely "fill 'er up" again.

All in all, I don't think I could live without a humidifier. We feel warmer, the children cough less while sleeping, there's no static electric sparks when we touch objects or each other ... it's worth the hassle, I think.

This unit says it will do a 3200 square foot home. I guess that's so, but, it's quite nicely sized for homes smaller than that because it won't have to run on high to do the job. Buying the biggest humidifier means you can run the fan on low so it's as quiet as possible.

Once a year I also take it apart to clean the dust from the fan blades and the vortex shroud. This isn't absolutely necessary but it makes it look new again. About 6 or 8 screws removed lets the thing come almost entirely apart for cleaning.

So, a humidifier takes some work no matter what type you get. For a household humidifier, I like this Lasko but I've also got a wife and kids to share in the task of refilling it 3 times a day.

I'm a home handy man so I'll be able to replace the motor in this thing when it goes bad. I don't think it will cost much.

Lasko sells parts and that's what I truly love! Unlike other companies, Lasko actually has parts available and they sell them at reasonable prices.

We use Lasko ventilation fans year round as a sleep aide to produce "white noise." I've got a remote controlled fan that I've come to depend on. After about 4 years of daily night time use, I needed a motor for it last year and, sure enough, Lasko sold one to me and the cost was about 1/3rd that of a new fan.

For the home do-it-yourselfer types, Lasko is the only way to go because they sell parts. Other companies, like Holmes, don't stock any parts at all. Once the complete Holmes unit comes from Taiwan or Sri Lanka to your store's shelf, that's it--you can't get a part even if it was missing from the package before you bought it.

Lasko has a respectable warranty and they don't charge a fee. Holmes and other companies like them charge you a fee that they call "handling" just to get a warranty remedy. That "handling" fee is usually 2/3 or more the cost of a new fan. In other words, you have to pay to return the defective item to Holmes, you also have to pay that "handling fee", and then they might send you a replacement. Lasko doesn't do that. I think that they do require that you ship the item back to them at your cost.

This is a recirculating type of humidifier so it doesn't throw white dust all over everything. The other type of humidifier uses heat to evaporate water (like a distiller) and in the process, all of the minerals of the water become airborne grey-white dust. I don't like that idea. These recirculating types just trickle large quantities of water through a paper filter. The filter retains the minerals.

I remember as a kid, about 45 years ago, I used to sit on my grandmother's floor and enjoy the breeze from a "ottoman" style fan and it had the name "Lasko" on it. I used to think it had something to do with Alaska. I presume it's the same company--still making fans and things that circulate air.

Our house is so well insulated that the furnace doesn't run often enough for a furnace-mounted humidifier to work well in our 255 s.f. house. As a result we've tried a number of different kinds of portable humidifiers.

The ultrasonics don't put out enough volume. Nor do the spray mist ones. The warm mist ones have a very high operating cost. For a couple of years we used a wick-and-fan humidifier that had plenty of capacity and ran quietly. The problem was that the wicking filters were expensive ($16 each) and rapidly lost their capacity: a filter that would wick 5 gallons a day was down to 1 gallon a day within two weeks. So even this solution cost us almost $1/day for filter replacements.

The Lasko Recirculating Humidifier seems to have solved this problem: instead of water being wicked up by the filter, the filter is wetted from the top by a little built-in aquarium pump much in the way that furnace-mounted humidifiers work.

We've been using this humdifier for three weeks now. It is slightly noisier (even on its lowest setting) than our old one; but the noise is not objectionable, and the volume of water being put out has not decreased at all.

I can't speak for the longevity of the product, but its operating costs should be very low, and its technology is exactly what I've been looking for for years.

Buy Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier Now

This is my second one of these. The first one performed well but quit working after 3 years. It was inexpensive so I bought another one. I bought a cheaper model this time that didn't have the LED displays the first one had. This one just has a knob with no readout of setting or room humidity. The reason I did that was the LEDs on the first one quit working after about two years. I figured this simpler one would be less likely to fail who knows?

I keep it in the master bathroom and fill it twice a day from the tub. It uses a lot of water which is what I want it to do, but without the convenience of the adjacent tub it would be a pain all these portable ones probably have this problem.

I keep it on the medium fan setting and it seems fairly loud for the first few days but now I'm used to it and I don't notice it coming on and off.

The area around the unit remains dry so it works well as an evaporative humidifier which is what you want it to do. It puts moisture into the the air, not the floor. I keep it on a bath mat to catch the drops that result from the filling operation.

My bedroom ceiling and wall joints have quit coming apart in the wintertime like they did before I added this humidifier so it does the job well.

Read Best Reviews of Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier Here

For some reason I find many of the 1-star reviews of this product frustrating...almost all of them can/should be attributed to human error and not defects in the device itself.

Yes, if you hold the jug by the one handle water can leak from the valve at the end. Guess what? It has two handles. Use the one at the other end and it doesn't leak at all....use the top handle only when loading the thing into the unit itself.

Yes the little pictograph at the far end says you press the little spring-loaded lever to fill it at the tap. But the entire lid also unscrews to fill using a larger source (like a bathtub).

If you can fill a glass with tap water and not smell the nastiness within, great. Fill that glass then let the water evaporate from it completely. Repeat. Eventually that glass will smell (and look) REALLY bad from the contaminates left behind by the water. This is the process your humidifier goes through daily on a large scale. This is why they have filters. The nastier your water is, the more you have to change filters and clean the unit; and if your water smells, then there's absolutely nothing ANY humidifier can do to help you with that problem. If the water rings your toilet or sink drains, you're going to have problems with any device that is built to evaporate water.

Is it noisy? It can be; it has a big fan that runs to pull the moisture through the filter. It also has 3 speeds and the lowest isn't objectionable. It also has a humidistat so it will run automatically. No, it doesn't have a digital gauge and a build in hydrometer, so you will have to buy a hydrometer ($3, walmart) and play it by ear; here's a hint: Crank it to the max; watch the gauge over the course of a day. Dial back a bit. Repeat until desired humidity level is reached. Why is this is a difficult procedure?

If you find that your humidifier isn't humidifying your house like you would like it to, instead of spending 10 minutes writing a review on Amazon bashing the unit, spend 5 minutes googling for "humidifier placement" and discovering that placing the unit near a cold-air return will allow it to humidify the entire house instead of just the room its in.

Its built from plastic, not solid oak, so yeah, you don't want kids playing near it; but there's a lot of things in my house susceptible to damage from small children. This thing is the least of my worries.

I've had this unit for 2 weeks. Its not flawless, but i don't think its deserving of some of the criticism being delivered here. There's no such thing as a device that's immune to operator error. The only thing these people should really be faulting Lasko for is not being able to read their minds or providing a user manual that's 200 pages thick (which then nobody would read and Lasko would go out of business trying to print).

Want Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier Discount?

I've only had this for one week, and I came very close to sending it back because of the noise. It is effective in putting water into the air, but the fan is really loud. There are three fan settings, and it's reasonably quiet at the lowest setting and you can have a normal conversation when near it. At the middle setting I have to raise my voice, and at the high speed I would have to start yelling. At the lowest fan setting, it puts about 2.5 3 gallons of water into the air per day, or about 1/3rd of it's rated capacity. I've decided that 3 gallons per day into the air is enough to be a benefit and I will keep this unit. I plan on only using the lowest fan speed and I leave it in a room where I don't spend much time.

As another reviewer pointed out, humidifiers are rated in gallons per day of water into the air. The rating has nothing to do with the size of the water storage. This Lasko is rated for 9 gallons per day (using the high fan speed), but storage capacity is 3 gallons plus 1.5 gallons for the refill jug, for 4.5 gallons total. I like the fact that I can have this running continuously while filling up the jug. Since I only run this on low, I only have to fill it once a day, which is great.

There are some design problems with this humidifier. First, the housing is made of flimsy plastic, and seems like it could break easily. This flimsy plastic also forms the mount for the fan and fan housing. The fan on my unit was not centered within the housing, and the fan blades were extremely close to the housing on one side. With the fan on high and sometimes medium speed, the fan blades would hit the housing and make a terrible racket. I was able to loosen the 4 screws that hold the fan and slightly reposition the fan so that no longer happens at any speed. From the other reviews, it seems like a common problem with this model. My comments on the noise above are for the sound level AFTER fixing the mounting problem.

The other design issue I have is with the refill jug. There is a recessed/retractable handle (good), but the shape of the top is rounded, so it will not stand upright on its top. Since the jug is refilled from the bottom, it would be nice if it stood upright. If the handle is retracted, it will stand lopsided on its top however, so this is just a minor annoyance. There is a valve on the bottom of the jug that is only opened when installed in the unit, and when depressed manually while refilling. This spring loaded valve is just plastic mating with plastic, and is not water tight. So if you carry the jug right side up by the handle, water will leak out the valve. It's not too hard to carry the jug upside down since there is a handle on the bottom too. I just refill and carry upside down, and then turn it right side up while over the reservoir of the unit; it still spills some water if I'm not careful, but it's acceptable.

There is a little plastic window in the side of the unit that has water trickling down when the fan/pump is on. This is to tell if the water is flowing, and it also makes a pleasant sound; can only hear it with fan low and even then the fan sound dominates. Nice little feature though.

The controls on top are for fan speed (1, 2, 3 and off), plus a humidity level. It shuts off when the humidity reaches the set level, and turns back on when it falls below that level. There is a green led that lights up when the humidity level is met. I tested to make sure this works, but living in dry Colorado, I expect it to be on all the time.

Mine came with 4 casters to make it easier to slide around. They work fine, but I had to press so hard to install one of them that the receptacle (flimsy plastic) cracked slightly.

A04-1725-051 White Rogers Humidifier Replacement Evaporator Pad

A04-1725-051 White Rogers Humidifier Replacement Evaporator PadI ordered the White Rogers Humidifier Replacement Evaporator Pad, two in fact. I was a bit disappointed to find out when they arrived that they were Skuttle Pads. I would have been happier receiving what I actually ordered. It fit, which is the only reason I gave it three stars. All in all, it works, so I can't complain, but it's frustrating to order one product to get another. I have no idea if this is the same quality or not, but I was trying to get the right pad for my humidifier, which is a White Rogers. From what I can tell, even though I paid the White Rogers price, the Skuttle was cheaper. :(

Skuttle 000-1317-091 Wick For 2000,2001 & 2002

Skuttle 000-1317-091 Wick For 2000,2001 & 2002Not a lot I can say except it's exactly as the original wick and that's a good thing. I think there was a minor mixup with the order because the wicks (ordered two) were originally on back order then arrived in two separate shipments of boxes that were much larger than necessary. Both could have easily fit into a regular business envelope. No complaints at all about the product.

Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630

Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630We bought this humidifier to replace one that was purchased about six years ago, also a Honeywell model. That model had a two gallon tank and would shut off if the water ran out. Compared to that, this newer model has a relatively TINY tank, at perhaps a gallon or so. Since the unit is rated at 3 gallons per day output, that would mean quit a bit of refilling on very dry days. On our old unit, the tank had a handle on the underside (where the fill cap is) so that when you filled it, you had something to hold on to. Not so with the new unit. And to make matters even more difficult, the bottom of this new tank is not flat, so you can't just set it under the faucet and expect it to stay there.

The most annoying thing though is the absence of an automatic shutoff and indicator light when the water level gets too low. Because the tank is in the back of the unit, it is hard to see the water level. This thing will run and run and run without water, drying out the filter so you have to take it out an re-soak it again. While stylistically nicer, this units functionality is a real step down from previous generations of their humidifiers.

Quiet, works well, needs to be refilled daily. Filter only lasted 6 weeks. My local Home Depot doesn't stock replacement filter. Must order online. Buy extras when ordering humidifier.

This humidifier was about as quiet as they come for the first few weeks. It abruptly started making a lot more noise. We've tried adjusting everything but the fan just sounds a lot louder now. I don't recommend buying it if the quiet aspect is your prime concern.

The filter does need to be changed quite often as the other person mentioned.

Only had unit for a few days and it stopped working.Motor ran,but did not use any water.

I emptied it of all water, put some vinegar in, ran that through,it now works great.

Now, I put a few drops of vinegar in every other fill.

As far as the moldy smell, I use a little Sol u Mel in every two or three fills----no mold.(Sol u Mel kills mold spores and dust mites and helps with alot of other "chores" around the house.

This model is very quiet and will put a lot of moisture into the air, especially if you keep the filter moist by frequent turning and replace it when it hardens and becomes less absorbent.

Cigar Oasis XL Plus Electronic Humidifier Refill Water Cartridge

Cigar Oasis XL Plus Electronic Humidifier Refill Water CartridgeAs advertised, my cartridges old cartridges needed replacing, this work perfectly. Humidity, has improved over the old cartridges. Highly recommend.

I have had the Cigar Oasis humidifier in my guitar cabinet and wanted a replacement. The foam in the original unit started to get moldy (from the constant moisture) despite using distilled water. I figure I'll have to replace it every 6 months or so and this was the exact replacement part, so it fits perfectly.

This might do better in a balanced atmosphere but here in AK it runs empty in about a week and one half. I use this with my 300 cigar capacity end table humidor.

Crane Ee-8065 Crane Germ Defense Humidifier - Manual, White

Crane Ee-8065 Crane Germ Defense Humidifier - Manual, WhitePlease note that I recently joined the Vine program but this review is based on my own private purchase (i.e., I paid for it!)

With winter approaching I wanted to get additional humidifiers to help with making household air less dry. I have an old Holmes (an older version of the current Holmes HM1865-U model) that puts out a lot of moisture and has a humidistat. I recently bought a much more expensive humidifier from Brookstone but I found it did not put out nearly as much water compared to the Holmes and the expensive model was not much quieter.

After way too much research online and checking out models at local stores I decided on the Crane Ee-8065. I considered the digital version but for the price difference I did not see the additional value.

The manual version has a small footprint and sleek form-factor. It is incredibly quiet and the mist output can be adjusted. The warm mist does not seem too warm (compared to steam misters) and I mostly run it in the cool mist setting. I am not sure the warm mist would be that great at helping with a cold or illness compared to a true steam mister. That said, my main purpose was to find a quiet humidifier I could run at night. The Crane Ee-8065 has proven itself to be exactly what I need. In fact, I am going to buy a couple more to put in other parts of our house.

The only negative thus far is it is a bit awkward to hold while refilling the reservoir but this might have more to do with me becoming more used to it. The reservoir could be larger too, but then again that would mean the unit itself would have to be larger and I kind of like the smaller size of the unit itself; I can accept the trade-off between size of unit and how often I have to refill the reservoir.

I love the Crane Ee-8065 Crane Germ Defense Humidifier. We recently upgraded from the Crane Drop Shape Cool Mist Humidifier, White as it was damaged due to a flood in our now older apartment. The advantages the Ee-8065 provides from other Crane humidifiers are that of the larger water tank and the ability to set the humidifier to that of a cool or warm mist. For the extra thirty dollars in price, it's a jump that's worth it. Especially when other humidifiers (that actually work) cost double the price if not more. However, there's one problem I have with the Ee-8065 that other reviewers have mentioned.

The lights on the unit. The blue light if the humidifier is turned on or the red light if the humidifier has ran out of water. Either way, the lights on the Ee-8065 could steer ships at night if placed in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. For a device that's usually on when we're asleep, the lights are way too powerful and overbearing. Anywhere we've placed the humidifier in our bedroom, it's almost as if we have an extra light on. Even when we cover the front of the unit with a blanket or jacket to hide the lights, the lights still power through it. It's not only annoying, but also a major inconvenience.

Other than the fact the light is more powerful than the light on top of the Luxor Hotel and Casino, the Ee-8065 is a great humidifier at its price point. Not only does it make it a lot easier to sleep at night, but the ability to clean it is way easier than it was on my past Crane Drop Shape Cool Mist Humidifier, White. If you're in the market for a humidifier, this is one of the best ones to get. I would just be ready with a solution on how to cover up the lighting before you finalize your purchase.

I find this unit hard to clean. I get pink mold weekly in the tube which the fog comes out. You can't reach in there to clean it. Also, the base gets pink and has many nooks to clean. The brush provide does not fit into all of the nooks. Also the bristles are cheap and permanently bend after a couple cleanings.

The simple design of airflow onto the fog stream is nice. I wish more care went into the wells and spacings of the mating parts to make it easier to clean.

The level indicator turns the blue light on and off repeatedly when the water is about to run out. It makes a decent clicking noise (relay of somesort). That is annoying as it clicks on/off 1-2 times a minute for say 30minutes.

I bought the electronic push button model. The one I have has 6 different buttons that you must reset everytime you use it as it has no memory. The only diffence I can see is that with this model there is no timer setting. Unless you need to set the timer setting (it turns off by itself when out of water) I would get this model. I wish I had thought about all the programing you would have to do each time you turn it on. You have to press several buttons up to 12 times to get it on the setting you want. This is alot of time wasted when you are getting ready for bed. Overall it is so quiet I don't even know it is on. I've only had it a week so I don' know about it's reliability.

Want Crane Ee-8065 Crane Germ Defense Humidifier - Manual, White Discount?

I read all the reviews for the electronic version and decided to go with the manual version. One major thing to note when you read the owner's manual, it states to not sit this unit on carpet. Unfortunately, the intake fan is on the bottom of the unit. Brilliant. So, given that all the other flat surfaces in my bedroom are wood, I had to find something flat to sit it on. It absolutely is NOT quiet. That fan has a very annoying whine to it. We have 2 other older humidifiers and they are far quieter than this one (but are unfortunately not made anymore). The light on the front is very bright. We aimed it away from us and it still was too bright at night. Possibly good for a kids bedroom, though. I tried both warm and cool mist settings, and really couldn't tell a difference. You could feel the warm mist right at the unit, so it was heating the mist. I gave it 2 stars because it really does pump out a lot of mist and humidified my medium size room well. So, I'm back to searching for the right combo of quiet, functional, and easy to clean.

Dr Infrared Heater Portable Quartz + PTC Infrared Space Heater - 1500W, Dual Heating System, UL Lis

Dr Infrared Heater Portable Quartz + PTC Infrared Space Heater - 1500W, Dual Heating System, UL Listed.I bought this from eBay for around $190. I have two other electric space heaters so comparison was an easy task. I bought it for our high ceiling bedroom which is about 300 sf. Ceramic heater was useless because hot air would rise up. Then I bought a Holmes Infrared Quartz Heater from Wal-Mart , this was a lot better than the ceramic heater but the fan was really noisy and there was no way to turn it off. Holmes Quartz Heater gives you SUN Like heat and the heat does not rise up like ceramic heaters. Anyways it was way too noisy, You can't have a restful sleep with that thing. Still I thought there was something right with the infrared heaters. Then I looked into Edenpure and other more expensive infrared heaters. They looked promising now that I was already sold on the idea of infrared heating but they were really expensive. Then I looked at eBay and found Dr Heater. Customer Feedback was pretty good so I decided to give it a shot. It arrived in 5 days and I first tried it in our living room which is about 700 sf when kitchen included. Dr Heater was OK, I was not too impressed but still felt it was doing something different. It did its magic when I moved it to our bedroom. In about 10 minutes our bedroom was already warm , and outside temp was 35-40 F. It was set on Auto but later that night I set it to LOW because it was getting really hot and yet thermostat kept showing 66F degrees and never shut off because I'd set it to 70. SO I am not sure if the thermostat was defective or what, it sure felt more than 66 F. Anyways when I set it at LOW it was REALLY comfortable and most importantly QUITE. That's the best thing about this heater, it is quite and you can place it in your bedroom. No other heater could heat our bedroom on LOW because of high ceilings. Dr Heater did it. Overall I give it 4 stars, I was going to give 5 but I still cannot figure out if the thermostat is good or not so there you have 4 and, it is an honest review not like the first review that is obviously written by one of the Dr Heater employees :)

I have an Iheater and the Dr. Heater and I like the Dr. Heater better. They are both good units but the Dr. Heater is smaller and easier to carry around from place to place if needed and the wheels underneath are spaced closer together thus easier to place on top of other units such as a speaker unit that is not in use or a large air purifier that I have thus not taking up any floor space if needed. It also blows heat out harder than the Iheater but in the end, I think they both kick out about the same amount of heat energy.

The Dr. Heater is made of real wood also, where the Iheater and allot of others on the market have plastic shells.

Keep in mind folks that these are just space heaters BUT they are more power efficient and do kick out a bit more heat than the other numerous space heaters that I have and I have quite a few unfortunately... I have found that they do heat very large areas by them selves but do take a while to bring it up to temperature but once there, they are pretty amazing for their portable size and the amount of wattage they use.

They are commonly used in combination with your main heat source so that the main heat source runs less, thus saving you money. The heat is a very comfortable heat and does not dry the air. It seems to disperse the heat much better than space heaters that dry the air. The heat seems to get around allot better but will still be warmer near the heat source of course.

I think if one looks at these as what they really are, in which is an efficient little space heater that kicks out a bit more heat with a more comfortable feel that disperses a bit better will be well happy with these new type heaters. If you look around you can get some killer deals on the Dr. Heater and think the price will come down in years ahead on this new technology as they become more predominant in the market place.

I like both of my heaters but I like the Dr. Heater better because it seems to blow better and whether it actually kicks out more actual heat in the end, I don't know but it makes me want to believe it does...LOL... And the bit smaller size allows me to put it in more spaces than the larger Iheater and the real wood is just a touch more American, not to mention it is well over a $100.00 cheaper thus leaving some money in your pocket to take momma out to dinner before you come home to a nicely efficient warmed house... My vote goes to Dr. Heater and if I get another it will be the same.

C. Ferrisi may not quite understand what PTC is. I looked it up. "Positive temperature co-efficient PTC heating elements are small ceramic stones with self temperature limiting characteristics. PTC stones have fast heating response times and plateau once the pre-defined reference temperature is reached." The infrared lights produce the heat. This type of heating is how you can heat a large area without creating a huge electric bill. Which is why we have a couple around the house so our furnace (which is electric) will not kick on as often. It saves electricity without having to run around the house in a parka! LOL

Ok, I order the heater and they ship a used (obviously returned) unit out to me. I contact them about this and they give me the run around and keep asking if the unit is damaged. I ask why the unit was returned, they don't answer. I ask them to CC Amazon on the emails they are sending, they don't. They offer me $30 to keep the used unit, I say no, just send me a shipping label to send it back for a refund. They say "we don't send out shipping labels." I contact Amazon and ask them to step in. They send me a shipping label. I tried out the unit and it didn't heat even half of the square footage it promised. What a disaster.

I ordered the portable Far Infrared Heater Model DR-968 on 2-22-10. I received the heater in a timely manner. I began using the heater the day it was received. The heater only worked two (2) days. My attempts to get a replacement were not answered until I sent an e-mail through Amazon.com. I then received an e-mail from the company stating a replacement was being shipped out that very day. Waited a week and still no replacement heater. Sent another e-mail only to be told my replacement heater had not been sent. There had been a mix-up and the paper work had gotten misplaced. However, my replacement heater would be sent out that day or latest the next. I just received my replacement heater (3-31-10). I check it and for now it is working. Hope this heater will not stop after a couple of days. It is my opinion, had it not been for one of my e-mails going thur Amazon.com I would still be waiting on a replacement heater. I do not have a lot of trust in this company. Grady W. Conner
