HYDRA Humidifier

HYDRA HumidifierThe Stadler Form Hydra EMS-171 worked very well for six weeks, and then stopped. I ordered a new cartridge, and cleaned the device but it still did not work. The cleaning procedure in the operating instructions is vague, so there is no way of knowing if I cleaned & descaled correctly and the manufacturers website give no more information.

I would not recommend this humidifier to a friend.

Mine lasted about 2 months before it died. Should have read the reviews here before buying it. When it worked it was great. Highly recommended if you only need a humidifier for 6-8 weeks.

I only got to use this unit for a bit due to changes in the weather, but for the short time I ran it it worked well. Good performance at a cheap price, as claimed. I can't comment on long-term reliability as I see this has been an issue for others, but the unit worked well for me.

We have quite a few humidifiers around our home..being in the Northeast the heat dries us out. We have a couple of these ultrasonic devices and they work great.

The Hydra was easy to setup and the manual was easy to comprehend. Install the filter, add water, and voila you are ready to go.

The controls are easy to understand, the device is quiet, and it works well....just as well as some units that cost much much more.

My only issues with this unit or any other unit are simple:

The filters are costly...and they are necessary to keep dust at bay.

The cleaning process requires descaling packets which add to cost.

The ionizer bar, which should be replaced yearly, sometimes is expensive and often makes you wonder if you should just buy another humidifier.

These are great units and they work well; especially if you can deal with the cost of the 3 things above after the first few months/1 year of usage.

4/5 for me.

My Stadler Form Hydra worked fine for over a year. I actually just used it in the winter and stored it during the summer months when the windows were open and the humidity was fine. After using it for a while this winter, I changed the filter and ionic cube for the first time and cleaned the exposed parts thoroughly. It has never worked since. The green light will come on and stay on for a while but no mist is ever generated.

I was easily able to reach the service folks at 877-663-7893 and was told that maybe the humidity was already high enough so the Hydra didn't stay on. It had been raining outside so I left it on for over a week to see if it would finally work. It did not. I was told on the initial call to service dept if it didn't work I could send it back for repair, but I am out of warranty. So I thought it would be easier to buy a new one for $100 than return it to the manufacturer and pay for shipping and repair which may be significant. With the problems I am hearing about here, I will call the service line and see what the estimated cost would be. I may have to write this humidifier off.

For those of you within the warranty -1 year you should be able to return it. The selling store should also take it back if it fails within a short time.
