EdgeStar 40 Pint Portable Dehumidifier - White

EdgeStar 40 Pint Portable Dehumidifier - WhiteUnit is working well so far in my basement. I think it was a good choice. Simple set up. Be sure to wait 24 hours before you plug it in, the fluid in it needs to settle properly. Pretty quiet. Does not freeze up below 65 degrees like my prior unit did. Good unit and I would recommend.

I bought this dehumidifier for a large closet with a dampness problem. It regularly pulls enough water from the space to need emptying every few days and the air feels better. Before the dehumidifier I had to throw out a pair of boots that moldered regularly to the point I couldn't keep them clean and fabric that developed unpleasant smells. I like the small size and the ease of moving. My only gripe is that it is so noisy that I turn it off at night. However it works so well that i am very glad that I bought it.

My husband is the dehumidifier expert in our family, so I can only go by what he says and what I observe.

We have had this unit for only a week, so I cannot attest to it's longevity. But that it does what it's expected to do is beyond question. Our basement is very humid and the smell was getting to be pretty bad. Within 24 hours that musty, dank odor was eliminated. It's already taken about 10 gallons of water out of the air and made the basement dry and bearable. And it's quiet can't hear it running at all upstairs (and the door is open, as we have several cats).

So I highly recommend this unit for anyone who has damp issues in their home.

After reading the positive reviews of this product on Amazon, we bought this dehumidifier. We purchased it July 21, 2011 and used it until October 2011. It worked very well during those few months. We unplugged it and kept it in our family room for the winter and spring. When we plugged it in to use it in May 2012, everything seemed fine. But the water container was BONE dry. It would not pull out any water. We read the owner's manual and troubleshooting suggestions, however, no error codes came up on the dehumidifier. We called the customer service and were told: Take it to a small appliance repair, pay to have it diagnosed and fixed, and we will supply the parts. Shouldn't a product work for more than 3 months? See the Corvette72's review and it is our exact experience. You are taking a real chance if you purchase this product.

This model shares the same owner's manual as the DEP740EW, so I am adding this review for reference.

We purchased the EdgeStar DEP740EW in April of 2011. It worked fine the first year.

We put the dehumidifier back in service at the end of March of this year. In May -one month after the warranty expired -the defroster stopped working. As a result, the unit clogs up with ice and extracts considerably less water per hour of operation, even when placed on a timer to force it to periodically defrost.
