Having said that, I need to give it credit for doing a good job of getting the humidity out of the air quickly. But, because of the heat they put into the house and the amount of electricity they use, they are not worth what we paid for them.Got this particular model because of the price and good ratings. It seems to perform as well as I can expect. The controls and displays are sensible. This model doesn't have a pump, so you want it to drain continuously, you have to place it somewhere hight to let the hose drain by gravity into a sink or drain. The unit comes with a hose, but the hose is very short and flimsy/light and cheaply made. I had to buy a short garden hose to meet my needs.

So far so good! Has done a great job of lowering the relative humidity of my entire 2 BR apartment. The unit creates a little heat (as all dehumidifiers do) but that is offset by the amount of moisture it pulls from the air. A little loud on high but on the low setting, it is an noisy as you would expect it to be. Would recommend to others.Read Best Reviews of DeLonghi DD45 45 Pt. Energy Star Dehumidifier Here
My old dehumidifier used to have a feature where it would turn off / on depending on the rooms humidify. If the room got to a specified humidity level it would turn on until the humidity was taken care of and then it would turn off. This unit will keep on (on its high setting) until it reaches the designated humidify, but then it turns to its low setting and stays on continuously sucking in / blowing air.
I wish it was able to turn off or at least not run the fan constantly.
Other than that the unit works very well!

On the plus side, the DeLonghi dehumidifies as promised, is well built, not noisy, and heats the air as it should (in the thermodynamic cycle, hot air must exit, and warm air carries less moisture.) If you connect the supplied condensate hose to a drain, the holding tank is bypassed and stays dry, an important anti germ and fungus advantage. The air filter is easy to clean. On the negative side, the timer function turns the unit off if it was on, or on if it was off. But the cycle does not repeat. So, if you have it in a sleeping room or a nearby closet it would shut off if you programmed that when you started it, but it would not restart the next day. Or you'd have to turn it off manually. Every day. If you prefer less than 60% humidity, you need to set it daily as well.
I read the manual before purchasing, but manual is wrong about the DD45 returning to its previous state after a power outage. It does not restart, thus a programmable shut off timer is of no help. If you place the dehumidifier in an unsupervised location like a basement, you'd need to frequently verify that it was not stopped by a power outage while you were away. This is a real issue if no one is home an extended time or at a vacation home.
I wrote to DeLonghi Customer Service. The reply "If the unit is turned off the last selected mode would be stored in the unit. Though the setting would be saved the unit would need to be manually turned back on. Once the program is complete it would need to be reprogrammed."
