If you invest in a humidifier to start with, you have to accept the premise that you will need to regularly change the filter and that, just like with copier manufacturers and their ink cartridges, they are going to make a bundle off of the filters over time. That said, this product performs well -I've managed 6 weeks or so between filter changes and my humidifier runs 16 hours a day. Changing filter is a breeze (and when you do change it you'll see why you NEED to change them regularly ugh). I tried cleaning old cartridges with mild solution of bleach and found that is NOT satisfactory. Good product, if expensive, and I can recommend the Humidifier it fits too. No white dust!
