Paradigm System PSH T

Paradigm System PSH TThis item lasts longer than others I have tried, is easier to fill and doesn't leak. However I feel they were a little generous with the number of cigars it can humidify. I would half the number of cigars or double the devices.

UPDATED OCT 2010

I would still half the number of cigars HOWEVER, when I ordered a second one of these it actually came with instructions. I was filling this under a running faucet. WRONG. Soak in water for five minutes. They work great and mine last for a month. The humidor is in my finished basement.

I use it, it helps but isnt great. Can't hurt to use it, but not the greatest thing around.

Aprilaire Humidifier Maintenance Kit for 560 series

Aprilaire Humidifier Maintenance Kit for 560 seriesI had a heating and plumbing guy come in and take a look at my furnace. He recommended replacing just the humidifier pad, an quoted me $198 to do it. I thought I'd poke around and see how much one of these bad boys cost a la carte. Not very much, it turns out. I think I saw this for $10 or $20 all by itself, but then noticed this whole maintenance kit for about $40 after shipping. Aprilaire's official website had it for sale, too, but for a higher price. I compared the two items and it appears that this kit has the same stuff as the one sold on the Aprilaire site. Either way, when I got the humidifier pad, it came with Aprilaire branded packaging. The other items were more or less loose in the box, but they were all the right parts. As I was replacing the humidifier pad (a $200 job, per the heating guy), I could easily see where the other parts fit into the assembly. I used all the parts in the kit except one. It took me about an hour. The kit came with the same instruction booklet that you can find as a PDF online, which was very handy.

I'll probably buy more of these and do this once a year. Maybe not replace all the additional parts, but at least the pad.

After using my Aprilaire 560 humidifier for over 10 years, the feed tube became brittle and had leakage problem. Bought this maintenance kit from Filters-Now, replaced all the brittle plastic parts and feed tube on my humidifier, my humidifier gets a new life now and I expect it to run for another 10 years without problem. By using this maintenance kit, first, I don't have to buy a new humidifier. Second, it gives me a saving of at least $150 ($84 for a serviceman visit + parts replacement).

Product works well. Was concerned when I first received it as the manual did not list my series # but after inspecting the parts saw that it was the correct kit. Was easy to install, the manual ended up being useless.

Installed the kit in less than half an hour and it worked properly when turned on. Wish I had ordered this several years ago as I had left the humidifier off for several years because the old filter was too bad to work.

Bionaire Ultrasonic Humidifier BUL8000-UM

Bionaire Ultrasonic Humidifier BUL8000-UMI'll start off with the negative and then move on from there. I had the humidifier for about 4 months and then it broke. Wow, then...'why the 5 star review?' you may ask. Firstly, I'm not entirely sure it was the product's fault. There is a sleeve that you fill up with water, and my wife didn't necessarily set it in 'gently' one night. In any case, I contacted the company and wanted a replacement part and was even willing to pay for it. They asked for the serial number (and other things) and said it was out of warrenty (I threw away the receipt so I had no proof)... nevertheless, they said that they were going to replace it with a brand new unit. They sent me a new unit as well as a pre-paid return label to send back the old unit so that they can better develop the product and troubleshoot the issue. This is un-heard of service unless you are shopping at Williams and Sonoma. The new unit has worked fine ever since. The issue here is that, if you purchase this product and something does go awry, you are in good hands. The other benefit is that we purchased 2 other very expensive units from Germany, and although they're nice, they do not touch the ability to humidify the air like this unit does.

I have no problems with this product. It has a light dripping sound while it works but it sounds like water dripping after a heavy rain. I can't imagine a world where that would wake me up or bother me. Outside that it is super quiet.

It seems to be pumping out tons of water vapor.

Appearance wise, I think its the best option out there. Every other device I have seen is just ugly, and look like a humidifier.

The design keeps the it very low profile and I am not worried about my cats knocking it over.

It is really easy to fill.

I have not gotten to the point where I have to clean it yet.

The only thing I don't like is that it beeps pretty loud when you change the settings. If my wife is asleep while I am adjusting something, it can wake her up.

***********Review Update*******************

Humidifier stopped working after a month or two.

returned it to bed bath and beyond. Got an air-o-swiss.

We bought this humidifier two years ago and were extremely happy with it. It was quiet, efficient, and got the room to a comfortable humidity (around 40%). Also, extremely stylish. Loved the look. We specifically spent a little more, hoping to get a humidifier we wouldn't have to replace after one or two seasons (our last one, a Crane penguin-shaped humidifier, started leaking after 3 years).

HOWEVER, the maintenance on this humidifier is a total pain. Nowhere before buying does it detail what you're supposed to do. If we'd known, I would have gone for a less needy unit! To summarize:

Daily maintenance:

Turn off and unplug it. Remove the tank. Take the housing to the sink and drain it. Wipe it clean and dry it. Drain the tank and rinse it. Refill the tank, drag the whole mess back to its shelf and set it up again.

Weekly maintenance:

Do the daily maintenance. Before you refill and put it all away, fill the base with vinegar and the tank with a bleach solution and let both soak. Scrub the base with the way too small brush they provide. Rinse THOROUGHLY, then reassemble.

Seriously? First of all, they boast of a memory feature, so you don't have to reprogram your settings... unless you unplug it. Which you're supposed to do daily. Real helpful. Second, I stopped keeping fish because I didn't want to spend an hour a week wrist deep in water.

As if all that weren't enough, after performing the excruciating maintenance routine, and then carefully putting it away for the summer, halfway through this winter it started making a whining noise when first turned on. If I turn it off and on about 20-30 times, it eventually will make that quiet whisper. Which would be fine, except that the machine has a very loud high-pitched beep every time you turn it on and off. And you better like that beep, because when the machine runs empty (or, as mine has decided to do lately, DECIDE that it's empty when the tank is completely full and there's water in the base), it beeps TEN TIMES. And then the light flashes UNTIL YOU TURN IT OFF. So if it suddenly decides to no longer be friends with the tank at say, 4am, you need to drag yourself out of bed and turn it off unless you like a glowing flashy light all night.

I contacted support, and they told me that it's out of warranty, which means they can't do anything for me. They were extremely polite and extremely unhelpful. Consider this a very expensive disposable humidifier, with care and maintenance like a family pet.

Worked well for a while then started to make noise. It only got worse in time. We can only use it during the day.

I have had this humidifier for about 4 weeks. I clean it daily and change the water every day since I want it to last more than this season. I started having problems with it making LOUD noises after changing the water or after turning it off for a second and turning it back on 2 weeks ago. For this price, I expected that it would last longer than this. AVOID this product.

Hamilton Beach True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner

Hamilton Beach 04383 True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner, WhiteA brief video of the sounds of this air purifier at different speeds.

Overall, works well as many have stated. Hope this helps. Peace.

I bought this product for my son. He's eight years old and suffers from allergies. He woke up every morning sneezing, and with a stuffy nose. I was looking for an alternative to giving him allergy medication every day. We keep it on the desk, right next to his bed. It's incredibly quiet and it has helped his allergies a lot. After about a month of constant use on the medium setting, I vacuumed the filter. It was filty. I was very impressed with how much dust it pulled from the air.

Our daughter has allergies and we've tried several different air purifiers. This is by far the best we've tried. It is much quieter than others, compact size, the filter is permanent, and it works great. We are getting another one for another room.

I received my item (though late, Thanks Amazon), and apparently all my research into an air cleaner has paid off. This little guy does exactly what it says and works like a charm.

Here's why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat's litter box. Normally, it doesn't smell, but about the day it's time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I don't want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Anyway, this air cleaner is so quiet on Whisper Mode that I literally cannot hear it. I even put it in my roommate's bedroom, just to see if she realized it was in there, before moving it to its final destination. She had no clue.

The model has 3 speeds, but the Whisper Mode is fine for continuous daily use. Sure, you can turn it up, and you'll hear it's low whirrrrrr, but that's to be expected.

Another reason I bought it is that it IS a HEPA quality cleaner. But I don't have to buy replacement filters--ever. This one has a "permanent" filter, which I didn't even know existed. To clean it, it says about once every 6 months to just use your hose and brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner and suck it out. Really? That's awesome! Why don't ALL HEPA filters do this. That feels like such a waste. I'm not allergic to anything, but my purpose for this is to keep the area near my kitty box smelling like air, and not horrid ammonia. Cats are so gorgeous, but like newborn babies, they sure can produce some of the foulest smells!

So: I am in love with this baby. Thanks Hamilton Beach!

Wanted a small appliance like this air purifier to use in seperate bedrooms to stop dust/pollen/dander/dust mite poop or whatever debris lingers in the air from being inhaled during my loved ones sleep, this one works great and appears to really remove debris from the air. I am sure that higher priced air purifiers with expensive replacement filters work much better but we did not want to pay $$$ plus $$ for replacement filters three or four times a year.

On low the fan can barely be heard, medium is like a normal fan noise and is not bothersome at all (all of us stated we actually enjoy this white background noise), high would be too loud for most sleepers. Each of us that has one in their bedroom merely turns it on high an hour before bed, then turn it to medium for actual sleep time.

Can be layed on its side or stood straight up which is a nice choice to have based upon personal preference.

Filter is easy to remove and clean, just wish HB would have made the material surrounding the filter a bit more sturdy as it is just thin cardboard so you have to be careful not to damage it when cleaning. I use the brush attachment on my vacuum cleaner and it works great. I highly doubt this filter would be permanent like HB claims after many repeated cleanings so we expect to replace it every couple of years just for good measure!

Overall I gave it 5 stars but it surely would not compete with a much more expensive winix or austinaire, regardless, IMHO, it is an exceptional value for the price.

Edited to add: FYI, to dramatically enhance the effectiveness of this unit, go to a Lowe's or Home Depot type store and purchase a sheet (hammock filter) of the 3M filtrete filters (about $18 bucks, the good ones, the type used to put over window airconditioners to trap allergens/dust). Cut a square large enough to put above/over the permanent filter on this unit, the filtrete filter then takes most of the particles before it even hits this unit's permanent filter. I have done this for 4 months, it does not damage or negatively affect the unit's motor and you will be amazed how much stuff these little units take out of the air (with two filters, a filtrete one and the one that comes with the unit). Best part of all, after two months, merely discard the 3M homemade filter and replace it with a new cut-out. I also discovered that I can merely lightly tap the unit's permanent filter on a hard surface outside and it is ready to go for an other two months. I think you could get about 16-18 cut-outs per sheet at $18 per sheet, it is enough to last 32-36 months (approx 6 dollars a year).

Bionaire BWF100PDQ-UC2 Wick Filter for Models BCM5

Bionaire BWF100PDQ-UC2 Wick Filter for Models BCM5I know it is titled cool mist, but why does it have to bee blowing our cool air in the winter. Sigh. That is not really a product flaw. However, I have to refill it twice a day and it is very, very loud, especailly if you have it on the high setting. My husband prefers I turn it off when we are in the room, and then the humidity drops, fast. Our bedroom is 200 square feet and it humidifies it fine, but in any larger rooms it doesn't work. Also, don;t spend more that $39.99 on this. Some sellers are trying to rip you off. I got mine at Target.

I had read many reviews on this type of product since we needed a good easy to use gauge for our shop. This fits the bills perfectly. It was very easy to set up and the large numbers are easy to read even at a good distance away for older eyes. We use this for a shop floor so we dont need an outside read at all. I would recommend this product and I really dont see a downside or con to it.

La Crosse Technology WS-1913U-IT-SAL Wireless Professional Station with Wind, Dew Point, Temperature

La Crosse Technology WS-1913U-IT-SAL Wireless Professional Station with Wind, Dew Point, TemperatureThe Weather Station WS-1913TWC-IT-SAL from La Crosse Technology is an inexpensive home weather station that is fairly easy to get working. The issues start when you attempt to mount the console and the wind probe and temperature/sending unit. The directions are typical for products made in China: the print size is really small, too general or misleading or incomplete instructions, and the graphics are almost useless. Phone calls and emails to La Crosse Technology were answered, but only after repeated calls and complaints. The responses were erroneous and reflected little knowledge about the product beyond the printed instructions. When I asked for some better details on installing the probes they emailed me a link to their PDF manual the same one that I got in the box.

The biggest problem I had was the erroneous claim that the console could be hung on a wall. One of the La Crosse reps said it could be hung on a nail. Take a look at the slanted curved rear of the console and you can clearly see it CAN NOT BE HUNG UP. She insisted it was suppose to hang from the non-centered tiny hole in the back of the console, a reset hole I believe. The box and the user manual clearly state the console can be hung up. The La Crosse people finally acknowledged the unit can not be hung up. They claim " Unfortunately, the wall hanging option is not available on this model. The indication was a misprint which we apologize for." We specifically purchased this model because it could be wall mounted. Thus, we returned the unit and are looking for a different model from a different company.

If you are looking for an inexpensive weather station with a free standing console this model may be okay. Personally, I'm looking for a product with better customer and technical support, even if it costs me more.

This is a great device. You can't beat the price, the quality, the ease of installation. It's great. We love it, completely satisfied. The display unit does not mount to a wall. The exterior wind gauge needs to be precisely mounted to get correct wind direction and does, as we are finding out, prefer to be high on the peak of a roof rather than off the edge of a deck (our deck is about 20 ft above ground level)...in other words, the higher the better.

Overall, if you are a weather nerd and want a weather nut enthusiast grade weather station, this is the one for you. I would highly recommend this unit!

Cheers!

This station offered the features that you would want to be aware of before stepping outside. I found the wireless range to be sufficient to place the sensors well out from the house. My only gripe is that the wind rotors are rather flimsy and I am on my third set. La Crosse will not warranty the rotors and you have to buy them from a separate vendor.

Read Best Reviews of La Crosse Technology WS-1913U-IT-SAL Wireless Professional Station with Wind, Dew Point, Temperature Here

I have owned the unit not long enough to go through a set of batteries; yet the display dimmed to almost the point where it could not be seen. After contacting La Crosse I put in new batteries (tested for strength and yes they were fresh and full strength according to my Greenlee DM-20). Greenlee DM-20 Manual Ranging Digital Multimeter With Test Lead Now there is no readout on the display.

I went through the full procedure on how to first load the batteries on the sending units then the receiving unit more than once. Still no display.

La Crosse must be run over by customer problems if the responses are indicative of situation. I have used the email approach and have called neither time did I receive much in the way of real help. Yes the instructions are confusing and the unit does not report wind direction that is an error in the instructions and a lacking in the unit. I hope I can find my receipt not bought at Amazon but a big box store. I have had it not a year the warranty is for one year. I anticipate La Crosse will tell me tough luck. My response will be predictable.

If it worked then I would have been pleased certainly not top of the line but promised to report basic information. $90 is not cheap I'll explore for another unit, but there are not many makers of these devices; although there seem to be endless iterations of slightly different models.

Want La Crosse Technology WS-1913U-IT-SAL Wireless Professional Station with Wind, Dew Point, Temperature Discount?

The La Crosse weather center was very easy to set up. It comes with the hardware to attach the exterior wind gauge. However, the hardware is made for a very slender bar. I used an old bird feeder stand to mount the wind gauge. The description does not say anything about a cable that goes from the wind gauge to the exterior sensor. The sensor gets the best reception right outside the window where the inside unit is. Therefore, there is a long cable that is stretched across my yard to the wind sensor. Mounting on the roof of the house is the best suggestion I have. Don't know how accurate the wind gauge is. I also can't comment on the accuracy of the barometer. It does seem to change during storms.

Overall, a good product for minimal weather information. It's great for immediate temperature and winds.
