Xikar Large Cigar Humidor Solution Propylene Glycol 16 Ounces

Xikar Large Cigar Humidor Solution Propylene Glycol 16 OuncesLike other reviewers, I also ordered this believing I was purchasing a Xikar product. What I actually received was a bottle of "Stogie's Propylene Glycol 50/50" solution. I'm sure one PG 50/50 is about the same as another, but that's hardly the point. Advertising one product and sending out something completely different is unacceptable business practice.

One more note, the bottle was wrapped up in a plastic bag, and quite a bit of the product has leaked out in transit. Paid for 16 ounces, received maybe 14.

The post office had to place the package in a plastic bag because the lid on the bottle was loose spilling 25% of the liquid by the time it was delivered. The package was saturated. I left packaging feedback (with photos), seller feedback and feedback to Amazon around 3 weeks ago. I am still waiting for a response. I'm sure the product is everything it is supposed to be, but I sure didn't get my money's worth.

Just so everybody is aware, according to Xikar their solution is NOT a 50/50, it's their own formula as they say 50/50 is too viscous for many bead products. Is it true? Who knows... But if you believe that's true then none of the cheap generic 50/50s are going to fulfill your needs.

I originally purchased this because it had a picture of the Xikar bottle. When I received the order, it was actually "Stogie's". I talked with the vendor, who said that Amazon regularly has substitute items when looking for a specific brand. I have since found this to be the case. The seller was actually very nice and easy to get along with, and was more than happy to allow me to return the product. I decided to give it a shot.

I found the solution to be a very good one for a 50/50, but I purchase Xikar *because* it isn't 50/50. It is a slightly better blend which tends to leave less residue and which tends to not change each time you add it to the humidifier.

Now is where I reach what I am torn about. They have since fixed the picture issue, and the correct picture *and* description are now there. I think that the product is very good for what is being sold . . . but the item title is now even worse than the formerly-mistaken picture. It is now being advertised as Xikar (the title now reads "Xikar Large Cigar Humidor Solution Propylene Glycol 16 Ounces". The picture confusion from before is easily explained, but I have a bit of a hard time believing that Amazon forcefully changed the title after it was put in.

So in conclusion, I would give the product five stars for being a good product, and I took away 3 stars for it essentially being a bait-and-switch. If you clicked on the product and are aware of the fact it is not Xikar (and the misleading title doesn't bother you), then I would definitely encourage you to purchase it. Otherwise I would purchase somewhere else, like this one: Xikar Humidifier Solution 16 oz..

I probably should have read the other reviews before absent-mindedly purchasing this product at three AM. However, I did not, and they are correct. The product I received is not as pictured, and lacking the ability to test it for purity and content, I intend to send it back for a refund. Frankly, I just don't know if I can trust this label on the bottle of clear fluid that may or may not be "99.9% pure" and "made with 100% pure distilled water" (which is technically impossible).

Guys, at this price, just go to your nearest tobacconist, and buy the real deal. You won't save any money, but you run the stupid risk of destroying some cigars with this mystery fluid that looks like it came out of someone's garage, and the labels that were clearly printed on someone's inkjet.

Holmes HM630-U Cool Mist Tower Humidifier

Holmes HM630-U Cool Mist Tower HumidifierIn the past, I have been very disappointed with humidifiers. Either they leak or don't seem to do much of anything. However, this Holmes U Tower humidifier is sleek in design and has a few nice features such as:

The two filters are easily accessible at the base of the unit.

The tank is easy to handle, fill, and not too heavy to carry. If you have a small sink, you can always fill this slightly long tank in the bathtub or by using a teapot or water jug.

You have the option to set the humdifier manually on low, medium, or high humidity continuously or you can set it to automatically go on at low, medium, or high at a pre-set humidity level. If you use the automtic feature, then the unit cycles on and off like a thermostat would (although it does that too frequently for my taste).

In addition, the display shows the humidity of the room the unit is in, which is a nice feature.

The humidity level increases pretty fast, which is not typical of other units I've experienced.

According to the manual (I haven't tried this feature), you also have an hour timer option of setting the unit to turn on or off after so many hours. This means, for example, you can program it to turn off 5 hours later or turn on 5 hours later.

The unit has a small footprint (see cavaet below), so it doesn't take up much floor space.

With regard to the operation of the unit, you must remember to press and hold the on/off button to turn off the unit. If you unplug the unit, the humidifier returns to its factory default settings so you'll have to quickly reprogram it every time. This is exceptionally easy to do, but some might find this annoying.

One very nice feature that remains in operation when turning off the unit from the front panel but leaving it plugged in is that the humidity of the room is always displayed. Obviously, you lose this benefit when you unplug the humidifier from the wall outlet.

When setting the unit to the automatic feature that enables it to operate like a thermostat, the unit may cycle on and off every few seconds or minutes depending on the humidity of the room, which means you'll hear the fan cycle on and off repeatedly. If this is likely to disturb you while sleeping, then just put the unit into manual mode as I find you can never have too much humidity in the winter anyway. Of course, make sure you have enough water in the tank to run all night. The tank is rated to hold water for 36 hours of continuous use. However, I have only been able to get 10 hours continuous use on a tank at the highest humidity setting so keep this in mind when leaving the unit unattended.

I ordered the wick filters from the manufacturer because they are hard to find elsewhere; even though Wal Mart and other local stores carry the Holmes line, they don't necessarily sell all the filters for every model. The filters arrived promptly within a few days.

The box says the unit comes with a 5-year limited warranty but the pamphlet inside says a 3-year limited warranty. I called Holmes at 1-800-546-5637 and they confirmed it was actually a 3-year limited warranty, so don't be swayed by the box advertising.

There is one caveat that you might consider important, although this would not deter me from buying the unit. Since this unit is a tower model, it is easier to knock over (especially on an unsturdy surface such as carpet). You might want to take this into consideration in case you have young kids that run around or large pets that might wreck havoc in your house--meaning you may have to alter the placement of the unit to account for this scenario. My observation is that the chances of knocking this unit over are somewhat higher than the squat-to-the-floor models I'm so use to and which have been so ineffective.

Overall, I am very impressed with the unit compared to the four other humidifiers I've had previously. I had a Vicks humidifier, a different Holmes humidifier, a Hunter humidifier, and another one whose name I can't remember. I've always been less than satisfied, so this is a nice change. I've been so pleased with this unit that over six months later, I ordered a second one.

Update October 2010 Finally one of my unit's humidity sensors failed. However, since I've had this unit for several years that is to be expected. I can still use the unit to increase the humidity in the room but I just won't know what the humidity level is unless I look at my second humidifier.

Pros:

displays humidity all the time

variable speed settings. 3 manual and 3 auto speed.

tower design does not take up too much space.

easy to add water and change filter.

Cons:

due to the size (length) of the tank, you do need a deep sink to add water. I use the bath tub.

the fan is loud even at lowest setting.

uses two filters.

Love the unit itself, however after 3 days of running it only 8 hours a night, I noticed the filter guage was saying "Replace Filter"

So I called the company to say, "hey .. it's only been 3 days. I think the filter guage is broken" and they had me check the filter (it was yellow and crusty) and they said, "no .. it's your water. you need to replace your filter or use distilled water." Then she laughed and said they had customers that replace their filters several times a week because of their water

So of course I'm not going to replace my filter every 3 days and I'm not going to use a couple gallons of distilled water every night before I go to bed in this thing ...

so if you have hard water .. this may not be the unit for you. Buyer Beware.

This product seemed to have been designed by someone who had never used a humidifier before. The water tank is nearly impossible to fill; there's nothing to hold on to once the tank is upside down, and the opposite end is sloped so you can't rest it against the bottom of your bathtub while it fills. Once it's full, a juggling act is required in order to screw on the tank lid, since you can't set the tank down anywhere. After trying twice and only succeeding in spilling water all over myself and the bathroom, I left this task for my husband to take care of, as he has very large hands and was able to fill the tank more easily, although he too complained that the tank was so poorly designed.

The tank capacity is too small; to keep my bedroom at a good humidity level, we have to refill the tank twice a day. Still, the thing did what it was meant to do--humidified the room--until after three weeks the full tank leaked all over the wood floor and area rug. We thought the top must not have been screwed on correctly, but it happened again, warping the wood floor. Leaving the full tank in the bathtub, it didn't leak at all, which made us think that something had gone wrong with the base.

I didn't waste my time trying to get this thing fixed. I returned it.

Honeywell HC22A 1007 Humidifier Pad, 2PK

Honeywell HC22A 1007 Humidifier Pad, 2PKI received a damaged pad in the mail. I would've just used the pad if it fit in the frame, but it unfortunatley didn't. I sent an email to the sellers saying that it unfortunately came in damaged and attached pictures to illustrate what happened. The sellers promptly sent me a new pad and the process was really hassle free and painless. The sellers were great!

Eureka DCF-3 Dirt Cup Vacuum Filter 5700/5800

Eureka DCF-3 Dirt Cup Vacuum Filter 5700/5800We bought the puppy dog humidifier and love it. I use it nightly in the Louisiana heat. My son sleeps better with it. It's great for the winter too bc the heater dries out the air. We haven't had a cold that lasted more than a few days (one and only one cold yay) and I think the humidifier helped. Will buy this brand again.

Holmes HWF100-UC2 Humidifier Filter, 2 Pack

Holmes HWF100-UC2 Humidifier Filter, 2 PackThis filter fits a Holmes humidifier that is no longer made. The device still works perfectly, but finding these filters is increasingly difficult. Yep. I'm a fan.

These filters came within a few days. I'd shopped around and these were some of the most reasonably priced I found. They work fine as far as I can tell and my humidifier is making life during the dry Nebraska winter much better.

While the item shown and the description says it is a Holmes filter, what was shipped was a clone filter. It can work only if you pull the mounting clip of an old filter. While I suspect the filter will work, the vendor was certainly misleading in their description.

These wicks for my humidifier worked well, although it was annoying to replace tham every month. The humidifier broke, so I don't need these any longer.

I bought a used humidifier, in rough shape at that, cleaned it up and replaced the filters and voila! The filters were exactly the right replacements I needed.

Graco Humidifier Replacement filter for 1.5 Gallon

Graco Humidifier Replacement filter for 1.5 GallonI purchased this filter for my Graco home humidifier. I regularly performed operational maintenance on my humidifier, including washing the filter. Despite the maintenance the filter slowly became discolored from the natural pollutants and minerals contained in my water. This Graco Filter helped solve my problem.

I carefully care for the filter. To avoid frequently replacing the filter, I use a procedure that can extend the life of the filter. When the filter forms a crust, I soak it for awhile in vinegar water (usually 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water). After soaking I carefully rinse the filter several times in fresh water.

The Graco humidifier that I use is an evaporation style machine. To work properly, the "filter" must be free of pollutants, as the machine adds moisture to the air by having a fan blow air through the sponge type filter (exactly like the "swamp coolers" so popular in arid climates). Clogs decrease effectiveness and add pollutants to the air in the room being used. Accordingly, in addition to carefully maintaining the filter, I add KAZ Humidifier Bacteriostatic Treatment to the reservoir to prevent the growth of bacterial agents. (KAZ Humidifier Bacteriostatic Treatment

When properly maintained, the Graco Humidifier Replacement filter is an excellent product. I recommend this filter for evaporation humidifiers.

Not a huge fan of this humidifier and filter. It gets mildewy so fast and is expensive to replace regularly. It is also only available online. When we bought the humidifier it was carried at BRUS but not anymore. Overall, it works 100% fine and does it's job. I should've just gotten one of those ones with a built-in filter.

I wish this filter was permanent. My last one got mildewy and shredded up when I went to wash it. Kind of a hassle to always have to buy refills.

These were great replacement filters for the Graco humidifier I have for my daughter. I would definitely order them again.

It performs as the packaging claims it will. I just wish that they could find a way to make the material last a little longer, it stiffens pretty quickly even with reverse osmosis filtered water and rotating every refill. The price is reasonable.

SPT Warm-Mist Humidifier with Fragrance Oil Diffuser

SPT Warm-Mist Humidifier with Fragrance Oil DiffuserI feel the need to review this product since it only had one when I ordered it..

I got this unit used (like new) at a very good price. For the price I paid, I'd say it's an excellent buy. I've never owned a humidifier before, but I'm a picky consumer and it simply works well. At the full 'new' price, though, it may not be the best bang for your buck.

I was most concerned about noise and leakage. This unit does make some soft noise.. the bubbling noise. Fortunately, the noise it makes blends into the background nicely so it is unlikely to disturb your sleep. It's quite a pleasant sound, actually, like a light rainfall. I also haven't seen any leakage yet.

Like the other reviewer said, the power light is pretty bright, so you might want to tape over it or something. The 2-hr timer is really useful when you don't want it running til it goes dry. The auto-shutoff seems to work properly -it turns off and an indicator light goes on when the tank is low. Note that this unit only has one power level.. you can't adjust the vapor output.

It has an attractive appearance.. minimalistic and unassuming. The only thing that bothers me is that it's pretty much 100% plastic, but that's probably the case with most small humidifiers. I do smell something which I assume is the plastic.. though I'm hoping the scent will diminish with use.

It's a nice, small-footprint humidifier. I've never used the diffuser (which is just a tiny cup in the "grill"--nothing special), but it works fine as a basic humidifier. It's very easy to clean, and difficult to tip over accidentally. There are just two drawbacks: it sounds like those $15 "boiler" humidifiers that you can pick up at a drugstore, and you have to refill it twice a day if you're running it 24-7. The blue light is a bit bright, but you turn it to the wall and problem solved. It's a good little unit.

I wanted something to use at night and I needed it to have a timer. After using this humidifier I have to say it is very nice. It is very easy to refill, easy to clean and it just works good. I like the sound it makes boiling the water and it helps me fall sleep. I use the diffuser and add some oil in the cup which works very well. Over all this is a great machine and works the way it should.

This produces a nice warm mist. It's very quiet and easy to fill/operate. The only thing I'd improve is to have a cool water setting as for the winter this is great but it does warm the room and is too much for the summer. We have a separate humidifier for the winter (which by comparison is much louder and heavier and harder to keep clean). For a cool weather humidifier, 5 stars.

This is a decent humidifier for the money.

Pros: The tank holds enough water to get through the night. Low water indicator and water level window are nice features. The tank is about impossible to spill while filling and replacing. My wife likes the diffuser. The timer feature is nice, though I do not use it often.

Cons: The blue light illuminating the power switch is a bit annoying though. It's very bright and not cool when you are trying to sleep. I turned it to face the wall.
