Is there anywhere to buy the old filters without the blue wrapping.

I have used Honeywell Humidifiers for many years and never had the smell / mold problem you do with these filters, they are downright unhealthy.

I tried to rate these zero stars they are that bad but the system would not let me.

Please go back to the old filters

Bought a bunch of these replacement filters (10, I believe) for my Honeywell 2000 series humidifier.

This "enviracaire" blue wrapping was a new thing for me. HONEYWELL/ENVIRACAIRE HAC-504 Replacement Filter Pad Never seen it before, but figured what the heck, maybe it's new technology & will improve the filter's capability.

WRONG!!

My experience has been just the opposite. 1) It doesn't last as long, working only 2-4 weeks before it's efficacy diminishes, whereas the 'older' filters with the plastic/wire mesh would easily last 3-4 months, sometimes longer depending on use. 2) Using the old filters, I would often take them out after some heavy use, clean them, and descale them before continuing to use them. Only after months of use & hard build-up would they lose their efffectiveness & need to be changed. With these "enviracaire" filters the build up isn't heavy at all, it maybe something else (see #5 below), they just lose their effectiveness very quickly.

3) I've been using humidifiers for nearly 9 years. I have a wine cellar & walk-in humidor, and for those of you who partake in those hobbies, you know how important it is to maintain proper storage conditions. So you might say that, yes, I do have experience in the use of humidifiers and environmental control. 4) I bought my last batch of (these) replacement filters from KAZ. When I began using the filters & encountering problems I contacted kaz to complain. Well, the customer service person who contacted me proceeded to tell me how it must be MY HUMIDIFIER that's not working properly as the filters work fine in hers! RIGHT!!!!! Does she use hers as extensively as I use mine?! I've been using the current humidifier(s) for three years with no prior problems to this!!!

5) Now here's the worse part, IMO. WHAT'S WITH THE FILMY/MOLDY STUFF THAT BUILDS UP?! When I began using these "enviracaire" filters, I began seeing a filmy, moldy build up in my humidifier's water system. Even after I thoroughly clean the filter housing & install a new filter, at about the 2-4 week mark (when the filter's efficacy starts to diminidsh), the unit gets this filmy/moldy build-up in the filter housing compartment and in the water (but it doesn't get into the tank). Whether I use a few drops of a bacteriostatic or descaling in the water tank or not doesn't make a difference. Never seen that before, never seen it with the older filter types!! This filmy stuff may be the reason for the decreased function of the filetr, at least that's what I suspect.

So! Should you buy this filer?

You decide. Personally, I think that the manufacturer needs to know about these problems and take care of them.

As for me, I'm trying desperately to find the older style filters that had a wire-like/plastic outer mesh. Honeywell HAC504 Replacement Humidifier Filter They seemed to work just fine!!

I've noticed a bad smell when I use these filters after only a few days use. The old ones without the blue air purifier didn't smell like this. I will not use these again even if I have to buy a new humidifier when I can't find the old HAC-504 filters.

This replacement filter suddenly began to emit a really foul odor. I soaked it for ten minutes as per the instructions but when I put it back in, the odor came back and my eyes started to burn. I realized I had to throw the thing out, which means I have no humidifier while the air is now very humid. Meanwhile I had to open the windows, with the temperature about 10 degrees outside, to get rid of the pungent odor and the sensation in my eyes still not gone, several hours later. They need to re-do this filter, it is a Zero.

I guess going for a low priced travel humidor is risky, as you can tell this is cheaply made. The clasp doesn't hold it close, therfore the "travel" aspect of it does not work well.

Product has nice appearance. The wood inside has a nice feel. Holds about 10 robusto size smokes. But this unit does not hold humidity very well. Assume you will need to recharge fluids about every 34 days.

I know this is a lot of money, BUT. . .I tried water from this machine at a girlfriend's health product store in Newark Delaware recently. The taste was soooo different. You use bottled water. Pour the water into the machine, set the number you want it on, then run it thru the machine. You see this little tornado like in the picture and it breaks up the water molecules and does all this scientific stuff to the water to make it easier for your body to absorb. It also adds minerals to the water based on the filter that comes with the machine. I have not gotten to all the nitty gritty yet, but I understand the filter is to be replaced once a year and costs about $85. You are supposed to work your way up in the intensity of the water from 9 to 27. I am only at 11 right now and the water tastes so fresh and clean and makes you feel really good when you drink it (energy good). Can't wait till I get up to 27. My friend said that you can make your water about 2 weeks ahead if you want to, more if you refrigerate it. Once you try it, you might not ever want regular water again. There are supposed to be a lot of health benefits to this water, too. You can easily make yourself up some and take it to work or in the car or give it to a friend to try.

My first impression of this water was such a crisp invigorating taste. It reminded me of water I experienced directly from the upper part of the Athabasca Glacier in Alberta (Western) Canada. It tasted so healthy and so pure.

I will be back when I get to 27 to give you an update.

Update Nov 25, 2008-I am up to 20, and still loving it. It has such a clean, satisfying taste. I usually brew up a bunch of bottles while I am in the kitchen getting ready for work.

Update Dec 12, 2008-I am up to 27, and still loving it. I have made some water up for several friends and they love it too. Most people can really taste the difference and seem to feel much more energized while and after drinking it. It seems to be a piece of the health puzzle. You can do some google searches on hexagonal water to find out more about clustering within the water and see some pictures of before and after water molecules.

Guys, I respect your professions. I read the pros and the cons( your reviews). I bought one just to see for myself. I have no idea if it is creating "hexagonal water" , but it does something that has a positive impact on the body. I can honestly say, I can feel a difference. I have juiced off and on for years, eat several different natural antioxidants on a regular basis and this product does have a positive effect on the body or at least my body.

I'm not slamming you for not believing in the product, just sharing my experience.

I am an environmental engineer with a masters degree and several years industry experience specializing in drinking water treatment.

Based on my professional experience I can definitively state that this product is absolutely nonsense. The description is riddled with pseudo scientific language completely devoid of meaning.

To address specific claims:

1)In a liquid, atoms do not form a crystalline lattice, nor do they show any other form of long-range order. This is one of the fundamental properties of a liquid. Hexagonal water is ice. There is no form of hexagonal water that is not ice. Furthermore no magnetic or infrared forces generated from a counter-top device could have any effect on the molecular structure of water. Nor would you want them to. Water is good and healthy the way it is.

2) The oxygen content of water varies from 0-~10 mg/L based mostly on microbial activity and exposure to air. This matters a great to fish and microbes who "breath" the water and not at all to mammals who drink it. Increasing the oxygen content might in some small way increase microbial growth, but mostly it will not matter at all.

3) Minerals might be added to your water. Theoretically this could be beneficial although, again, it will mostly not matter. Most alarmingly is the claim that the mineral cube lasts 4000 minutes. Most of the minerals you want added to water are extraordinarily insoluble. They are literally rocks, which do not dissolve quickly. Either these mineral cubes provided are microscopically small or they are not the minerals that belong in drinking water.

4) Unless you subscribe to some quasi religious view of energy then adding energy to water does not translate into you feeling energized. In this application adding energy pretty much means adding heat. If you want warm water then use a microwave or stove-top.

In summary, do not buy this product. Also learn science or, at a minimum, give a scientist a hug. We pretty much keep this world running.
