Despite all the negative reviews of this unit on Amazon.com, I found several other positive reviews elsewhere on the internet, and so I decided to give it a try. I'll admit I was skeptical as to how this unit would perform, especially since it seemed to be much less expensive than other 12,000 BTU units AND it included heat pump functionality. That being said, I am quite pleased with its performance so far.

After the terrible process of having to return a damaged portable AC unit of another brand just a week earlier, I was relieved to see when this one arrived at my door in rather robust packaging. Lifting it out of its "easy open" outer box and inner cardboard crate, I was able to observe its features in person for the first time. The multi-color display is a nice touch; the bright VFD display provides simple animations of the unit's current function, as well as a basic clock (used for setting the on/off timer), and the current temperature setting. The remote control sits in a holster on the back of the unit. I found the remote to be a bit bland, with all the buttons but the power button the same size and no distinction of the most frequently used buttons (i.e. temperature, mode) from the less frequently used extras (i.e. sleep mode, Celsius/Fahrenheit setting). The use of the remote is limited anyways since the display on the unit sits facing upward, preventing you from seeing what you are doing unless you are hovering above it.

Installation is pretty straightforward. The user's manual includes several photographs of the installation process, which doesn't differ much from any single-hose portable AC on the market. You simply screw the hose into the adapters and attach the adapters onto the back of the unit and onto the adjustable panel which you close in your window.

So now the important part: how it works. I found the unit to perform quite well. The AC function is plenty cool, and with three fan settings, you can adjust the level of output (and noise) to the current conditions. The heat pump also works well, and I was impressed with the fact that the unit waits to start blowing air into the room until the heat pump has begun generating warm air. That way, on a cold winter's day you won't get a rush of cold air in your face while the unit starts up. After your set temperature is reached, the unit shuts down completely (including the fan). Perhaps handy for some people is an auto mode which automatically heats if the temperature is below 68°F, dehumidifies if the temperature is between 68°F and 80°F, and cools if over 80°F. There also is an oscillation feature which helps circulate the air into the room.

As others have said, this AC unit is not super quiet. While in fan-only mode, the noise is minimal, but while heating, cooling, or dehumidifying, the exhaust fan in the back of the unit adds a considerable amount more. While nobody will be fooled into thinking a jet is landing, some may find it difficult to sleep with the unit in the room if it is doing anything but circulating air.

Just another quick note about draining the water bucket... be prepared to empty it no less often than most air conditioning units, regardless of what the manufacturer claims it can evaporate through the hose. I also agree with others who have said that the drainage plug is really close to the ground, so you may want to place it on a hard surface or elevate it slightly to assist in the drainage process. You do get a short hose and drip pan in the box to help you empty the moisture into a larger pan, but you may want to keep a towel handy as well.

Overall, this air conditioner/heat pump unit is a economical choice if you need all-season comfort in an area of your home. Various room-size estimations abound, some even rating this unit up to 500 sq. ft. My suggestion is that you use this unit for no more than a single large room, as you will probably see much worse performance if you try to heat or cool an entire floor with it. But for supplemental heating or cooling, you really cannot go wrong with the Soleus Air PH3-12R-03.

I had this AC unit for less than 1 months and it now SCREAMS! due to a bad pump. The manufacturer said they would "look at it" but I had to pay the shipping cost to ship to them in CA. Not worth the cost of the shipping, Total waste of money. NEVER buy from Soleus! Crap manufacturing, cheap plastic parts. poor warranty service. $400 just thrown away for something that only work for 2 months at best! I'd give zero stars if I could! DO NOT BUY, you have been warned!!!!!!

I just bought this 3 weeks ago. After numerous window units I thought I would try a portable unit so I could direct the air where I wanted it. First of all this unit was difficult to install. The directions were terrible. I have had a lot less problem with my previous window units. 12,000 BTU's should cool my entire living/dining room. It works okay if you are directly in front of it, but 8-10 feet away just so so. It is as loud as any window unit I have had. It does not cool down to lowest temp so compressor is always on. After running it quite a bit for three days I just had to drain the condensation holding tank which was an experience in and of itself! The plug is on the bottom about a half inch from the floor. It is below the hose so you have to remove that. When you remove the cap, there is no type of plug, so the water immediately begins pouring into the pitiful plastic drainage tray that is provided that holds about 1/2 cup at the most. With a 1.5 liter tank to drain you need to also have a bucket or a bowl and plenty of towels as I found it impossible to stop the flow trying to empty the tray of water into the bucket. Long story short, don't waste your money. Way to expensive for the hassle. I'm going to go have a beer and make up with my dogs who are quivering outside after hearing my yelling of obscenities during the drainage process.

Got this unit today and for some reason the unit itself was covered in grease, something like a motor oil.

Anyway, set it up and powered on, after 2 hr running, the unit was blow AIR only even on COLD mode.

Called Amazon to get unit return and they told me I will have to pay $60 $80 return shipping charge for defective unit.

I will never buy and electric unit from Amazon again. I never have any problem to get full refund from other online retailer.

We purchased this product in February, hoping to use it as a heater in the winter and AC for the summer. However, the heat could never come on even when the temperature was set at 80 degree. We contacted the dealer and the manufacture for technical support, it simply would not work. The manufacture agreed to take this unit back and sent us another one. But the new one they sent us had the same problem. We experienced lengthy email, phone conversations back and forth, they just could not make their "heater" to generate any heat. They promised to send us another one, but we decided to return this product. The end story is that we were charged for both way shipping twice for the two defective products. Thus, I strongly suggest stay away from this product, also stay away from this dealer and this manufacture!!!

I have written knowledge that they shipped and sold me a BROKEN humidor. The bottom was clearly busted and when I asked for a replacement I was informed that it was still in workable condition. My humidor came with a chipped corner on the lid and they replaced it with particleboard (cardboard), and then when I left a bad review because they are responsible for their product, they got mad at me--saying about returning, but unfortunately I didn't "have the time" to deal with that, just like they didn't "have the time" to check their product.

After they emailed me BEGGING Me to remove their bad rating, I did, because I didn't want to deal with them anymore. Then they stopped emailing me when I had further questions, because they got what they wanted. So I'm leaving this review here

Other than that, great value, and for the price I shouldn't complain because its keeping my cigars nice and fresh

This is a very nice looking humidor, much better than what the pictures show. Inside is very roomy, and it comes with a good instruction booklet.

Problem is, it doesn't work that well. The included humidifier didn't seem to maintain consistency, and my cigars were drying out fast. I bought a DryMistat humidifier, and it worked much better, but I think the seal isn't tight, as the humidity fluctuates a good deal.

Good for smokers who only keep a few cigars on hand, and don't mind them drying out, but you may want to look at an alternative if you really want to keep cigars for a long time.

this product provides great storage and also looks great.. its not hard to set up, and keeps humidity levels at a variable 60-80%. I DO RECOMMEND!!!!

The humidor itself is nice. It does hold humidity fairly well. I did have to make a few adjustments, such as tightening screws and hinges. The included hygrometer on MY humidor is strictly for looks, and mine wasn't adjustable. I am not sure if my hygrometer was a dud or if all of them are like this. There were instructions with the humidor on how to adjust the hygrometer so i assume it was meant to adjust. I did the salt test and the needle didn't budge, it stayed at a steady 40%. At my local smoke shops walk in (Humidor) didn't budge either.

The glass top is great and the main reason i bought this particular humidor. It was affordable and looks great on my shelf. The hygrometer and lock on the front give it an expensive look and most importantly my cigars smoke perfectly.

UpdateAfter owning this humidor for a little over a month the wood has swelled around the screws causing the lid to break. I had issues with the screws before i even seasoned the humidor and seasoning it finally did it in. It did keep my cigars in great shape and did look good, it's unfortunate that this has broken.

The cool mist humidifier has two levels of output and the aroma oil compartment works well. I make sure the cap is off when not in use or I turn it off and empty the water compartment when done. The only complaint I have is cleaning the water compartment: I follow the instructions but black spots have appeared inside at the bottom of the water compartment and they do not come out following the instructions; it is very difficult to clean no matter how inventive you get with brushes. Otherwise this is a great product.

Update: I did not have any further problems with black spots wonder if somehow the original purchase may have been a return that had been used and not completely dried out. Anyway, I purchased another one, so now have two and have absolutely no problems with either since the initial cleaning of the first one. Oh, btw, baking soda is a great way to clean mold and does not have the effects of bleach.

Even though I didn't buy this product from amazon, I wanted to write a review because I was so impressed with this product.

I rinsed it, put 3 drops of lavender oil that came with it in the sponge compartment, filled it & plugged it in.

Instantly my room felt like a spa. Calming lavender aroma with soothing lights that change color & a nice mist. U can use it only as a humidifier, night light, or both. I have owned 4 other humidifiers & this is by far my fave. I did a lot of research before I ordered it & highly recommend. It's also attractive and compact. Fits anywhere. if u are a natural, "green" person like me & like fragrances but not all the chemicals that come with them, & like to use a humidifier, then this machine is for you! Works really well, I recommend it for night-use only since the tank only lasts about 9-10 hours in high setting, 11-12 hours in low. It is powerful that it quickly raises humidity in an average 12ftx12ft room to 50% rH in about 2-3 hours. The cleaning routine is a lot easier, about once every 2-3 weeks if you let the unit dry out upside down on a towel after use each morning. Otherwise, if you keep it loaded with water you need the regular cleaning routine with vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide once a week. Yes, cleaning is not easy, but I have yet to find a unit as nice that is also easy to clean. You will not get white dust and make cleaning a lot easier if you do not use regular tap water. I have used this water treatment with good results BestAir 3US-6 Ultratreat Ultrasonic/Vaporizer Water Treatment 32 oz. . For even easier cleaning use RO or distilled water.

Out of the box, the humidifier was what I expected. I admit that I should have done more research other than reading the reviews on Amazon, but I have had good luck trusting the reviews when purchasing other items. The unit worked fine for 7 nights until last night when it would not turn on. Despite trying a different electrical outlet, removing the water tank and replacing it, etc., it has never worked again. I followed the instructions and emptied/dried the unit daily didn't matter. I am going to contact customer service at Tribest and will update this review.
