SPT Evaporative Air Cooler with Rotating Louver, SF-616

SPT Evaporative Air Cooler with Rotating Louver, SF-616I purchased this evaporative cooler to take the edge off of my child's play room. We have a couple other evaporative coolers in the house that work well for larger areas, but wanted something smaller and that used less electrical power for that application. I bought based on price, the 65 watt usage and the louvers. It arrived in good condition and completely assembled. Entirely plastic, but seems well made. Smaller than expected. Likes: the controls work well, nice to have the water level window, does what it should (cools a small room as can be expected from an evaporative cooler). Dislikes: feeding water is time consuming due to small intake hole, louvers dont really do much it rotates and could be a nice feature, but I think the pitch is too low or non existant, so the air mostly goes straight.

Update 1.17.03:

Stopped using when it started to leak. Still works if you put a cookie pan underneath, but I recovered my previous portable AC unit (cooling fins needed cleaning, covered in lint/dust causing it to shut down) and switched back to the AC unit.

This swamp cooler does a reasonable job in a small room. I agree with the comment that it is a pain to fill, but most portable swamp coolers I've ever owned are difficult in that way. It would be better if it were easier to disassemble to clean.

I ordered two of these units. Both are fully operational, however the ionizer LED does not operate on one of them. However, it's not worth returning it for that. The owner's manual leaves much to be desired. There are options on the control panel that are not explained, such as "sleep" and "natural" modes. When engaged, they seem to somewhat randomize the operation speed and temporarily shut down the unit for a few seconds, which I find extremely distracting.

These were shipped under Amazon Prime, which promises two day delivery. However, it took four days for these to be delivered.

Update: in the middle of the second season of use, one of the units started leaking badly. I won't be buying another from this manufacturer.

Update 2: Exactly one year later, the other unit started leaking like a sieve.

I only give it one star as I can't give it zero.

I am a college student in a dorm that has no air conditioning. I bought this and It was delivered aprox. 2 hours ago. I am so glad that I got it! Since I'm not so experienced with it, I've only mastered the air cooling feature. So for that, I will give a review: It is absolutely wonderful. Since we are not able to have our own air conditioning units, this suffices! I love the large fan with the rotating louver. When you are sitting in one place you feel the cool air circulate around you! Adding ice makes the air extra chilly. I cannot believe there are no other reviews for this product! I am in love with it!

We bought this cooler to help with the heat on our screened in porch. It works well and allows us to stay on the porch on even the very hot days.

If you are looking for an alternative to a high-power fan, this is not the item to order. Although it does push cold air, it's just not enough to cool a bedroom. It doesn't have enough power behind it. Also, if you use the water feature and plan to sleep in, the water feature doesn't last that long. You would have to wake up, refill, then go back to bed. Not intended for any teenager.

SU-2081B: Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier with Hygrostat Sensor

SU-2081B: Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier with Hygrostat SensorI purchased this item to help aid a vaporless humidifier. Our home is extremely dry during winter, registering at only 18% humidity.

Within an hour of plugging in the SU-2081B, humidity levels jumped to 44% in our 300 sq ft master bedroom. I soon found that I no longer needed the first vaporless humidifier, and found the SU-2081B worked wonders all on its own.

Be aware, this DOES emit a cloud of vapor, but it dissapates quickly and over the last two months has created no moisture or mold issues at all. It even has a built in register that allows you to set the level of humidity you prefer. We set ours at 35%, and the machine turns itself on and off to maintain that level.

It also has an Ionizer and a nightlight, neither of which we've used, but it's nice to know they are available.

The best part is the swivel nozel that allows up and down direction of the mist as well as a 360 degree rotation.

For a 300 sqft room, I need to refill the container once a day. Really easy to use and we could not be happier.

I am not sure if my place is just EXTREMELY dry but the humidity level hardly moves! I have it running almost 24/7 and can't really tell much of a difference. However I do like the light!

Hunter 31206 Ultrasonic UV Medium/Large Room Humidifier

Hunter 31206 Ultrasonic UV Medium/Large Room HumidifierI bought this unit because it gets really dry downstairs especially with the fireplace being on. I can already tell a difference in the air. I noticed the poor reviews given with the UVC light and also read in the manual that if on it indicated that it needed replacing. So, upon calling Hunter, the CSR explained that the blue light indicated that the machine was on and working and that the light would turn red when the UVC light needed replacing. That being said, the machine is indeed working properly, it is very quite, and IMO gives out pretty good humidity at the mid-way mark.

The only cons that I would make mention is the really BRIGHT blue light as I had to cut a piece of cardboard and tape over it to tone it down a notch. Also, the replacement of the demineraliztion filters on a monthly basis.

Thanks for reading and I hope this helped.

-S

Used it every night for a week since it arrived. Visible stream of mist straight up into the air, but nothing around it gets wet or moist. Have right near the bed and feel no mist whatsoever. Just better breathing and less dry throat. Water tank lasts far more than eight hours. Have yet to get to the automatic turn-off when the tank gets empty. Sleep a full night with higher humidity from a cool stream of vapor. Nothing leaks. No big drops anywhere. Little need for a towel underneath it, but aftr reading all of the horrendouse reviews about other models, I did not want to take a chance. Getting very comfortable about its safety. Also uses tap water and no signs of chemical build-up. Would recommend spending a little more to get quality like this. Absolutely silent. I like a little white noise in the room, but this is so quiet, if you like white noise, you almost have to run an air purifier in the same room. The only thing is the extra bright blue LED on the front indicating that the humidifier is working. Wow! Lights up the whole room. Easily remedied though by taping a small piece of cardboard to hang over the light. I don't know how it works, but it sure does work well. Watch the video from QVC on YouTube. It looks just like that when operating, and practically right out of the box. And the product is solidly made and the tank holds more than a gallon. I would trust running this in my baby granddaughter's room when she gets stuffy. This product is as good, if not better, than advertised.

I received one as a gift about a month ago after talking to my doctor about being prone to dry skin (winter, NE weather), sore throats and overall sinus issues due to allergens in the house ( its an old house).

It is awesome, its sooooo silent and easy to maintain. it comes with a 3 yr warranty. Mine is the 31207 which is the model in Black. It also came with a vapor pad that you can add, which I did this week since I have some sort of cold/flu/virus right now... which works great in my small bedroom as the odor is not over powering.

Without the vapor pad it works well too, it neutralizes odors in the room, and its so silent. I was worried that after a week it would get noisy, but no. Amazing, best gift everrrr.

I logged on to the Hunter website to order my replacement vapor pads and also some other ones and the price for parts ( wear and tear exchanges of course not malfunction) are fairly decent.

****UPDATE 1/29/12**** turns out the vapor pads are discontinued for this humidifier, but no worries, you can use VICKS vapor refill pads Model vsp-19 ( avg $5.99 or so for a box of 5 ) which you can find at any pharmacy :)

Love it, if you have sensitive sinuses, this is item is for you. YOu can use it any time and again its so easy to clean and the parts you hardly replace. [they do recommend the filter 1/month] Im going into 2 months of ownership yet, using it every night and weekends --I think replacement every 2 should suffice :)

Works, no troubles. Have put about 10 gallons of distilled h2o through it over the past few months and have had no problems. The bottom of the top piece does make contact w/ the water in the bottom piece, so stuff gets wet when you need to refill, which there is really no excuse for. And as far as the led is concerned, some electric tape over it solves the problem of it being a second sun.

I read many of the positive and negative reviews on a variety of humidifiers and air cleaners, and if they are all to be believed, every product out there is garbage, and yet at the same time, way better than that other one. It became nearly impossible to find a product that didn't have a scathingly negative review, but I ultimately decided to pull the trigger on this unit, as even if it really was junk, I'd only be out $50 instead of potentially $200 (Air-o-Swiss). Ultimately I am very happy with this unit, and find that most, if not all the negative comments here are either incorrect, expecting waaaay too much from the unit, or are overly critical of ridiculous nuances, and therefore likely to be disingenuous.

Noise: One of the negative reviews I saw stated that this unit was too noisy to have in the same room as them when they slept. I find this absolutely ludicrous as this is one of the quietest humidifiers I have owned (a variety of KAZ re-brands plus a few other wicking types) The fan is virtually silent (more on this in a minute) and although you can hear the gentle trickle of water, as you can on EVERY ultrasonic humidifier, it is by far the quietest unit I have ever encountered. If the sound of a second hand ticking on a clock is enough to keep you awake, I suggest no humidifier will be quiet enough. For the rest of us, this unit is fine. If you really do have noise issues, then I suggest your unit is broken, and should be returned.

Filler Tank: Every single humidifier I have used has an awkward tank design, including this one, and I really don't understand why it has to be so bad. The tank does not sit flat which makes filling difficult, the tank has to be flipped upside down to fill, meaning when you flip it back over you end up with a few stray water drops. These criticisms are shared by EVERY humidifier I've seen, so although I find them annoying, it is no different from any other device. I have yet to experience any strange leaking problems associated with the filler cap/o-ring, and I'd guess that the negative reviewer stating the filler cap leaked everywhere either had a defective, damaged or missing o-ring, Again, no different here than on any other humidifier which all seem to use the same cap/o-ring design without significant issues. Whomever had issues with the unit dumping its entire payload all over the floor probably forgot the o-ring.

LED's: Negative reviews stating the UV LED lit on startup indicating the bulb was bad are incorrect. There may be a misprint in the manual, as the light has to not only be On, but it has to be on Red. Note a red LED also indicates the tank is empty. Nothing to see here, move along. BTW, that blue LED is ridiculously bright, tape is necessary!

Output: This unit does a good job putting out the vapor for sure! The fact that I have to constantly keep refilling it is evidence of that! In fact, you can literally see a dense stream of vapor leaving the (unfortunately nonadjustable) nozzle when on its highest setting. One drawback here is that at the max setting that dense vapor is not really adequately dispersed by the fan, and I think the unit has played it too safe on the noise front to the detriment of proper dispersal at max. Left sitting on a hardwood floor at max setting, the ground did indeed feel a little sticky after a while. Either find a way to elevate the unit, place something underneath it, or probably the most practical, just turn it down a little bit. Yes, the adjustment knob does indeed vary the volume of vapor being put out. I can't say if it functions to maintain a specific humidity level, and to be honest I'd be surprised if it did, but it was fully functional to control output level.

Classic Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Diffuser

Classic Ultrasonic Aromatherapy DiffuserI've been interested in essential oils for years. I think we have about a dozen different types of diffusers stashed away around the house. I've disliked them all. They're noisy and w/i a few days get gunky and clogged.

I LOVE this one. So easy to use. Quiet. No glass and tubing everywhere. I've been switching oils right and left and all I have to do is dump out the little water that's left, wipe it out with a clothe, and I'm good to go.

I plan on getting a 2nd one for my work office!

I purchased this diffuser, not through Amazon.com, just a few days ago. It's an adequate diffuser for a small to medium sized area. It's attractive and quiet. I especially like the automatic shut off when the water level gets low, however, I would NEVER run this all night or any other time when it would be unsupervised.

My only problem with it is the cord. I don't see why they couldn't put a real electric cord on it. It has an "adapter" which is very large (2"x3"), awkward, heavy and gets hot as a pistol, so that is worrisome to me. The other end, that fits into the diffuser, is one of those single prong things like for gadgets that go into a computer.

All in all, it cost about 3 to 4 times what I would think it's worth, but most things are way too expensive for what we get these days.

Since I haven't had this very long, I can only hope it will hold up.

Update:

After using this twice, for several hours each time, I decided to clean it. I made the mistake of leaving it set, with the little leftover water/oil overnight. I found the oils had left a distinct ring around the water level in the bowl and it was very hard to clean off. I used vinegar on a paper towel (a soft cloth would work as well) and I had to do a lot of rubbing to get it clean. The clear plastic lid also has spots, apparently oil, that I've not been able to clean off. The little flat piece that they call the "umbrella cover" comes off if you just pull straight up on it, so it's easier to clean.

It would be nice if it had better instructions. The booklet says "occasional cleaning will be required" and also "clean the unit after every use with a soft cotton cloth."

So I've learned the hard way; clean it IMMEDIATELY after it's turned off and EVERY TIME I use it. Do not let it set because the oil residue will harden.

I REALLY don't like the adapter! I make sure it's unplugged after I turn the diffuser off.

A wonderful diffuser. Works well and beautifully. I will buy 3 more. Efficient use of oils, just 3 -5 drops.

Cuts off when near end of water. Great price for the functionality. Very pleased with this product. It is prettier than the picture. Don't need the cap they supply for the center opening, was very nice they sent a small vile of Lavender EE oil, Which is the best, next to PURE JASMINE. Pure Jasmine is expensive, best use other aromas, like the diluted Jasmine, and what ever aromas you like.

This diffuser is amazing! It takes just 3-5 drops of EO to diffuse over many hours. It has a timer (I use the 40 seconds off, 15 seconds on setting), intensity control, power button, and a light control also. I love it!

It was very easy to setup which I appreciated. I was excited to get it up and running and was pleased that it took very little effort. It's quiet and unobtrusive. I decided to keep the blue light off, but can understand why someone would want to use it. I haven't had it long so I can't speak to its durability, but it appears to be a solid unit for someone just getting started with diffusers. I purchased Eden's Garden Synergy Blends Sampler Pack to accompany my purchase and couldn't be happier.

La Crosse Technology WS-9630U-IT Wireless Forecast Station with Advanced Icon

La Crosse Technology WS-9630U-IT Wireless Forecast Station with Advanced IconThis is the first wireless weather station that we've found to read through steel siding. We tried 2 others with no luck. This is a great product and we love Oscar. Even my husband looks to see what he is wearing or if he's carrying an umbrella.

This is a fairly accurate weather Station. It is the second one of the same brand and model that I have purchased. The first one worked well for about 2 years before the sensor began malfunctioning and began requiring a change of batteries every 2 weeks. For the price it is a decent La Crosse Technology The Weather Channel WS-9630TWC-IT Wireless Forecast Station with Advanced Iconweather station.

I got this for my mother and installed the sensor for her. I put the sensor in a relatively shaded area on a tree just outside her house. It was easy to put up, came with 2 screws.

She says she puts the main unit in whatever room she wants to and gets a reading from out side. She also likes the humidity reading for inside. Highly recommended.

I love the the graphics that gives you a clue what kind of clothing you need for the day. The Weather Man (who most people call Oscar) changes his clothes depending on the temperature outside. He will start to wear long sleeves when temperature goes down to 66 degrees F. At 50 degrees Fahrenheit he will wear a hat and a coat. When it supposed to rain, you will see him holding an umbrella.

I got this unit from Woot, another online discount retailer owned by Amazon. Opening the package is such a pill though. I muttered a few words that I haven't used for a long long time. I almost got poked by the sharp plastic trying to pry it apart. There are two units in the package, an indoor unit where it has the large LCD panel, and the outdoor unit that you attach outside to monitor the outside temperature. Both units requires two double As batteries not included. You will need to follow a pattern when putting the batteries. First put the batteries on the smaller stick that you will place outside the house. Then put the batteries on the main unit. In about several seconds to a minute, you will see the temperature on the LCD screen appear on top. This tells you that the wireless is functioning right. If not, repeat the process of putting the batteries. Make sure to have both units close to each other during the wireless synching. After it synched, you can now place it outside anywhere you like as long as you don't place it too far. 300 ft. is the max according to the label.

It also shows humidity, date and time. The weather tendency indicator, shown with an arrow inside a rectangle on the upper left of Oscar, tells whether the air pressure is going up or down. Going up means the weather is expected to improve.

Picked this up for Christmas. So far it is working fine, even down to 29.7 degrees BELOW zero Fahrenheit. It did lose the connection with the outdoor wireless sensor one time, but a quick battery removal/replace of the main unit reestablished connection. I would buy it again.
