The Elegant 25-50 Cigar Glass Top Humidor

The Elegant 25-50 Cigar Glass Top HumidorI received the humidor today and looked it over. It is well made and they used quality wood that has a nice finish to it. The fit is just right and the seal is tight. It doesn't have a lock to keep out the curious but with the glass top that's ok. The instructions to care for the humidor are concise and well worded. It comes with everything you need to get started except the distilled water and that's easy enough to get at the grocery store. The case even comes with a brass plate that you can have engraved. I would recommend this humidor to anyone as an entry level to medium cigar affectionado. Great bang for the buck!

Pleasing to the eye, well constructed and real cedar are things brought to mind when I opened the shipping box.

The gold tone corners, tempered beveled glass top and external hygrometer are nice touches.

Even the wife said "Wow!"

Instructions for seasoning and care are included. Interior dimensions are 9 1/4" x 7 1/2" with a moveable cedar divider.

All in all, a good value cigar box for your back porch or den.

The humidor is entirely functional and really looks very good, it's much better looking in person than in the crummy Amazon photo (the cedar inside is a pinkish hue and the outside is a reddish cherry color). The glass top is nicely beveled, thick, closes with a satisfying thunk. The humidifier works well but, because the top is glass, you have to cut into your cigar storage space to place it away from the hygrometer.

Speaking of the hygrometer, it's a cheap POS and is my only real complaint. I got lucky that mine reads exactly 5 units low because the "adjustment screw" isn't a screw at all and is completely non functional. If you get one on a good day you're golden, but if you're unlucky and get a unit that is way off there really isn't anything you can do, except buy a new hygrometer.

As a fairly new cigar enthusiast, I was looking for an inexpensive but effective way to store my cigars. Let's face it, they can be an expensive hobby and I didn't want to store them in a plastic bag or risk drying them out. The humidor itself is solid, well-designed, and the seal has a good, tight feel to it. You hear the whoosh of air when it closes and the brass latch prevents any accidental opening. The glass top is thick and gives you a nice view of the contents, and there is a nice, rich cedar smell from the interior. Brass fittings and dark wood look nice on your desk, too, and the box is deep enough to hold at least 50 cigars, depending on size. If you have cigarillos or smaller cigars, you could easily get more in there. Some reviewers complain about the hygrometer not working... mine seems to be fine after about a week. The seal is tight, and using the shot glass of water, it only took a couple of days to get the humidity up to about 72%. I haven't used the humidifier, to be honest... I just use one of the humidifying gel packs, and will probably stick with that rather than mess with charging up the humidifier. All in all, this is a great buy for a beginner. Serious cigar lovers would probably prefer a higher quality box, but if you're on a budget and want a good humidor, then go for it.

March 7 -I'm updating my previous review after purchasing a new hygrometer which calibrated right on the money. But after installing it and using the 'seasoning' method in the instructions, I can't get the humidity to stay above 50. I eventually even tried replacing the shot glass of water with a 'steaming' bowl of water, which got the humidity up around 70 for a while but then it slowly went back down to 50 again. So for me this is a nice looking piece of junk. Assume I just got a bad one since others have found it to be just fine.

==================Original Review

The humidor in my music room has glass top and hygrometer in front that can be read without opening the lid so I wanted to get a smaller version for my office. This looked to fit the bill perfectly and it really would except that the hygrometer is totally useless. After going through the calibrating routine it read 39 percent humidity instead of 70-75. So according to the instructions I'm just supposed to now add 35 or so to whatever the thing reads to get an accurate reading. Right, I'm going to do that. The little searching I've done thus far for a better hygrometer hasn't led to anything with rave reviews. I'd be willing to spend $20 if I thought it would be accurate. If you know where to get a good, accurate hygrometer for this thing, it could be a nice humidor just more expensive than what you had planned.

25-cigar Humidor Cherrywood Finish

25-cigar Humidor Cherrywood FinishI decided not to spend a bundle on my first humidor because I'm not at the level of an everyday smoker, I just enjoy them occasionally so this was a perfect fit for me and my small arsenal of cigars. The humidor is made of beautiful cherrywood, and it includes a humidifier and a humidity gauge, so it has everything needed for a starter humidor. I get compliments on it all the time, and it was definately worth it for the price.

This humidor is very nice, exceeding my expectations considering the economical price. I received the shipment quickly and in fine condition. The dark cherry finish is practically flawless, and the construction quality is well above average. The brass hinges are secure and operate very smoothly. Most importantly, the lid gives the classic puff of air "whoosh" right before it closes, letting me know it is an airtight seal. The humidification element is fine, and the small analog hygrometer is adequate, but cannot be calibrated. A cedar cigar divider was included, which was a nice surprise. My only complaint is that the velcro-type strips included are not strong enough to support the weight of the humidification device. However, I substituted 3M plastic velcro strips I had which are used to hold a tollbooth pass to the windshield, and have had no problems. All in all, this is a great starter humidor for the occasional cigar smoker and I recommend it. The one I purchased and reviewed came from CheapHumidors.

I got it for my boyfriend for as a gift. The photo doesn't do it justice at all. I am so very happy with the purchase.

I purchased this humidor along with the Quality Importers Desktop Humidor, Capri-Glasstop. This humidor advertises a 25 stick capacity, the glasstop 25-50. When they arrived the packaging, color (cherry), hygrometer, divider and humistat were all identical. The only difference in the humidors was the glass top in the Capri.

That being said, the Capri does seem to have a better seal, but I attribute that to the assembly rather than the product itself. As stated in other reviews, some of these humidors have better seals and maintain RH better than others. As expected the hygrometer is worthless.

All in all seems like an ok humidor for the price and expect to have some extra space if you plan to store no more than 25 cigars.

I found this when I started looking for something to take pressure off my junk drawer, I didn't even buy it as a humidor. It was cheaper than the plain wood box I was looking at. Once I got it I decided that was stupid, a humidor is specialized equipment and I might as well use it that way. So now I have a messy junk drawer and stained teeth...great. Anyway, for you humidor newbs like me, to set it up:

Attach the velcro tabs to the inside lid. Use ample quantities of crazy glue, the glue on the velcro will not hold.

Attach the other side of the velcro to the humidification element. Also use crazy glue.

Throw out the included hygrometer and buy a digital one. Trust me, I tried for days to get it calibrated. Best I got was 1.5 points low and it went 15 points lower in 2 days. Junk it. To calibrate, fill a shot glass with salt, wet it to the consistency of wet sand, put a toothpick in it and put the shot glass and hygrometer in a sealed plastic baggie for 8 hours. Adjust the hygrometer to read 75%, repeat to confirm.

Season the wood. Wipe down all the exposed interior wood with distilled or boiled water several times. Leave a shot glass inside with water for a couple days.

Soak the humidification element and a secondary humidification element (I happened to have on hand one of those pillows meant for temporary storage) with propylene glycol solution.

Aim to maintain 69-75% RH.

EDIT: I don't know if the humidifier element is cheap or if this humidor is just kinda low quality, but I'm finding it hard to maintain proper humidity without the shot glass of water. So I keep it in there. Easy.

Air-O-Swiss Refurbished U650 Ultrasonic Humidifier - Warm and Cool Mist

Air-O-Swiss Refurbished U650 Ultrasonic Humidifier - Warm and Cool MistIt was the first time I bought a refurbished item so I was hesitant ay first. Luckily the item held up to the expectations. I've had it for more than 3 months and continues to perform well.

Was worried about spending this kind of money for a humidifier, especially a refurbished one. So far I haven't had any issues, works great, no white dust or soaked floors. I was a little proactive though, using my PUR water filter to filter the water, even though the water here is very good. Also I placed a small fan right next to the humidifier pointed up, to help disperse the water vapor better.
