325 Bionaire Electret Humidifier Replacement Filter

Realize when you buy this, that this filter is not made by Bionaire. It is adequate, and it fits the Bionaire Clear-Mist humidifier, but it is a cheap-looking filter, as opposed to the Bionaire filter that came with the humidifier. In my opinion, it is too expensive for what it is.

It seems to work good ( just got today) but sure is louder than i thought would be, if in same room as TV then you have to turn up TV about 4 or 5 notches

I got this for Xmas after asking for one because my apartment is so dry during the cold winter months. I love that it's black and matches the living room. It does the job and works great. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is noisy to the point where the television has to be turned up to block it out.

I've been looking in stores & on-line for a small humidifier for my small living room. It arrived fast & in white instead of the black in the photo, but the same otherwise. I looked at the box b/4 opening & figured it to be a bit small for a 1 gallon tank... Welp, I got had! It states it's "2 gal output a day", NOT a 2 gallon tank. It is a 1 gallon tank that you must fill 2 times a day!?!? Really? Sadly, I looked back at all the other humidifiers I looked at (close in price)and they were all like this, stating a 'daily output' & not the actual tank size. All I'll say is be aware of that!! I did see these cute, colorful teardrop shaped ones for about $44, only 10 dollars more than I paid for this one. They clearly state a 2 gallon tank. I'm most likely going to keep this one for a few days & see how it works. If I return it, I'm buying a teardrop in pink! I can say for now that the high setting is very loud. I'm all for white noise, but this may be a bit much for most folks. Low is tolerable.

Heard on the reviews that it is kind of loud which is exactly what I wanted/needed with my 1 year old. He is a light sleeper and this drowns out noise and keeps his room moist. He wakes up with his little curls in ringlettes. So darn cute!

The machine does not leak as so many complained in previous reviews. I suspect they did not have the container on tight. It must be on totally correctly. In addition, I am sure that people are using tap water for the container when the reviewer complains about the filter. I used bottled distilled water. It only costs about 85 cents a gallon and is worth the money for this and any other humidifier. The primary negative about the machine is that it is quite noisy. I use it in my bedroom but not if I am trying to watch TV. It is far too noisy for that. Even the low position is loud. The high position is really loud. For the money, it is not a bad purchase if consider the negatives not relevant.

I just purchased a Cast iron humidifier and love it-$5.95 at the local thrift store.Cast iron needs to be seasoned,just like a cast iron skillet.Clean your cast iron item,dry it out,then rub bacon grease on it,inside and out(that's the best way)or olive oil or shortening and bake it in the oven for an hour or so-that should stop the rust,let it cool down in the oven.One reviewer said she was going to paint her's-that's probally not a good idea if you are going to use it-to many chemicals in the air.Oiling it will make it nice and black.

This cast iron kettle is very sturdy and it looks great on our wood stove. Keeping it full of water while burning a fire to keep the house warm is a great way to keep moisture in the air. Before using this kettle, it became hard to breathe since my nose and throat would dry out. Now there are no worries!

The kettle does function, but the paint is flaking off. I use this on my wood burning stove, and it does steam up and humidify, but the paint isn't great. I am planning on re-painting it. so, it works for what I bought it for, but its not pretty.

I spent a lot of time researching the available options to dehumidify my new apartment, which apparently has excellent thermal insulation (it's 90 degs outside but stays at 78-80 inside without a/c) but major humidity problems, partly as a result of the a/c never kicking on. Forcing the a/c to run wasn't worth catching cold and/or freezing to death, so my first low-budget solution was DampRid. It helped, especially in the closets (i.e. small enclosed areas), but it wasn't enough to take the moisture out of the air in the bedroom and living areas. So after looking at dozens of reviews for the Bionaire BDQ24-UC and the Soleus CFM-25E, I decided to go with this model, the EDV-2200.

Rationale against conventional dehumidifier: didn't want to spend $150-200 for a heavy mechanically complicated object that may get damaged in transit, with no recourse except to bicker with Bionaire/Soleus/Amazon service reps, that may or may not arrive as a lemon (per some of the reviews), and deal with a 2-foot tall 40 pound object which is likely going to be loud and suck up significant electricity.

I'm a pessimist, and that was what I took from the reviews. The majority seemed happy with their purchases, but a few had horror stories. I have terrible luck, and I got the feeling that I too would end up griping in a review about how awful my purchase was. If I was the type to not care about dropping a couple benjamins on a device that may or may not work, then no problem, I'd go with the Bionaire or the Soleus. But frankly, I got student loans and I'm poor, so I do care about where my money goes and the EDV-2200 seemed like a good alternative.

Why I like it:

It's quiet. I have no clue as to how Peltier technology works, but all I hear is the fan, and there are minimal moving mechanical parts (no compressor, no refrigerant system, no oil leaking, nothing clanking or squeaking).

It doesn't suck up much electricity. I don't remember exactly, but I think it runs at 70watt-ish.

It's small. And rather cute. It looks like a one-foot tall egg.

It works. Sort of. I see about 240-480 mL in the collection chamber every 24 hours. It still feels a bit humid around here, but hey, 1-2 cups in the tank means 1-2 cups less water in the air.

I move it around from room to room every 24h, and where ever it is it seems to help somewhat. I wasn't expecting this thing to run like a champ and cover 900 square feet like pie...but if it can prevent my clothes and carpet from growing mold, then I consider it $80 well spent.

If you live in a swamp, you might need to step up to a traditional humidifier...this little baby won't do it. But if you don't have year-round issues and are just trying to survive a cool wet early summer without getting trench foot or having your clothes grow mold, then I think this mini-dehumidifier suffices.

I purchased this unit three months ago and had used it once a week to keep our bedroom humidity low. Left for work last week, and the 12V AC Adapter had melted and burned a hole in my carpet. I contacted Amazon about the situation, and they were extremely helpful in investigating the safety of the product. They didn't find out anything about it being unsafe... but please, be careful when leaving this product unattended and only use when you are home. Make sure to check the adapter periodically, and make sure that it doesn't overheat and melt.

I purchased this product about a month ago, and since then have been running it a good bit. It takes moisture out of the air to the tune of about half the reservoir per day, which is pretty interesting since I didn't know there was so much water to remove. That being said, I again don't know whether that is good or bad, or if the moisture isn't just as quickly replaced by outside factors. I use this dehumidifier in my bedroom, as I live in a very muggy/humid climate, and as far as I can tell it does in fact make a reasonable difference in the overall feel of the air in my room. The dimensions of my bedroom plus bathroom suite are approx 20x12x15' and 8x6x15' (high ceilings) joined. The area has three full length windows plus a door leading to the rest of the apartment, so it's never sealed like a painted-shut-window or weather-sealed setup would be. It rained pretty hard the last couple of days, and normally in a room like this you'd feel a little on the drenched side while sleeping, but I was definitely a bit more comfortable than that. Not perfect mind you, but then again this isn't one of those $300 units either.

I would recommend this for light usage, but not necessarily in an area like mine that's just going to stay pretty humid no matter what you might do to dry it out.

I wanted to review the product after I had enough time to use it. I live near the ocean and so humidity is a common problem in my house. I got this unit to utilize in the kid's room. There is noticeably high humidity in their room, enough so that condensation forms on the walls at times.

1. NoiseOthers have stated that the noise level on this unit is loud to whisper quiet. I would disagree with both the extremes. The fan is soft enough my kids have no problem sleeping through them. I am a little bit more sensitive to noise when I sleep and therefore would have to turn the machine off. It is quiet enough to have on during the daytime hours without considering it noise pollution.

2. EffectivenessI would rate it is effective. There is a good amount if water collected at the base after just a few days, and only with it running for a max two hours a day. It works and it works well enough for a small 150 sq. ft. room. Larger areas were not tested.

3. CostAfter researching dehumidifiers, I would say it has a fair and reasonable cost to value ratio. It arrived at my door without damage nor any delay.

4. ImprovementsAny product can be improved upon. I would have liked an air filter attachment to this machine. Reason, it would provide less debris into the room when the machine spits the sucked in air back out.Also, debris will eventually become lodged in the thermoelectric machinery rendering the unit useless. It would probably take years in a normal home environment but sooner if the air quality is less then desirable, i.e. dusty garage.

Would I purchase this unit again? Yes, and without hesitation.

I bought this product in June for my piano. The water taken from the room overflows from the tank, not giving any sign of fullness. This is because the float is too small and weak, and cannot push up the alarm switch. They should correct this design mistake. I tried to contact Eva-Dry directly but did not go through. The only thing I like is the quietness of this machine other than that it's O.K. but not great.

Significantly cheaper than most I found and seem to be decent. I will detail any significant problems after using them for a period of time.

SPT SU-4010 Ultrasonic Dual-Mist Warm/Cool Humidifier with Ion Exchange Filter

Pros:

1. It actually turns on. I got this unit after my Crane Adorable Humidifier (Penguin shape) refused to turn on.

2. It just works. I have a 10x13 room and this humidifier took my room's humidity from 21% to 42% in about 3 hours.

3. I really like the form factor. The unit is only 5.31 inches deep so it can easily fit on top of a short bookcase that also has a small depth. Few other humidifiers would fit where I have this humidifier right now.

4. It is fairly easy to fill. The top of the tank is flat so that when you turn the tank upsidedown to fill it, it can lie flat.

5. I'm pretty happy with the mist quality. Even on the highest setting, you're not going to see fat droplet sizes coming out. You are not going to end up with a puddle on the floor as long as you put it on a surface at least 2 feet above the floor.

Cons:

1. Some reviewers have complained about water leaking out of the tank. I noticed that on my unit, the washer (or o-ring) for the tank cap is a little bit too big. If you turn the cap shut too tightly, the o-ring will roll on itself, and the next time you unscrew the cap and screw it back on, the washer may not provide a good seal because it is out of place. Even the manual tells you to make sure the washer is in place when screwing on the cap. As long as the washer is in place, it won't leak. This is just a slight annoyance.

2. If you are blowing warm mist and you want to change it back to cool mist, it'll take awhile for it to become cold again because the unit does not actively cool the water. You'll have to either pour out the existing warm water in the base or wait until all the warm water in the base gets sent out. I am not a big fan of warm mist so it's a non-issue.

3. The unit is fairly quiet and I am pretty sure most people can sleep with the unit on without a problem. However, I am an ultra-sensitive sleeper and anything louder than completely silent is too much for me. If it was the just the humming noise, I think I would be able to take it, but what bothers me the most is the inevitable random water sounds caused by the ultrasonic plate generating large droplets of water and those droplets of water coming back down. Almost every humidifier will do that. The water noise is fairly low, it is just the randomness of the noise that annoys me when I try to sleep. When I am awake and my computer is on, I barely notice the humidifier because my computer is many times noisier than the humidifier and my computer is already pretty quiet.

Tradeoffs:

1. Yes, the tank is only 4 liters, but do you want a humidifier that fits on a bookcase or not?

2. Sure, the tank only last 12 hours on the maximum setting, but isn't that the point of a humidifier? If you desperately want humidity, wouldn't you want the humidifier to empty the tank as quickly as possible?

Other thoughts:

It is nice that this unit comes with a water filter, but of course the manual will recommend that you fill it with distilled water rather than tap water. Considering that I'll be breathing the water I put into the humidifier, I've been filling my tank with water that I've passed through a Brita filter in a water pitcher. However, doing that is somewhat a pain because it takes multiple pitchers to fill up the tank. I am thinking about getting a faucet filter so that I can fill the tank quickly.

UPDATE: My 10x13 room just hit 50% relative humidity and I'm loving it. My windows are starting to fog up, maybe I should turn it off.

I got this for my son and it is the best humidifier yet.

I've tried a bunch of inexpensive ultrasonic, evaporation, and heating element based units but this one is the first that actually went ALL night.

It has a output volume knob that actually works: High is as thick as pea-soup fog and low is merely mouth breathing.

There is a built-in filter on the water supply so that may extend the life a bit but I don't know yet.

The light's aren't the super annoying injection laser diodes that I've seen on other models.

The vapor direction nozzle is nice because you can point the power and water alarm lights away from your bed.

I really like this humidifier. Last year I tried to use the "Honeywell HCM-6009 QuietCare 9-Gallon Console Humidifier with Air Washing Technology" and was disgusted by the poor quality of it. The thing started to smell like mildew after one week, so I cleaned the filter and it was okay for only one day. We returned it.

The sunpentown humidifier has an ion exchange filter, so it doesn't smell at all. Plus, it is SILENT!! Even on high, you cannot hear it AT ALL.

We use it in a large living room (twice the size of the recommended area) and it works just fine. Also, you can actually see the mist coming out. In the words of a previous reviewer, it really is like pea soup.

We use it on medium and the water tank lasts for about 12-14 hours. If you use it in a smaller room, the low setting would work just fine, so it would last much longer.

The reason I only gave it four stars is because when the setting is on high, the water vapor coming out of the humidifier is so thick and heavy that most of it falls to the ground, getting everything damp and wet, and getting less moisture into the air. In fact, even on the medium setting, we have it set up on a countertop to maximize evaporation. This humidifier does not work well when placed on the floor.

We have had this humidifier for a few months now, and are very happy with it. Also, it looks very nice. It is not bulky and ugly like other humidifiers.

This is the best of the humidifiers I've purchased so far. The mist is extremely fine and the dual direction spout is handy. No irritating mineral deposit pads either. The litmus test will be how long the ionic filter actually lasts.

I've found that I only have to refill the unit once daily if I keep the humidity dial on a lower setting. If you want to raise the humidity, just be prepared to refill more frequently. Of interest is that the warm vapor setting results in vapor that isn't hot so much as luke warm. Still, it's better than cold vapor.

One special notation is that Amazon recommends combining this product purchase with the Protec Antimicrobial Cleaning Cartridges. However, the Protec instruction sheet contained in the package clearly instructs users to never use the product with ultrasonic humidifiers. Heads-up...

This unit got me through some very dry winter days. I'll list the pros and cons:

PROS:

1. It is thin and compact and can fit on a bedstand, unlike some of its big ugly hulking competitors.

2. It is almost completely silent!

3. The steam nozzle swivels so you can direct where it goes.

4. The translucent blue water chamber is nice for seeing the water level at a glance.

5. Finely adjustable mist levels, and hot/cold mist.

CONS:

1. The blue water chamber fills up from the bottom. So you have to take it off, turn it upside down and unscrew a cap in order to fill it up. Not a huge deal, but not the most convenient method either.

2. The entire unit has to be carried from the bottom since the blue water chamber merely sits on the top of the white section. Again, not a big deal once you have the unit where you want it.

3. The hot/cold mist didn't work for me. Maybe the heat element in mine is broken, but I didn't really feel the difference between the hot and cold settings. I didn't really care; cold mist was fine.

4. It's a little pricey as these devices go. But worth it, in my opinion.

Overall, a very nice unit.

UPDATE 2011: This unit is still going strong. It did start making some annoying gurgling noises, so I ran steaming hot water through both the top reservoir and the bottom piece (unplugged first, of course). This fixed the gurgling problem and also gave me a nice surprise: the hot mist feature, which never did anything before, started working! I clean it a little more often now in order to prevent future gurgling, and I put a ProTec antimicrobial cleaning cartridge in there monthly.
