Venta Airwasher -Charcoal, 5014436

Venta Airwasher -Charcoal, 5014436After reading the reviews and seeing several advertisements, I decided to purchase the Venta LW14 for my bedroom. Venta products are German made and considering the 200.00 price tag, you might say they are the Mercedes of Humidifier/Air cleaners. Besides, Venta's advertising claims that Siegfried & Roy as well as Jose` Carreras are customers, so it's got to be good right?

The LW14 uses a very simple and efficient design of a small 2-speed fan that blows across a housing which holds 1.2 gallons of water. In the water housing lies a molded stack of 40 discs. (Picture a stack of your old '45' records all spaced about one tenth of an inch apart.) This 'disc stack' is slowly turned by a plastic gear set which is attached to the bottom of the fan shaft. As the turning wet discs are exposed to the blown fan air, the theory is that, the water will evaporate off the discs into the air and dust particles in the air are attracted to the wet discs and then deposited in the water basin. As dry, dirty air is drawn in through the top, clean and humidified air is blown out the sides of the unit. It is a great yet simple design idea.

The unit does not require any filter pads but instead requires the Venta Treatment Additive every 10-14 days. Each packet contains 1.5 fl oz. and you get two packets in the box to start. Replacements come in a box of 10 packets for about 17.00 and can be purchased at Bed & Bath or on-line through Venta or other sources. I can state from experience, that the unit will hardly evaporate any water without using this additive. According to Venta's user guide, the additive contains `wetting' and `softening' agents that make the water 'sheet' off the discs instead of 'bead' off. They also state that the additive prevents calcium and lime build up making the unit easier to clean and that it helps eliminate odors and bacteria in the water basin as well. You should refill the basin daily and then rinse it out completely and refill every 10-14 days with fresh water and an additive packet. Venta states that every six months the unit should get a through cleaning with another chemical the sell, Venta Cleaner(15.00 per bottle, one bottle needed per cleaning). Venta adds that a solution of vinegar and water can be used in place of the special cleaner.

I purchased the LW14 several weeks ago from a local Bed Bath & Beyond Store. During unpacking, I noticed a small black piece of broken plastic. I could not find anything broken at first so I took this as a piece of assembly 'flash' as found when building plastic models. I ran the unit from 7PM to 7AM in my bedroom for three nights. On the third night, I heard a clicking noise that I found emanated from the plastic gear set that turns the disc stack. I called Venta directly and the representative advised me to swap the unit out at Bed & Bath so I did so.

Oddly, the second new unit had the same mysterious plastic piece in the bottom of the box. I ran the second unit, and after a few days, I again noticed the clicking noise. Further inspection also revealed a broken plastic top latch. This was the mysterious plastic `piece' but did not explain the recurrence of the click noise. This latch is a part of Venta's '1 Click' design that makes the top motor housing easy to open for cleaning. I called Venta and they were great. They stated that this latch was part of the fan motor so they sent me out a new fan motor as well as a new gear set to cure the click noise.

Now I installed the replacement fan motor, but strangely, I found that it was much louder and spun much faster, on both speeds, as the initial two units. With this new faster replacement fan, I found it was too loud to have in my bedroom, even on the low speed setting. I called Venta again to inquire. The Venta representative was surprised and did not realize that the replacement fans were faster and louder than the fans that the units are shipped with right out of the box.

In any event, I decided to reinstall the initial fan with the broken latch, that came with the second unit, and I paired it up with the replacement gear set which eliminated the click noise.

I have an expensive humidity monitor in my bedroom and I have seen an increase in humidity from 40% to 52% with the LW14 running on low speed all night. Oddly, the unit is only losing about an inch of water in this time period. (Venta claims that the LW14 can use all 1.2 gallons of water in a 24-hour period in dry rooms.)

To Summarize: The LW14 does humidify well and I believe it is also cleaning the air as advertised. Gear noise, inferior plastic pieces are an issue as well as inconsistent replacement parts. I don't believe these problems should exist on a 200.00 German made humidifier. The customer service is very professional and the unit has a 10-year warranty. I have decided to keep the unit even with these service issues.

I have read reviews of the larger Venta models and decided to purchase one. However, this smaller model was sufficient for the room I placed it in.

Yes, the Venta products are a wee bit pricey. However, if it lasts only half of the 10-year warranty, it will be well worth the price. I have, in the past, purchase lesser-priced products of this type and they did not last.

I like the Venta LW14-it does its job well, as both an air purifier and humidifier.

It is fairly quiet; the only annoyance is the slight sound of the plastic gear that moves the wheel around in the unit's water tank. (Hence, I gave the product only 4 stars, instead of 5). So, if you place it in a bedroom-the noise might bother some people who are light sleepers.

The product does not have a water level indicator; therefore, you should periodically check the water level-I check at least once each day.

I plan to purchase a second unit, to place in my study.

I purchased this unit over a month ago, because I live in the valley (PHX AZ) and there is a problem with air polution during the fall to spring each year. I also quit smoking a couple of years ago and go figure I now have a bit of asthma. I've tried a few cheaper air cleaners that just did not seem to do anything for me.

Like the enclosed brochures say, you must use the water treatment and it can go through a gallon in a day. Mine does exactly that, and I do notice a difference each morning when I wake up that it helps make my breathing a bit easier.

As far an annoying clicking, there is a very light clicking when it runs, but come on, if you need absolute complete silence to sleep try a library. I appreciate just a light bit of background noise when I sleep anyway.

When I clean it every 2 weeks as suggested, I do also notice some dirt/dust residue in the reservoir.

As far as the price not being so nice, I purchased mine at Bed Bath and Beyond and used one of the 20% coupons which knocks it down a bit ($40). It's like anything else in life-you get what you pay for. I'm glad I made this great investment.

I bought one of these for my wife for Christmas. We used it in our bedroom and found that after a few days it developed a harmonic rattle that was loud enough to disrupt our sleep. i called Venta and they suggested some things which helped, initially, but that rattle kept coming back. I exchanged the airwasher for another thinking it might just be the unit, but the second one developed a similar noise in just a few days. I returned it for a cheaper ultrasonic Venta humidifier and we've been happy ever since.

I have two LW-14 and one LW-24. After one year, all three have started to make noises. The LW-24 and one of the LW-14 have defective fan speed controls. Is this what Venta calls a "solid product?" Try to order parts, and you'll pay more for shipping than what the darn part is worth, way more. I refused to spend over $150.00 dollars in parts for this garbage.

Frigidaire FAD704DWD Energy Star 70-pint Dehumidifier

Frigidaire FAD704DWD Energy Star 70-pint DehumidifierThe last 5 dehumidifiers I have purchased (3 Kenmore dehumidifiers and 2 Frigidaires) have all failed within 5 years of purchase and 2 of the 4 have failed within a year of purchase. In my experience the reliability of dehumidifiers in general has diminished greatly over the years. So every time I have to purchase another, I do the research all over again and I find myself going in circles. All brands seem to have similar complaints having to do with longevity.

Consequently, I always purchase an extended warranty now. For the $40 or so that they cost, it gives you some peace of mind that at least you will be able to get a replacement if the dehumidifier should break down outside of the manufacturers warranty period.

My first Frigidaire dehumidifier was the FAD704TDP, purchased in April 2011. That lasted just slightly over a year before breaking down. The compressor failed. I was in luck because even though the 1-year warranty had just expired, the compressor was warrantied for 5-years. Whew, dodged a bullet there.

I had read elsewhere that Frigidaire was notoriously difficult to deal with regarding warranty repair/replacement. In my experience, what Frigidaire does instead of sending you a new unit is to "buy back" your old unit. You don't return it to them, they just send you a check. Fortunately Frigidaire "bought" my defective unit back from me and using the proceeds I was able to replace it with the FAD704DUD. Contrary to some peoples hassles with Frigidaire warranty issues, I had no problem whatsoever with my interaction with Frigidaire. The check was sent to me promptly and with no problems.

I did a lot of further research and decided that all manufacturers had their share of disgruntled customers so I decided to give Frigidaire another chance and purchased my second Frigidaire dehumidifier, the FAD704DUD 70 pint dehumidifier to replace the defective. That one was purchased June 2012 and is still working. However, I live in the North East and right now it's the tail end of winter so the dehumidifier, although it is plugged in and turned on, hasn't actually had to operate since the Fall of 2012. I'm assuming it will work just fine come spring and the ensuing damp weather. But given the history I've had with dehumidifiers, they seem to work no longer than 3-5 years before breaking down, I had an opportunity to get this FAD704DWD and did so even though the dehumidifier I bought last year seemingly still works fine.

The outward appearance of this dehumidifier is identical to the FAD704DUD. The only differences between this 2013 model: FAD704DWD and the 2012 model: FAD704DUD are some minor changes in the specifications:

FAD704DWD (2013) FAD704DUD (2012)

Amps (Cool): 7.8 vs Amps (Cool): 7.2

Horsepower (Cool): 1.00 vs Horsepower (Cool): 1.03

Watts (Cool): 745 vs Watts (Cool): 765

So as you can see, the FAD704DWD uses 20 less Watts of electricity. But as you'll also notice, the Horsepower has been reduced slightly so I'm not sure if the operation of the unit will be quite the same. I do noticed a very minor change in the tone of fan blower. It sounds like it might be running just a touch slower than the last years model. Very minor, but maybe that's all it takes to reduce energy consumption by 20 watts.

When I received the new dehumidifier and removed the tape that secures the collection tank to the unit, I discovered that the float assembly was not attached where it was supposed to be attached and was just flopping around in the bottom of the tank. There was also a broken piece of clear plastic that I still haven't quite figured out where it came from yet. But I plan to take the entire thing apart to find out where it broke off from. I carefully reattached the float assembly and was good to go.,

I like the profile and appearance of this dehumidifier. It's exactly the same dimensions of last years model. It is not very deep nor wide, but it is somewhat tall. It measures roughly 16" wide, 11" deep and 24.5" tall.

The cord length is 6' 6" and there is a cord wrap on the back of the unit. The plug is a 3-prong grounded plug.

The fan is not exceedingly loud but it's not whisper quiet... perfectly tolerable though. If it's in your basement and not in your direct earshot, you probably won't ever hear it operate at all. The fan blows the exhaust out of the top of the unit which I feel it circulates the air better than blowing it out the side which is where some units have the fan output.

The collection container hold 16.3 pints and has a handle to help you carry it over to a sink. However, It just does not have a decent way to tip the bucket easily to pour the water out. I am always sloshing and spilling water all over the place when I try emptying the full bucket. It's awkward. Plus, 16.3 pints may sound like a lot of capacity but it fills rather quickly in my climate so I use the "continuous operation" method. My dehumidifier is located near my sump pump in my basement. I attach a hose to the dehumidifier and route that right into the sump pump. It's a great way to do it because I do not have to be bothered with emptying the dehumidifier and it is able to run continuously.

Overall I'm very pleased with the Frigidaire FAD704DWD 70-pint dehumidifier. I withold 5 stars simply because of the longevity issues I've discussed. Should this prove to be long-lasting, I will update my review and provide an update.

I decided to do a quick initial review of this 70 pint dehumidifier since everyone will be looking at getting one for the summer season soon. I will update durability in future months. I received this May 2013. It came delivered in its original box very quickly (2 days) shipped UPS. It says on the box not to lay on its side. I recommend upon receiving this unit to leave it sit for 24 hours before plugging in when you get it in its final resting spot just in case someone along the way shipped it on it's side to let the compressor oil drain back down. The shipping box seemed sufficient, however It did come with a crack in the plastic back due to an impact. The box appears to be able to flex on the backside enough and there is only foam protection on the ends. Amazon of course took care of me on this. On to the initial review. The design of the cabinet is tasteful and has a few features I liked over my past Fedders unit. Thoughtful features like an integrated handle that hides away at the top when not in use. The unit rolls easily on its caster without tipping. The bucket has a red ball in it to show you water level and a flip down handle to assist in the emptying process. I also liked the way the hose outlet was molded into the cabinet with a screw on plug. Past units I have owned seemed the hose connection was an afterthought. The only feature I thought was oddly placed was the reusable filter which can only be accessed when the bucket is removed. The control panel is nicely layed out and includes power, fan speed, humidity control and a handy timer function in which you can program it to come on in so many hours from now when the energy costs are lower. Very legible 2 digit readout for humidity and can be adjusted in increments of 5% down to 35, or continuous operation. When you are adjusting the levels the readout reflects your setting and when you release the buttons it then reads the room humidity. There is also a filter reset on the top panel. After so many hours of operation it will remind you to clean it.

I set the humidity to 50 and turned the fan on high. The compressor does not start right away and seems to take 5 min to kick in. I played with the high low fan speed. There is a noticeable lower noise between the two, but not enough to make me want to leave it in low. On to the energy use. When the unit is plugged in with nothing running it appears to use about 2 watts of power, but not continuous. I noticed it reads 2 watts intermittently, maybe coming on to check the humidity level. If this is the case, it would only need to do this once every couple of minutes instead of every 20 seconds or so like it does. When the fan is in the low position with the compressor off, it uses 58 watts and when it is in high it uses 66 watts. Not a lot of energy savings, but a bit of payoff (slight) in noise. The air is sucked in the front and ejected out the top vents. When the compressor kicks in the noise does not increase by much at all and can hardly be heard over the fan noise. Initially with the compressor running and the fan on high the wattage consumed was between 630 and 591, fluctuating. As the unit ran for a couple of days this seemed to drop to a steady 578, well below the wattage in the spec, possible the compressor breaking in?. Instead of water dripping continuously out of the hose connector, it seems to be ejected at regular intervals. This interval initially was every 16 seconds. The amount of water ejected was 7.5ml. The water being pulled out was well over the 70 pints a day, somewhere just over 90 pints. This continued for the first couple of days and now seems to be ejecting about 7ml every 35 seconds. I will continue to monitor this as time goes on. It may just be that the humidity was so high it was taking more out than the rated average.

Overall I am satisfied with it so far. I highly recommend using the hose end as you will be dumping that 16.3 pint bucket a few times a day. If you do not have a floor drain, maybe look into a model with a built in pump for a few dollars more to pump it up to a sink. Something notable about the noise. I did find it quieter than my fedders model and since it is in my basement I don't care much. If you are watching TV beside it you may be annoyed. Thanks to John M Yelton, I can now confirm that the fan DOES shut off when the dialed in humidity has been reached. On average it takes about 7 minutes after the compressor shuts off for the fan to go off. This is a bit annoying, but perhaps it will eliminate rust issues I noticed my fedder unit had after a few years as the coils get a chance to air dry after they start to go back to room temp. I did notice though that the unit doesn't stay off for long. Between the 7 min fan cycle it give the sensor a bit of time to activate the compressor so it seems that it just shuts off, then the compressor kicks in again 5 min later to take some more moisture out of the room and it just repeats itself. Mind you, I am drying a 2000 square foot basement and this will probably slow down as it drys out. Keep in mind this is the first few days of operation, and since I am on "time of use" hydro billing, it has been off much of the day since that is the expensive time to operate.

I have an idea for mine to be turned on only when my hydro is at its cheapest (7pm to 7am) For those of us with home automation you could say run this unit 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and all weekend (cheapest energy rate times). This unit could be controlled remotely by utilizing the bucket full contact switch.

UPDATE May 11 -2013. The wattage consumed continues to drop. I monitored it again for an hour and it has dropped below 500 watts, in the 480 range (A far cry from the 745 Watts they rate it for) so this is a pleasant surprise. I will continue to monitor this. It could be the compressor loosening up an not having to work as hard (hopefully) and not something else.

I also noticed the time between moisture ejects has increased from 7.5 ml every 16 seconds to 7.5 ml every 60 or so seconds. A sign my basement is getting drier I suppose.

Happy so far.

Going on my 3rd unit in a 10 days! First unit leaked water from the back panel right away. Called Amazon and got another one sent out (UPS call tag sent for defect) Second unit came in 2 days and also leaked from the back panel, but the drain outlet on the back was pushed in and cracked! Called Amazon and they sent out a third unit (UPS call tag sent again). All was well and working for 2 days, AND again leaking from the BACK! Many state this is a wonderful product and I have had earlier models, with no problem. There must have been a bad run at one time and something is not right inside with the run-off. There may be insulation missing on the piping or just not properly applied. Will call a service center and find out if there is a known issue with these units. If not, I will call Amazon for perhaps the FAD704 DUD (earlier model) It's not Amazons fault and they have been great in handling this situation (shipping and returns) Will advise.

This Dehumidifier is great! It really sucks the moisture out of the air in my entire basement and since I ran a hose to the utility drain it runs continiously and keeps the humidity at the 40 percent setting (you can set it for whatever percent you want to maintain) pretty darn accurately. It's much quieter than other units I have had and I've been wanting another one for upstairs and lo! Vine offered me one to review. The exact same model I now have. I can vouch for it's functioning as described and 70 pints is 8.75 gallons of water if you don't have the facilities for running the drain hose...so unless you're in Florida...you won't be running to empty it every few hours. The basement in my house has always had a moisture problem and this is the only unit I've found that you can run constantly that does the job and is quiet enough it won't interfere with your other activities. As one reviewer noted however you wouldn't want it in the room with you watching Television...fortunately there is a door on the entertainment room that can be closed while we watch movies.

I'm just thrilled with this dehumidifier. It replaces an 10 year old Whirlpool, and provides a number of key benefits for my needs:

1. Quiet even at full fan speed the noise level is remarkably low. You can easily have a conversation standing next to it. Unlike the Whirlpool, I can't hear it running in the basement when I'm upstairs.

2. Water container easy to remove and pour out without any splashing or messes. I often use the water to water my plants, so being able to carry and pour the container without drips is wonderful! Although I don't use it with a drain, it comes with a drain connector so it can discharge the water into a floor drain or sump if you don't want the water to collect in the bin.

3. Space conservation the air intake is on the front and the outlet is on the top, so I can position the unit to be flush against the wall. Takes up far less room than units with the fan outlet on the back. While this is tall, it sticks out only about a foot from the wall. It rolls easily over hard surfaces and low-pile carpet.

4. Controls I love that I can set the unit to a specific humidity level rather than guess with a dial-type humistat. It cycles off when it hits the set level, and cycles back on when the humidity creeps up.

5. Filter it has a washable mesh filter that is easy to remove and clean. Since I have cats (and the unit is in the basement which is dusty to begin with) that will save me from having to clean the coils as much as I have had to do with the Whirlpool to remove dust and cat hair.

6. Ease of use the control panel is well laid out, clearly marked, and simple to use.

This is one of those rare products where I can't come up with a single negative. The only thing I can't speak to yet is durability. I'm hopeful it will be reliable as other Frigidaire products I have (AC, oven, washer/dryer), and will update the review should there be any reliability issues.

Highly recommend!

SPT SU-3751 Ultrasonic Pig-Shaped Humidifier

SPT SU-3751 Ultrasonic Pig-Shaped HumidifierWe were very happy with the first SPT SU-3750 Ultrasonic Penguin-Shaped Humidifier humidifier we bought, so we a pig, and eventually, five more penguins. I liked the penguin better than the pig from the start, and I still do, even though my review for the penguins is now less favorable than it was at first. I haven't bothered to look for a replacement.

DO THEY WORK? Yes, the our only pig and four of the six penguins do. I can run the penguins faster than the pig, because mist starts leaking out around the pig's face and getting the shelf wet if I turn it up too much (or don't get the face seated right.) We usually run each penguin for about 18 hours, and the pig for 20-22, with each roughly 1 gallon tank-full. Mist starts coming out immediately when you turn it on.

MODEL: I don't like the pig as well as the penguin because the mist comes out the pig's snout, which is not at the very top. It's easy to not get the face seated correctly on the body, and then mist comes out all over, getting your shelf wet. Even it the face is seated properly, if you run it full steam, some mist comes out around the edges of the face. (Not to mention that mist comming out the snout is a little gross. Also, the red light by the knob makes the pink bottom part glow in a dark room, which I find slightly creepy.)

NOISE: Most of them are pretty quiet, altough they do generate some white noise, and you occasionally hear bubbles as the base "gulps" water from the tank.

CLEANING: I rarely do. I love that these stay pretty clean with basically no maintenance. We had a cool mist humidifier with a filter that quickly grew all kinds of orange stuff, and warm mist vaporizers that create black shale-like stuff in the tanks, so these penguins are better. I use regular tap water, and we do get a little white dust/mineral deposit film from these (which is much worse with one unit than with the other three), and after a couple months I've noticed stuff starting to grow, mainly in the parts where the mist comes up & out. It would be nice if the base didn't still have a bunch of water in it when you take off the tank, so you could easily let everything dry out every now and then or so to keep stuff from growing.

FILLING: You take off the face, lift off the tank (the clear part), flip it over and unscrew a cap on the bottom of the tank, and fill it in a sink or bathtub. It's nice that it fits in a regular bathroom sink. It would be nicer if you could bring a jug of water to the pig and fill it in place, without turning it upside down, or at least if it wouldn't drip when you carry the tank.

SUITABLE AROUND KIDS: Yes. The mist & units are cool, so little kids can't get burned. And they're cute. My 2 1/2 year old loves "raking the smoke", slicing a spatula through the mist. He does turn the ones on the counter on and off.

MAKE SURE: 1) It's high enough above the floor that the floor won't get wet. (A 42" counter is fine, lower may be ok too.) 2) the tank is seated properly: a couple bubbles rising will let you know that the tank is back on the base correctly. Otherwise, it will use up the water in the base, then stop making mist even though the tank is still full.

This is a really great humidifier if you're looking for something inexpensive, with no filters to replace. It's very simple, easy to use and really puts out a lot of steam (adjustable, of course). Since it goes through the water quickly, it doesn't build up pink gunk like other more expensive humidifiers weve tried. The only thing that's a little tricky is getting the water tank back on the base without splashing a few drops. But overall, it's a pig with steam coming out it's snout! What's not to love?

I've had this humidifier for 2 years now, and it's still going strong. After two years, the LED light indicator has definitely gone out, but the main function still works well. I've never had a problem with leaks. Other than the LED light, this humidifier works just as well as the day I bought it. Great value for a simple product.

I ordered this pig last month, and I don't know how I ever lived without it! I run it mostly while I'm awake, as I have a fear of running appliances unattended, but lately I've caught a cold and have been running it at night as well. Not only does it work wonderfully (great control for mist output!), but many of my friends have expressed how jealous they are, as they own plain, boring humidifiers. So unless you're really boring, don't feel silly buying the pig!

Refilling is easy, and I've had no issues placing the tank back on the base (it was somewhat tricky the first day, but never again). Although it's not the recommendation, I've been using tap water, with no negative effects so far. Though, I do plan on switching to filtered soon, as I love my pig and want him to have a good life.

  • 2 locks to ensure security

I got this for travel and it's awesome. Keep cigars fresh and protected for long time and the box is really tough (believe me). This humidor fits my large Churchill sized cigars with some room to spare. It also packs fairly compactly. The construction is excellent. It is definitely waterproof, and crush proof to a point. I have no fear for my cigars being mixed up with a bunch of heavy excavation tools and rocks, but I wouldn't put it over a train's tracks or anything.

Have had at least one of these for a couple years, just replaced one I gave to my son. I don't like the tiny foam humidifier in the lid (not because it doesn't work, I just don't like it), so I keep a humi-tube in the case. With that, it works super. Haven't tried seriously long-term storage, but cigars will keep for a few weeks at least, and don't get crushed bouncing around inside a bag or under the car seat.

Great product. Arrived a few days after ordering. The product was exactly the same as the item described. Would order this again from this company.

During a cleaning, the glass dome fell into the sink and cracked in half. I emailed the company for a replacement dome and they quickly quoted me $20. When I called in to pay with my cc number the customer service agent said "Happy Holidays, we are going to replace this free of charge". They even covered the shipping. *Note this is the only serene house sentsitizer that doesn't come with a speaker. That fact is clear on their website but somehow jacked it up on the amazon description. I didn't need it to play music anyway. I bought it for the pleasing smells which it does like a charm.

There is neither a place to plug in my device and there is no internal speaker........The package the thing came in even advertises the feature on the box. However, it does not have that functionality. Avoid this scam.

Honeywell H39850 Shark Infinity Replacement Belt

Honeywell H39850 Shark Infinity Replacement BeltThe item looked like good quality, however it didn't fit our Shark Infinity vacuum... this is likely my fault for not realizing there were different Shark Infinity models. I am pleased at how fast it was picked up and I was given a refund.

I have a Shark Upright Infinity vacuum and need to replace the roller belts. These belts do not fit anywhere! When I tried to return them to eAccess, they promised to accept the return and pay for the initial shipping, item, and return shipping. They messed up the transaction and then refused to pay for the return shipping. The cost to return the item was more than the product!

These belts are hard to come by, as the machine I have is a model not manufactures anymore. Amazon does not discriminate; these belts are for multiple machines, and the price is extremeley reasonable, and availability was better than the Shark web site could tell me.

Honeywell Easy to Care Cool Mist Humidifier, HCM-710

Honeywell Easy to Care Cool Mist Humidifier, HCM-710I've been using the Honeywell Cool Mist for several weeks. It works great. Hums along on high about like a bathroom fan. I really like the convenience of using tap water, and not having to disassemble it when I fill it. It's easy to overlook regularly cleaning it, but beware, the filter gets very grungy after a month's use. You risk cultivating your own bacterial soup and blowing it out in your room if you fail to keep it clean. The anti-bacterial inserts might help, I didn't get one. Buy a bunch of filters so you can change them at least monthly.

I bought this humidifier from Sears to use in my bedroom after getting tired of filling the whole house humidifier.

I can tell the difference as to whether I use it or not. Definitely, it does add water to the air. It puts about 2 quarts of water into the air overnight, and then you can refill it and run it during the day if you want. Without it, I tend to get a dry throat and wake myself coughing. Maybe other brands do better. This one was adequate for what I needed.

Buy Honeywell Easy to Care Cool Mist Humidifier, HCM-710 Now

I live in a small one bedroom apartment. During the winter months I run this humidifier 100% of the time, on the low (quiet) fan speed setting. I do this as preventative maintenance for chapped lips and hands. I've measured changes of between 10 and 20% in humidity using a digital hygrometer. This humidifier requires regular wick replacement at $13 a pop, as well as weekly cleaning to prevent it from smelling like a shoe. After 5 months of use, and maintenance, I am still satisfied with my purchase. Chapped lips and hands are a thing of the past!

PROS

Easy Refill

Quiet

Prevents chapped lips and hands

Reliable (simple design/few moving parts)

Evaporation (impossible to over-saturate)

Effective (10-20% more humidity in small one bedroom apartment)

36 hours between refills

Actually filters a little dust out of the air in addition to humidifying

CONS

Constant Wick Replacement (every 2 months/$13 a pop)

Weekly cleaning/maintenance

Not 100% silent (you'll want an ultrasonic humidifier)

Shoe smell if not maintained

I got mine at Target for $25 I let it run over an hour and the humidity didnt come up so I took it back. When I boil water the humidity reader goes up in 20 minutes. I got a Holmes warm mist & I love it.

We love the fact that you can just pour water into the top---no screw top lids that are difficult to handle. It is easy to clean and filters are easy to replace. The motor makes a very nice even sound---not too loud. We just ordered the allergy filters and will see if that helps some with our allergies. Another plus for this model is the fact that we have never had a problem with water leakage---the bottom section is solid--no seams to leak. Also, the knob is on the top and easy to see for easy on/off use. Overall the best feature is the ease of adding water! I would definitely buy another of this brand and style.

Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier

Honeywell Cool Moisture HumidifierI've owned one of these humidifiers for years and bought two new ones while they were on sale. I find it's the best unit for the money and better than others I've tried that cost more. It's a bit loud on high but they all are unless you spend >$100. You only need it on high until the humidity gets to the level where you want it and after that it can stay on low most of the time. I have two of them so I run one in the bedroom during the day and one in the living room at night. That way if I want absolute silence, the room I'm using is never too dry to turn the unit off (even for several hours).

The newer black model is attractive, allowing it to not look like a medical device. Unlike some other brands (ie Sunbeam) the replacement filters are easy to find and last a long time. The filters are also less expensive than any other model I've owned or looked into.

Considering function and value, at $25 it's a five star unit. It hasn't been around for well over a decade for no reason.

Lastly, but by no means of least importance, the company stands behind their products and has real live people to speak with if you need any kind of help (even after the warranty was up in my case). This review might read like an ad for Honeywell (Kaz) but I assure you I have no affiliation with them. It's just a reliable product at a good price from a decent company.

I purchased this humidifier to replace an older Honeywell model that I just loved. This humidifier is much smaller than I expected; the tank needs to be refilled morning and night versus my previous model that could run for an entire day. I use this unit in my bedroom which is a smaller room and It doesn't seem to moisturize the room as well. It is also much louder and has a more forceful emission of mist which took a while to get used to. The unit itself is much more attractive and easier to clean which is a plus.

We have been feverishly searching for a cool-mist humidifier and we really struck out with this one. Although it is nice that it's adjustable and does not spray mist that can settle on surfaces, it is really, really noisy even on the lowest setting and it bothered us greatly.

Also hated the complicated multi-step vinegar-and-bleach cleaning routine we were supposed to begin with and then practice once a week.

Not recommended.

Paradigm PSH 2 Humidifier 50 Cigars

Paradigm PSH 2 Humidifier 50 CigarsThis is a fantastic product and a great value for the money. I have only had to recharge this once in 2 months and the humidity in my humidor was too low when I installed this Paradigm System. I would highly recommend this product to all cigar lovers!

Wow! The humidifier works amazingly well! I've tried using PG solution in various humidification systems, using the crystal gels and beads, basically everything! Always had a hard time keeping my humidor at consistent humidity. Once I charged the humidifier and placed it in the humidor, its been consistently at 68-70% RH! Pretty awesome that the unit is relatively small and takes up virutally no space, unlike the jars that most of the crystal gels are contained in... leaves more room for my precious cigars! Awesome product. I am glad I decided to make this purchase.

Honeywell H14006 Replacement Filter for Eureka DCF- 4 Filter

Honeywell H14006 Replacement Filter for Eureka DCF- 4 FilterI would recommend this product. I found it to be good quality and the price was quite a bit cheaper than other filters.

I find that replacing these dust cup filters periodically is indispensable for keeping bagless vacuum cleaners running for a very long time. I change this filter once a year on my nine-year old Eureka 5550A Maxima Upright Bagless Vacuum and it is still hamming away happily.

While it is possible to clean these filters (they are supposed to be washable), over time they get so packed with fine dust that you need to replace them. Good thing these are relatively cheap. However, they are not readily available at local stores, considering they are for models of vacuum cleaners that are pretty old and out of production. So, for many of us, Amazon is the only place to get these for a good price.

About how these filters are named: GE 61770, DCF-4, and DCF-18 are the same thing, as far as I can tell. Whatever you can find the cheapest on Amazon, just get that one. I usually put the model of my vacuum in search "5550A" and I get plenty of options. I hope you will find this info helpful.

Happy cleaning!

This filter was an excellet replacement for the factory filter. It fits like a glove and collects dust and materials as advertised. We found that when the filter does get dirty, it can be vacuumed externally and becomes fully viable again. The vacuum does not have suction problems other than normal loss as the filter fills. Once externally vacuumed suction is restored. We think this is a lot of bang for the buck!

BestAir D11-C Duracraft Replacement Wick FilterA filter isn't a complicated endeavor, so it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. That's why I like these. I bought a size too big accidentally, but cut it down to about half and its works just fine.

Excellent price, good quality.

Completely sufficient. Not too much to say, it's a humidifier "filter" replacement. It wicks the water up into a mesh structure that allows the air passing over it to provide humidity to the room.

350 cc Bubble Humidifier - Dry

350 cc Bubble Humidifier - DryI have a nice quiet Everflo Oxygen Concentrator, but it was hard to tell since all I could hear was the water bubbling in the humidifier bottle. I got this bubble humidifier after my 3rd generic bubble humidifier replacement in a short time, they kept cracking; the water would drain all over the floor and I didn't know right away that I wasn't getting enough oxygen until I felt sick. I decided to investigate other products.

I have been using Salter tubing, swivel connectors & nasal canulas and saw their bubble humidifier. Right away some things made sense, for instance water kept going up the tubing and into my nose, very unpleasant; they call it rain out because of the dome lid design, rain out is minimized. The "connecting tower design" increases resistance to damage and seems much stronger than my no name bottle. Also, I had to constantly wipe my nose with my previous humidifier, but with the Salter Labs bubble humidifier hydrates my breathing passages but doesn't overdo it. It's almost like the water droplets are much smaller. The icing on the cake is that this bottle is so much quieter!

I plan to be using only these from now on!

Essick Air EP9 500 Whole House Evaporative Digital Pedestal Humidifier, Nutmeg

Essick Air EP9 500 Whole House Evaporative Digital Pedestal Humidifier, NutmegThis is a very nice looking unit. It runs very quietly at it's lowest fan speed and can put out a lot of moisture at it's highest (10) speed. The only drawback we have had is that it is difficult to see the water level. At first we overfilled the unit and had about a quart of water overflow onto our carpeting. At that point we started taking the unit apart (it is 2 pieces) by lifting the outer shell off. We then learned to just use a flashlight to look into the tank with the front filler door open. It comes with an attachment that fits the filler door when open to extend the opening, but we do not use it. It is a lot more convenient to fill versus pulling the tanks out of our old unit. Would buy again.

My ex is a humidifier person, so I learned from the best. This is a sweet humidifier. Nice and seemingly accurate and well engineered controls, nice marble top and perfect for my purpose. Gets loud once you get into level 5-10. Level 1 is quiet and gets my 12 x 16 master bedroom about 55% (I'm in uber-dry Las Cruces, NM too...) Worth the $.

Extech PH110 Waterproof ExStik pH Meter

Extech PH110 Waterproof ExStik pH MeterGood:

The PH110 is accurate and cheap. I am able to get repeatable flavor and texture when I make cheese, because I can hit all my markers.

Bad:

The PH110 requires fiddling every time I want to use it. It requires at least one calibration when I take it out of the cabinet. Then if I wait more than a couple of hours between uses, it requires another calibration. Calibration isn't difficult, but it can get pricy because you have to buy pouches of calibration solution. I put the solution in a tupperware bowl and reuse it for a day or two.

Ugly:

A couple of times, I had to remove the batteries to reset it because it locked up during a calibration.

I bought this to use for cheese making, and it has fulfilled all my expectations, including the ability to check the pH of the cheese itself, rather than just the whey as most other meters are limited to.

I can only hope that it will prove as reliable in the long run as it has in the short run, providing reliable information to 2 decimal points, which comes in very handy.

I love it and would recommend it to anyone needing such accuracy and reliability.

This meter did not calibrate, even after following the troubleshooting instructions directly from Extech's website. I turned the meter upside downand tapped on the tip with the pad of my finger and the glass on the tip broke. I didn't know glass could be this thin (it broke) not durable in any way shape or form. Not sure what environment this was designed for but certainly not mine. I shipped it back for a refund. If you ever dropped this it would surely break the glass.

Hamilton Beach True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner

Hamilton Beach 04383 True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner, WhiteA brief video of the sounds of this air purifier at different speeds.

Overall, works well as many have stated. Hope this helps. Peace.

I bought this product for my son. He's eight years old and suffers from allergies. He woke up every morning sneezing, and with a stuffy nose. I was looking for an alternative to giving him allergy medication every day. We keep it on the desk, right next to his bed. It's incredibly quiet and it has helped his allergies a lot. After about a month of constant use on the medium setting, I vacuumed the filter. It was filty. I was very impressed with how much dust it pulled from the air.

Buy Hamilton Beach True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner Now

Our daughter has allergies and we've tried several different air purifiers. This is by far the best we've tried. It is much quieter than others, compact size, the filter is permanent, and it works great. We are getting another one for another room.

Read Best Reviews of Hamilton Beach True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner Here

I received my item (though late, Thanks Amazon), and apparently all my research into an air cleaner has paid off. This little guy does exactly what it says and works like a charm.

Here's why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat's litter box. Normally, it doesn't smell, but about the day it's time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I don't want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Anyway, this air cleaner is so quiet on Whisper Mode that I literally cannot hear it. I even put it in my roommate's bedroom, just to see if she realized it was in there, before moving it to its final destination. She had no clue.

The model has 3 speeds, but the Whisper Mode is fine for continuous daily use. Sure, you can turn it up, and you'll hear it's low whirrrrrr, but that's to be expected.

Another reason I bought it is that it IS a HEPA quality cleaner. But I don't have to buy replacement filters--ever. This one has a "permanent" filter, which I didn't even know existed. To clean it, it says about once every 6 months to just use your hose and brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner and suck it out. Really? That's awesome! Why don't ALL HEPA filters do this. That feels like such a waste. I'm not allergic to anything, but my purpose for this is to keep the area near my kitty box smelling like air, and not horrid ammonia. Cats are so gorgeous, but like newborn babies, they sure can produce some of the foulest smells!

So: I am in love with this baby. Thanks Hamilton Beach!

Want Hamilton Beach True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner Discount?

Wanted a small appliance like this air purifier to use in seperate bedrooms to stop dust/pollen/dander/dust mite poop or whatever debris lingers in the air from being inhaled during my loved ones sleep, this one works great and appears to really remove debris from the air. I am sure that higher priced air purifiers with expensive replacement filters work much better but we did not want to pay $$$ plus $$ for replacement filters three or four times a year.

On low the fan can barely be heard, medium is like a normal fan noise and is not bothersome at all (all of us stated we actually enjoy this white background noise), high would be too loud for most sleepers. Each of us that has one in their bedroom merely turns it on high an hour before bed, then turn it to medium for actual sleep time.

Can be layed on its side or stood straight up which is a nice choice to have based upon personal preference.

Filter is easy to remove and clean, just wish HB would have made the material surrounding the filter a bit more sturdy as it is just thin cardboard so you have to be careful not to damage it when cleaning. I use the brush attachment on my vacuum cleaner and it works great. I highly doubt this filter would be permanent like HB claims after many repeated cleanings so we expect to replace it every couple of years just for good measure!

Overall I gave it 5 stars but it surely would not compete with a much more expensive winix or austinaire, regardless, IMHO, it is an exceptional value for the price.

Edited to add: FYI, to dramatically enhance the effectiveness of this unit, go to a Lowe's or Home Depot type store and purchase a sheet (hammock filter) of the 3M filtrete filters (about $18 bucks, the good ones, the type used to put over window airconditioners to trap allergens/dust). Cut a square large enough to put above/over the permanent filter on this unit, the filtrete filter then takes most of the particles before it even hits this unit's permanent filter. I have done this for 4 months, it does not damage or negatively affect the unit's motor and you will be amazed how much stuff these little units take out of the air (with two filters, a filtrete one and the one that comes with the unit). Best part of all, after two months, merely discard the 3M homemade filter and replace it with a new cut-out. I also discovered that I can merely lightly tap the unit's permanent filter on a hard surface outside and it is ready to go for an other two months. I think you could get about 16-18 cut-outs per sheet at $18 per sheet, it is enough to last 32-36 months (approx 6 dollars a year).

I use this puck as a adjustment to large humidors. my primary source of humidity is nano beads, and I have one of these gel puck in each box as well. they work for about a year and occasionally discolor, but for 8 bucks & free freight they're not bad. I've found that they need to be recharged ever 3-4 weeks.

The humidifier has a magnet installed underneath, and includes a circular metal plate with a sticky pad. This allows you to install the humidifier in the lid of your humidor but still easily remove it for refilling.

In my moderate sized humidor (described as 25-40 cigar capacity) this humidifier balanced out at 62% humidity after 48 hours, using distilled water and a digital thermometer/hygrometer. Going on 10 days now and I can clearly see the crystals starting to dry out and separate again. I estimate I will need to fill it again at the 2 week mark as noted in the instructions.

Overall much better than the stock sponge humidifier, well worth the cost.

I had the sponge type and it worked until it started leaking. I was at 72% most of the time according to my Caliber 3 digital hygrometer. I bought this to replace it. Doesn't keep it even above 60%. So I guess these are hit and miss. I even sponged it down one more time after this didn't work, still doesn't work properly. Also this product is not a Madelaine product it is made by IQ which is the same brand as the one that started leaking.
