Plaston International Corp. Air-O-Swiss 7533 Deminral Granules Pk/3
All this being said, I'm writing this review to underscore an option that the instruction manual mentioned, and which I've learned to swear by. USE DISTILLED WATER in the reservoir. It's 59 cents a gallon or cheaper at your local giant-grocer. No white powder whatsoever, and you never have to clean the tank with Air-O-Swiss's gimmicky powder cleaners. Using distilled water, you can just unscrew the water-purifying cylinder from the reservoir cap and throw it in the garbage (or, if you're hate throwing anything out, just put back in the box which you most likely saved and are keeping in the basement). I'm a lawyer and a skeptic by nature, and I don't think that the "purifying beads" do anything substantive. Even a fresh filter leaves that white powder. Frankly, I think that the money saved in not buying the company's custom-designed external expenses is far outweighed by the money spent on "fancy" distilled water. I can't help but think of the cost of printer ink when I think of these water filters; you buy the base unit (printer/humidifier) for a good deal, not realizing how much more money you will be forking over in the maintenance of the darn thing.
This is a humidifier, after all, not a life-support machine. There are two options; dealing with the vaguely annoying white powder, or spending a little extra money on something that will avoid the nuisance of cleaning up the white powder. Personally, I prefer spending my money on store-bought distilled water than some chemically questionable "white beads" (what are they made out of, anyway?? Are they recyclable? Is there any data on how much these bead actually "purify" the water? And does the production of these beads use non-renewable resources? Don't ask Air-O-Swiss...they won't tell you). On the other hand, I know how distilled water is made. And I can tell you from personal experience that using distilled water keeps the humidifier in tip-top, brand-new-looking shape. When the "clean" light on my unit comes on, I just reset without thinking. There's nothing to clean. You could use distilled water for years and still have less buildup than one or two uses of regular tap water (filtered or otherwise, I would argue).
Well, enough of my ranting and raving in favor of distilled water. I think I've made my feelings clear. In response to the reviews from members who complained about the high cost of filter replacement in their hard-water environments, this is my "perfect" solution to you. Take it for what it's worth. My air-o-swiss is sucking up atleast 1 filter every month. Recently, I bought the refill packs. Having used them 3 times, I feel that it was a wise decision. I get the same performance from the filter, for 1/4th the price.
As of he refilling part, I found it quiet easy. While emptying the filter, shake the filter in the trash can. Most of the "stuff" will fall off easily. You can wash off any that clings to the filter. Shouldn't take u more than 30 seconds to do this. When it comes to filling up the filter, I make a very small cut in the plastic bag with a scissor. This gives me better control on the flow of the granules. I fill up the outer chamber first and then the inner one. Any slight over flows, I wash it off.
All in all, it takes 3 minutes tops. Well worth the effort.

I agree that the cartridge was not easy to fill -the beads are a little tricky to get into the cartridge (they sort of stick to each other and to the bag they are in and to your hands, so it takes awhile to get them packed in). However, the cost savings definitely makes up for the slight trouble -3 separate cartridges would range from approx. $36 $45, while this package of 3 refills only cost $19.00! Well worth the extra 5 minutes every 3 months.

This cartridge refill works great with my humidifier and is much cheaper than buying the actual cartridge. Most of the white dust is eliminated, just be sure to soak the refilled cartridge for at least 24 hours. I only use the humidifier at night and have found that it works much better if you keep the cartridge covered in water when the unit is not on.Want Plaston International Corp. Well, I expected the humidifier to work the same way like with the original cartridge. To my surprise the granules are a totally different. First of all after the 24 h soaking period the cartridge was clogging up frequently and the humidifier stopped working. Shaking it up helped for a view hours but had to be repeated for several days. Now it is running constantly but it blows white dust all over the place like a very old cartridge. There is no indication on the packaging about the manufacturing date and I assume that this stuff is just too old. I missed the return window, because I ordered it to have a spare when I need it and not for immediate use. Now I am stuck with useless granules and have to buy an entire cartridge and create more waste. Very disappointing for a top notch manufacturer!

Boveda Humidifier Pack 69%
If you have a humidor then you need this product. It really makes life so much more simple. These things are an awesome addition to your humidor and they definitely get the job done! I couldn't be happier with the performance that these packets have provided me.
Just a note to prospective buyersMake sure you buy at least 2 packets. 1 for the humidor, and 1 more per 50 cigars you have. Exampleif you have 50 cigarsyou would buy a total of 2 packets. If you had 150 cigars, you would buy a total of 4 packets.
These things are easy, cheap, and they last 2-3 months. I highly recommend them. 5/5.

I only bought this once and it worked fine, but switched to a larger size for my tobacco and cigars. It might not have been what I needed at the time. Thanks anyway, no regrets.Product was received promptly and was as described. It works perfectly in my humidor and maintains the cigars around 68 rh, as specified by Boveda. Will gladly reccommend to othersThese were supposed to be the end all be all to address humidity concerns, but that was not the case. Ours were kind of effective, but we turned around and immediately started looking for a different option. Other option seems to be a working much better, but if it seems like a great fit you for, give them a shot. Maybe we just got 3 bad packs...Tuesday, May 6, 2014

The Hygrometer is worthless. The Humistat is a foam filled type unit. Humistat works well. Just remember on the initial charge do not use a 50/50 solution. 1 part glycol to 6 parts distilled water and it will hold 70% humidity for a month per fill. The actual Humidor is fantastic. Seals nicely. Provides a slight spice to cigars like true Spanish Cedar should. Just replace the crap Hygrometer with a good digital and it's a perfect unit. This isn't the best Humidor in the world, but you can't beat the quality for the price you pay. It's large and sturdy, plus it looks good on my end table. The adhesive on the included hydrometer is a little weak, but some crazy glue took care of that in a jiffy. I would definitely recommend this for someone who is looking for a way to store and display their cigars tastefully but doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money. This humidor is great for a first time humidor buyers, like myself. It's real spanish cedar on the inside that make your cigars smell and taste delicious. The outside looks classy and elegant, despite it being veneer. The humidor comes with a small humidifier and hygrometer. The sticky material used to hold the humidifier and hygrometer to the lid of the humidor doesn't stay well, so I had to super glue it on. The humidifier has a nice magnetic backing so you can remove it from the base and refill it with distilled water/propylene glycol (which I just use cheap rewetting eye drops). It also comes with an instruction booklet that tells you how to break in (season) your humidor, charging and filling your humidifier, calibration of the hygrometer, and how to store and clean it. The supplied hygrometer, however, doesn't have a small screw on the back to calibrate it if it is off, so you'll just have to know that it's off by 10, 15, 20, etc. Though there are those few minor deficiencies, the price offsets them. If you're a first time humidor buyer, you don't want to spend a lot of money, and you're not sure what to buy, I highly recommend this model.Good item for the price but hygrometer is somewhat cheap but replacing it with a better one it works just fine.Saturday, April 26, 2014
Optimus U-32010 3.0 Gallon Warm Mist Humidifier with Wicking Vapor System
I live in Colorado where sometimes it seems like we have negative humidity. This little machine makes it comfortable to be inside our apartment, easier on the kids and my wife and I for breathing, and it doesn't have an expensive and unreliable filter/wick to change like our old Holmes unit did. To put it bluntly, this humidifier kicks our old humidifiers rear end. Plus it's about 1/3 the size and much MUCH quieter. It's also a lot higher in quality in both materials and construction.Pros: Good Price... Quiet... Sturdy...Easy to fill tank...Absorption Sleeve(more on that later)...Big enough for small to medium size rooms...Built in Humidistat..Easy to clean..
Cons: Finding replaceable absorption sleeves was almost impossible.
The absorption sleeve is a great idea. It slides over the heating element and it makes the unit very easy to clean.. And it makes the unit much quieter than other humidifiers. Because of mineral build-up on the heating element with other humidifiers I've owned they would need to be fully cleaned after every 2-3 times of use. But with this Optimus most of the minerals builds up on the absorption sleeve, not the heating element.. I clean the sleeve every 2-3 times of use, which is a breeze. It just slides off and I clean it with running water, then slide it back on.. The heating element still needs to be fully cleaned, BUT not nearly as often as with other warm mist humidifier.. Because of the sleeve there is much less maintenance..
But damn, good luck finding sleeve replacements. And they probably will need to be replaced once a year or so..Amazon doesn't have them.. Nor does Optimus. Fortunately Optimus makes the same exact humidifier for Kenmore. And of course Kenmore/Sears doesn't have them either, BUT I found the sleeves on Ebay under the Kenmore part number, NOT the Optimus part number. A 3 pack for about $10.. So I'm all set for the next few years.
Anyway besides that this humidifier is top of the line. Easily worth the money.

I will admit that I was a bit dismayed at first when I set it up because it only worked for a few minutes and then the light for low water level came on even though it was full of water. I actually thought I have to send it back, but as a last resort I put it on a cookie sheet and it seems the surface I had it on was the problem (not level enough). Since then I have been very impressed, with a little practice I can get the humidity where I want it and the water will last for quite awhile. Also, maintenance on this thing is a breeze compared to other humidifiers I have owned. I am very happy and if I need a replacement I hope I can find one like this.Read Best Reviews of Optimus U-32010 3.0 Gallon Warm Mist Humidifier with Wicking Vapor System Here
I've had a popular brand cold air humidifier and I wasn't happy with it. It never seemed to actually increase humidity in my home, and the $20 filter needed changing every 2 weeks because it would become covered in mold. This humidifier works great. I notice a major difference in humidity and the filter can just be rinsed every few days without needing to be changed.Want Optimus U-32010 3.0 Gallon Warm Mist Humidifier with Wicking Vapor System Discount?
Mine has a defect in float sensor and didn't stop even there is no water. As a result, bottom plate and absorption sleeve melt. If I didn't notice that, it could cause a fire.
For the rest, this is a great humidifier.
Operates very quietly, can be used in a bed room.
Has a Humidistat.
Handles on both top and bottom side of tank, provide easy refilling.

Hunter 31004 Ultrasonic Small Room Humidifier
Being small, it's so easy to fill and handle. No heavy container to turn upside down when it's full of water. I love not having a filter to buy. I highly recommend it.

I bought this hoping it would be low maintenance and QUIET. All that and more. No maintenance, no filter. Works great in the bedroom, so quiet. All you hear is a minimal amount of water gurgling, not enough to keep you awake. LOVE IT.Read Best Reviews of Hunter 31004 Ultrasonic Small Room Humidifier Here
It's a simple design pour the water in the reservoir and let the ultrasonic bust out the cool mist. Adjust your setting from low to high output and sit back and let the room get some humidity. Unfortunately, anywhere from 5-30 minutes into the usage, this device is going to think that there's no water in its tank and turn itself off. You've got to shift it around and let air bubbles out of the bottom for it to start back up again. You'll continue this process until you've poured the water in the reservoir all over the outside of everything trying to make these bubbles escape so that the unit will resume functioning. I tried running it at low output to high output to see if that affected how long it would last before the bubbles would get stuck and render this thing useless. The output setting had no effect on it.
I returned this item. It simply has a poor design but I like the ultrasonic cool mist. You might hate ultrasonic mists. Even when it worked, the mist is so dense on some models that it immediately falls to the ground around the device and will soak your carpet within an hour. I turned on a ceiling fan though and it spread the mist around the room perfectly. Turning to a lower setting didn't really fix this problem (unlike how it DID fix in the Crane model mentioned next).
Summary: This Hunter unit is quite bad.
Recommendation: The Crane teardrop cool mist humidifier. It works perfectly totally quiet, simple and effective design, and most importantly setting the dial to a lower output allows the vapor to go into the air as opposed to soaking your surroundings. So I don't even need the fan on anymore! Crane is the best ultrasonic cool mist humidifier.

Having read the 5 star reviews, we bought 3 of these one for each bedroom. What a DISASTER! One just stopped working. No visible reason. The second puffed out white stuff and turned our flat screen white (it wiped off, but strange). Third one worked the longest, but there is a red light and a green light to indicate availability of water in the tank and it would be red all the time when full. YOu had to wiggle the tank on its base and it would realize there was water and start working again. All of them went back to Lowe's.
