Winix 50 Pint Dehumidifier (WDH851)

Winix 50 Pint DehumidifierThis unit is identical to the WDH871 with the difference that one is rated 70 pints and one 50. The first thing to clarify about that rating, and this applies to all dehumidifiers, is that it refers to the maximum amount of water it can remove in 24 hours, not to the size of the tank (which is a fairly standard 2 gallons).

I live in DC and have a beach house in Puerto Rico, which remains closed for 2-3 months at a time so keeping humidity in check becomes a regular chore. I've had and/or tested around 10 dehumidifiers in the last few years. In general they all do the job, clear the air of excess humidity, and they do this fairly effectively. The differences come in how they do this:

1) how many speed settings they have,

2) can the unit be set to run automatically to maintain a certain humidity percent,

3) how noisy are they (notice I don't say how quiet are they, all of them make noise),

4) how are they drained: bucket vs. gravity drain vs. pump

5) how sturdy are they

6) how easily can they be moved from one room to the next (not all wheels are the same)

This unit has 2 fan speed settings. At the high speed this is fairly loud. I'm not talking Rolling Thunder loud, but not quiet enough to keep in a bedroom or to have a quiet conversation next to it. I use this setting for when I'm out of the house. The low setting makes a comfortable background white noise similar to an area fan.

One of the things I like best about this unit is that it has 3 ways to drain the water: 1) manually by carrying a bucket (very solid construction), 2) gravity drain, and 3) it has an included pump that can drain the water up to 15 feet vertically.

The unit has an automatic on and off (or sleep mode) depending on the pre-set humidity level.

The wheels in this unit work very well. In other units (the Danby 60 pint and the Kenmore 70 pint) the wheels either broke or sagged so much that they were worthless after a few months.

Compared to the Frigidaire 70-Pint Dehumidifier (FAD704TDP), the Winix is far better.

1) it is better constructed, the wheels are bigger and easier to roll and the bucket handle feels stronger,

2) it includes a water pump (pump and hose for the Frigidaire add about $80-100)

3) it is quieter, particularly at the low fan setting

I don't usually do reviews but I wanted to on this product. This product sucks water out of the air like a champ. I had a damp basement due to the condensation from all my pex tubing and well holding tank. Now that's a thing of the past. This was very easy to set up and use. I use the automatic pump feature and have hooked it up to the condensation pump that my central air uses and it works flawlessly. That's a great feature! One flaw I found though is the built in humidity gauge. I set it at 50% but the thing would run and run and run ... and run. I took the hygrometer out of my humidor, placed it in the same room as the dehumidifier and noticed that the gauge on the dehumidifier is off by +/10%. I set the unit to 50% and the hygrometer was reading 39%. I set my dehumidifier to 55% and my hygrometer read 46% and it now cycles on and off to maintain that humidity. My suggestion is to make sure you have a hygrometer to confirm your desired setting will actually result in your desired humidity level.

First, the dehumidifier stopped pulling any significant quantity of water from the air after less than 2 years. Disappointing, yes, but not a huge deal because the compressor has a 5 year warranty. Or at least that's what I thought. Calling up the support line reveals the only way to get service is to MAIL THE UNIT TO THEM AT YOUR COST!!! Yes, that's right, there's no local-drop-off service options for a 50+ lb piece of equipment. I feel like I got suckered with a bait and switch. What's the use of a warranty if it's going to cost me $50+ to take advantage of it? I mean, why not just say I need to send it to China to get it serviced?

This humidifier is very loud and the buzz from the compressor is absolutely horrible. It does a decent job removing the humidity but we returned this unit as the noise level is THAT BAD ! We then purchased a Soleus Air dehumidifier and are very pleased.

CIGAR OASIS XL PLUS Automatic Electronic Humidifier for Humidor

CIGAR OASIS XL PLUS Automatic Electronic Humidifier for HumidorHave owned the Oasis XL for several years, dog chewed through electric wire to wall. Now, have upgraded to the XL Plus for my 300 stick humidor, and, voila, the BEST! Set it and forget it. The water reservoir is huge, have tried to fill it again after two weeks running, but it had remained mostly full. Digital light remains on all the time, but have been told this is normal. Set it at 71 and it remains at 71, with fan turning on only occasinally, as needed. Cigars nice and moist, but not too moist, just right. Do it!

Life is too short for cheap cigars !

So the last thing I want to worry about is losing my

small investment in my top of the line cigars. I have like

many cigar smokers struggled with the worry of keeping cigars

in the correct conditions. The Cigar Oasis has ended

all that worry for me. I have two humidors in two seperate

residences that I jump between. Both have a Cigar Oasis in

them to keep my cigars in the best condition. One of

the worlds best inventions for those of us who truely

love a good cigar in the perfect condition !

I replaced an older version Oasis with this one. I got over 7 years of service from the last one and, probably just needed to replace the reservoir, but I decided to go for the newer, digital version.

Like the older version it is a bit noisy when running, not enough to be a real bother, but I would think it could be more quiet. I use this in a 350 cigar humidor which is usually packed and it does a very nice job of maintaining a constant humidity. The digital display added nothing really, in my case. Since the unit is placed at the bottom of the humidor, and since there is some restricted air flow (good, not great design on the part of the humidor, still most humidors I have seen are similar) the readout on the Oasis is indicative of where it is sitting, not necessarily the entire humidor. In my case, to get a constant average 70% humidity across the humidor, I needed to set the Oasis to 74%.

All in all a good product and I was very satisfied with the performance and lifespan of the older version that I had.

This is amazing, I never have to think about filling it, and it has been accurate right out of the box. I have a 300 count humidor and it has no problem

This humidifier is the solution to the too dry or too wet cigar storage problem. I put this product in my cabinet cigar humidor, and the humidity stays within 2 degrees of 70% at 70 degrees temperature. I highly recommend the Cigar Oasis as the solution to proper cigar storage.

Carter's Keep Me Dry Waterproof Fitted Quilted Crib Pad, White

Carter's Keep Me Dry Waterproof Fitted Quilted Crib Pad, WhiteI think I found the problem with the negative reviews. The main description is for the fitted crib pad. It looks like when you click on which color you want it changes to the flat pad which is a pack of 2. I think those are getting the bad reviews saying they are too small.

I have the actual Carters Keep Me Dry FITTED crib pad. I have 2. They are about $12 in stores. The FITTED one is awesome! I have had the Sealy brand and Circo brand fitted crib pads. HORRIBLE. Both of them shrink and the top pillsballs up after repeated washings. I wash this Carters one in HOT water and dry on normal heat cycle. It has never shrunk (we have been using it for 8 months). It is fitted tightly enough where I am not concerned that it will come off the mattress, but it is not a battle getting it on either. Don't spend $20 on a "higher end" crib pad. Get 2 or 3 of these and that will be all you'll need! They are super soft and add a layer of cozy without being think where you might worry about suffocation risk. I recommend them to all my friends who are expecting!

JUST BE SURE you are actually ordering the FITTED crib pad and not the plain pack of 2 crib pads.

UPDATE: Looks like they have changed the selections. The good fitted crib pads are the 52x28 inch ones. I'm not sure what the "deluxe" is, they didn't have those when I got mine. However my daughter is STILL using the same 2 pads for 20 months now, and they are still wonderful! They have not torn or shrunk.

We have had this cover since our first baby was born 1.5 years ago. It holds up great in the wash but I've only let it air dry. It fits comfortably around the standard crib mattress and doesn't shift at all even now that our toddler moves around a lot when he sleeps. It has been peed and puked on so it does have slight stains on it but the mattress doesn't! I can't believe I haven't had to replace it yet!

I actually bought this waterproof quilted crib pad for the crib mattress I use for my dog's bed. :) I have a BIG dog that smashes flat any type of commercial dog bed, so I decided to start using crib mattresses. Not only are they cheaper than dog beds, they have inner springs that can stand up to her 120lbs. The first few mattresses I bought, though, she quickly tore to pieces. With this quilted pad she's left it alone and the mattress has lasted for over four months now, still good as new! So if this crib pad can stand up to a 120lb dog with nails walking all over it, it can surely stand up to a baby! :)

This not your typical crib pad. It doesn't seem plasticky at all. It is very soft and washed up nicely. Wish I would've had this kind with my first 2 kids! You won't be disappointed with this one! Especially since it is about the same price (maybe cheaper) as the lesser quality ones at department stores!

These crib mattress covers are awesomethey are soft and comfortable for my 6 mo old and yet completely waterproofthey've already saved her mattress twice. I bought two so I can swap them out in the middle of the night when we have a leak (leaks by the way were drastically reduced when we switched from the basic COSTCO Huggies/Pampers to the "little movers" and "cruisers" that you can get online or in other stores). Now when we get a leak (maybe once every two weeks) the mattress cover does the job. The fit is great toosnug but not so tight that you're doing an acrobatic act to get it on the mattress.

Woodeze 5JW-31-685 2 Quart Satin Black Filigree Steamer

Woodeze 5JW-31-685 2 Quart Satin Black Filigree SteamerThis is attractive and the weight is right but it's not 2 quarts. I filled a 2 quart container with water to refill this and after pouring about 2/3's of the water in it was overflowing. Actual capacity is less than 1.5 quarts. I'll keep it but it looks like I'll be filling it several times a day.

Water Based Air Purifier Humidifier Aroma Therapy and Air Cleaner by New Comfort

Water Based Air Purifier Humidifier Aroma Therapy and Air Cleaner by New ComfortRecieved this product and it does not work as a humidifier.. It just spins with pretty lights..I do not recommend if you want a cool water humidifier.

I dont think it really helps clean the air, but it is very cool to look at, the water movement creates big waves of color. Also I put one in the bathroom for clean scent, and in my sons room also.

Air-O-Swiss 32838 Ultrasonic Humidifier

Air-O-Swiss 32838 Ultrasonic HumidifierWHEN it works it is OK. It has all of the defects described by the other reviewers. But they make up for the defects with rotten customer service. I bought this unit on January 31 07. Used it until the end of March, at which time I cleaned it and replaced all of the consumables per the instructions. I put it back in service two weeks ago. Six days ago it stopped working. I called their customer service. They use an out-sourced customer service group that will NOT talk to you, but rather, insists on taking your number and calling you back in the evening. Of course, they called back when I was out and left a message that they would call the following evening. They did not. I called back the next day and went through the same thing. That evening, since thay had not called by 8:30, I called them. This time, they insisted that I go through some trouble-shooting (all of which I had done previously). They then told me to leave it unplugged for a 1/2 hour (by which time they would be gone) and then "reset" the unit by pressing a button combination. I did this. The next day I called them again and got the same "wait until tonight" pitch. I insisted on an RMA number, which I received. HOWEVER, before they will tell you where to ship the unit, you need to FAX them a proof-of-purchase (their email address bounces back). The you have to wait for them to call. It is now 6:30PM on a Friday night and no call. So I called them and got their voice mail, where I was instructed to leave a message. So It will not get shipped to them this week. Next week I am traveling, so it won't get shipped until the following week, which means that they will not get it until after Christmas, which means it will be mid-January before I get a repaired unit. These people are total idiots. For a $200 humidifier, I would expect some sort of real customer assistance. Be warned before you buy.

UPDATE: Well, a month after I sent the defective unit in, I received a TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND MUCH CHEAPER UNIT in return. I am now on my THIRD phone call with these idiots and have yet to talk to someone who can resolve this problem. The right person is "not in the office" and will "call me back." HAH!! They NEVER call back. I wish I had never heard of these people.

I've owned this humidifier for a couple of months now. The features that I like best about it are: it regulates the ambient humidity (i.e. the unit has a humidity sensor for the room) when it reaches the desired level it automatically stops the mist; also it gives you an indication when the unit needs to be cleaned (pretty simple process); and most important the unit stops when there's not enough water (again a little indicator flashes for your attention) furthermore, the unit is very well designed and has a very contemporary look highly recommended!

I have been using wick-based humidifiers for the past few years in the bedroom. Last year I noticed every morning when I woke and I used the humidifier, I was constantly congested. I stopped using it and looked for another type, leery of vaporizer types because of past experience with white dust.

I found this AOS 7142....pricey, and I was worried about white dust...but I liked the concept of the silver bar to inhibit bacteria growth and the demineralization cartridge to minimize dust.

I have been very impressed so far. No lung congestion. No white dust....I live in the Dallas area.

Pros: effective, silent, maintained 600 ft bedroom at 50%; choice of warm mist (I think this setting works better, but more $$ to operate) or cold mist, styling, controls, full tank at full blast lasted about 14 hours.

Cons: filling water tank; it has a handle to carry water container back to unit, but none on the other side to hold the container when filling it....and it gets heavy. Plus the container cannot stand by itself upside down and tips over.

If it wasn't for this latter design flaw, I would give it 5 stars, but good enough to make me buy another one for my home office.

A very good humidifier, but with a couple of flaws. Very quiet, pumps out lots of warm mist at close to the 3.5 gal/day quoted rate. As such, the tank needs to be filled 2x daily if used full bore in a larger room. As with any ultrasonic humidifier that I've used, filling the tank can be cumbersome and, as some have pointed out, this tank has no flat surface to rest it on, making it unstable. But ignore comments about leaking, placement, etc. because they have NOTHING to do with the model, but more the style of humidifier (ultrasonic). Flaws: more white dust than usual with hard water because the filter has a design flaw. The washer seal on the tank plunger is supposed to double as a filter "anti-bypass" seal, but allows water to bypass the filter (it's undersized). Also, the humidity controller "hunts" on and off when the setpoint is reached, rapidly turning the mist on and off very annoying in the middle of the night. (For you engineers, there is no "hysteresis" in the control loop.) To avoid this, you need to raise the humidity setpoint higher than desired and lower the fan speed to keep the room level fairly constant, essentially turning the humidifier into a manual control model. (So why spend $200 for the fancy controls?) All in all, it pumps out humidity, it's easy to clean, it's very quiet, it's relatively easy to fill, the humidity is nice and warm (and doesn't freeze out the room), my throat no longer croaks in the morning, and my eyes aren't fused shut. BTW, we live in bone dry Colorado with forced hot air, and the unit is in a ~600 sq. ft BR with a 15' ceiling and adjoining master bath. It does the job nicely if run constantly. I would imagine that the reports about hard water being a big problem are right on. Still, for us: 4 stars.

This humidifier is great for programing humidity, fan speed, sleep mode, etc.

BUT IF YOU HAVE HARD WATER DO NOT BUY IT. It puts out white dust that will go all over your house. I have three Sharper Image Ionic breezes, on two floors of my house. I had to clean them every day and they were covered with white dust. Besides that; my furnature , TV screen, etc.were covered with white dust within two days. I buought a Honeywell with a exchangable filter that uses vapor rather than mist to humidify the air. This works great. Very little white dust. Half the cost.
