The machine never worked well. it soon started to emit a burning smell and we had to return it. total rip off

We have decided to purchase Viktor Air Purifier about two months ago. We live in Norway and ordered one through komplett.no. Once we opened the box, we noticed that it wasn't in a new condition, it seemed like the box has been opened before and that the back lid of the purifier was opened, and overall, it did not look like a new product. We ended up going back and exchanging it. We have received a new Viktor in about a week. We began to use it in our home and were enjoying its work, even though one of the advertised options was the "night mode", and it seemed that it will turn off the light during the night mode, but it didn't, just dimmed it .It has been working properly for just few weeks and then it began to make a strange, high-pitch electronic sound. We ended up sending it back for a checkup and after a week komplett told us we will receive a new one instead. So we went to pick it up and when we brought it home, opened the box and took it out, the back cover was slightly bent, which is not very noticeable at the first sight and one of the hooks, that holds the main filter was completely broken and just fell out once we've opened the back cover. After we plugged it in to see if it works, it just slightly lighted up but did not work whatsoever.

We are very disappointed, it is our third try with Viktor Air Purifier and the quality of it is just unacceptable for amount of money it actually costs. We had to go back to the store once again and this time we returned it, without exchange. It has been a very bad experience overall and we are very disappointed.

I have sent this message to Stadler representative first in U.S. and then I was re-directed to an international sales manager names Samuel Wyss. He has been one of the worst sales reps I have ever dealt with. After numerous emails back and forth trying to resolve the issues we had with Viktor Purifier, the customer service aspect was just horrible. We have been fed an idea that someone will contact us with further information but no one ever did, even after I persistently tried to contact Samuel Wyss, nothing happened. So from overall experience this has been a very long, unsatisfying, time consuming, stressful and just a horrible experience. Never again will we buy or recommend to buy any of the Stadler products, first because it does not live up to the standards/quality and the price, and second, very importantly is for the most unacceptably bad customer service.

OSKAR Humidifier

I must be crazy for giving three stars. Here is a brief history of my experience with Oskar Humidifier:

FIRST UNIT. Works fine for one month, then the "no water" light came on even when the unit is filled. (Memo: Do not order from "Wizard Electroland." Seller refuses to reimburse shipping even though the item is defective. Amazon kindly intervenes.)

SECOND UNIT. Order from Amazon. Happy to have my brand new humidifier. Fill gently with water to the exact specified point. Turn "on." Item does not turn on. IT DOES NOT TURN ON.

THIRD UNIT. Order from Amazon. Kind of happy to have my brand new humidifier. It works fine for three days. Then last night at 5 a.m. it wakes me up with a tisk, tisk, tisk, risk sound. Sound mysteriously disappears; I fall back asleep and have bad dreams about humidifiers.

I also must be crazy for ordering three of these, but here is why: It is nearly impossible to find a non-ultrasonic humidifier. The design and size are perfect for my apartment. Cleaning and refilling (the most onerous parts of humidifying) are easy. It is made by a Swiss company (used to mean something) and they have very good customer service. (I contacted them for more detailed cleaning instructions than the manual provides.)

I don't know what else to say. In theory it is the perfect humidifier, but order at your own risk.

I can't think of any product I've been more disappointed in that I've purchased from Amazon. This humidifier is all aesthetics and zero quality. For $150 you'd expect a certain amount of build quality from a humidifier, not cheap flimsy plastic that feels like the slightest stress could break it. The design of the humidifier makes it very easy to spill water if you bump into it, there's nothing keeping the water in the reservoir other than gravity. Most disappointing, the blue LEDs are slowly dying one at a time... I'm down to 3 left, soon I'll have no idea what fan speed or humidity level I have selected. I've noticed that the slightest bump can fool this thing into thinking it's out of water, which is a bad thing if you have kids or pets in the house since it will automatically shut off when empty. You could easily pick up a humidified for 1/3 the price that will do the exact same job. I may as well have burned a $100 bill... DO NOT waste your money on this one, anything is better than this.

We've tried a number of different humdifiers for our daughter's room. Most of them are loud, spew white dust (hard water here), are difficult to fill, and don't automatically shut off.

The Oskar, while more expensive than many others, addresses all of those concerns.

So far, I like this humidifier. I have two. The other is an Air-O-Swiss U650. The OSKAR is very quiet (though the Air-O-Swiss is, too), and since it is evaporative, there is no mist and no white dust (which the Air-O-Swiss does produce). The OSKAR emits cool air, which does seem to cool the environment a tiny bit, but that's not a big deal. I did, however, read somewhere that heating may do a better job of killing bacteria. Anyway, the OSKAR does a great job of reaching the targeted humidity level. My only complaints are that its features aren't that helpful there are only a few buttons, it doesn't tell you the current humidity level (the Air-O-Swiss does), and you have to remember what one bar, two bars, three bars, etc. mean (each one corresponds to a specific target humidity level). Lastly, one thing I really don't like is that it's very difficult to see inside the unit and to tell how much to fill it with water. It says to fill it to the top of the stick, but squinting and looking inside, it's hard for me to tell when I've reached that point, and I've overfilled it, which leads to flooding. However, I do like the fact that you can fill it without having to remove a big tank and carry it to the kitchen sink (which you do have to do with the Air-O-Swiss it spills water as I am walking, so it creates a mess). You can put water in the OSKAR without even moving it. Overall, it's light on functionality but looks nice and does a good job.

Sunpentown SU - 1051 Mini - Humidifier

I purchased one of these humidifiers last winter. At first, I loved it so much I ordered 2 more for my kids. We used them for 3 months and then put them away when we shut down the heater for the season. This winter, however, we've had nothing but problems. The first one started leaking water . (I suggest putting the unit in a shallow container if you have nice furniture, as this happens quite often.) The units were still under warranty so I contacted the company. They tried everything possible to persuade me from returning it. Their solutions to fix the unit were as follows: Clean the unit with lemon juice, only use distilled water, and empty the unit when not in use. I already do all of these things, but I have no idea how that will "repair" a leak. The unit leak so much that it stopped working. I spend $10 to return the unit. A week later someone from the company called to say there was nothing wrong with it so they were sending it back without doing any repairs. Needless to say, since they didn't bother fixing or replacing it, the unit still leaks water and doesn't produce mist.

When the first one broke, I started using one of the others I had. But after just one month of use, that one no longer produces mist. And now the third unit just started leaking water. I'm really screwed now because at this point all 3 units are out of warranty.

Initially, I spent over $150 on the three units I bought. I can't believe Sunpentown refused to do anything about the defective one I sent back. You think they would've replaced it just to keep a good customer. Take my advice: SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! THIS UNIT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY...AND SUNPENTOWN DOES NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY!!!

I travel frequently and, while working on a job, my old travel humidifier kicked the bucket. After much internet searching, I found this nifty little device. First off, it's MUCH smaller than you think-slightly larger than a large box of 250-ct matches. Insert a water bottle, plug it in & you're set. Easy to clean & carry with you, the thing I love most about it is that if it runs out of water, it stops on it's own. It puts out a large amount of cold humid air for it's stature, but unfortunately it struggled against the incredibly dry air in the Minneapolis hotel room where I was staying. My recommendation would be to run the humidifier all day while you're gone with the door closed to your room and see if that humidifies the space more effectively.

I initially purchased this portable humidifier to use at the office. It is extremely dry, and I had been getting dried up bloody noses from the dry heat. I was searching for a filterless humidifier, because I did not want to worry about filters get mildewy and gross, especially from not using it over the weekends and holidays. I also wanted something that would be easy to put away in a cupboard when I left work. I came across this Suppentown portable humidifier and thought it sounded perfect.

It has worked incredibly well so far. As an added bonus, I was easily able to wipe it out, put it in my bag, and take it with me to visit out of town family for the Christmas holidays. They have electric baseboard heating, which is extremely drying. I used to keep a regular humidifier there, but I was the only one who used it, so it needed a new filter every time I used it. This portable one worked perfectly!! A few family members were very interested in it, and my mom is even going to order one after seeing how great it worked.

The only thing I can think of that would make it better is if you could use a larger bottle. 16.9 ounces doesn't last very long if you have it on high (does not last through the night). I am curious to try a 20 oz or 24 oz bottle possibly one day. I have had issues with a couple bottles used so far. I think it is because of the cheap, flimsy plastic used. I have tried an Aquafina bottle and a store brand water bottle. Both could be a little difficult getting the adapter on properly. I did find a bottle that works perfectly and seems to be much sturdier (it is 17 oz., so close enough to the 16.9 limit). It is Talking Rain Sparkling Ice flavored water. I will keep a couple of those on hand at the office, home, and my parents' house.

I highly recommend this humidifier for office use, traveling, or small rooms. I'm not sure it would be the right thing for constant use at a house because of the water limitation. GREAT PRODUCT!!!

I've used this as a bedside humidifier, at home and abroad, almost constantly over the past two months. Overall I have been very happy with its performance. It provides a comfortable adjustable humidity while I'm sleeping, it runs on 110 or 240 volts, it's small and light so it's perfect for travel, and it's easy to find water bottles for it wherever I go.

But it can be a little temperamental at times. If the surface you place it on is not completely level, or the seal with the bottle is not quite right, it can sometimes leak or stop sending out vapor. This is usually solvable by emptying it out completely, repositioning it and adjusting the bottle and adapter (in the case of leaks) or by blowing forcefully a few times into the hole where the vapor comes out (in the case of vapor stopping). In any case, it is extremely important to set this humidifier in a dish or on a waterproof surface and to have a towel nearby.

This is a nebulizing cold-air humidifier; it pumps out a plume of ultrafine water vapor. The mist is humid, not wet, but more like sea air. It will make your sheets slightly damp if you have it on very close to the bed all night. It's simply constructed and easy to clean. A 1.5 liter bottle of water will last two nights before refilling, although I have found occasionally that the water in the bottle sometimes started to smell moldy after a night or two and needed flushing out completely. It's pretty quiet too, about the same volume a small fan would produce. It probably wouldn't be suitable for humidifying an entire room, but it's great for bedside, offices, small spaces, or for when you'll be in one spot for a while.

The light, which does not turn off when the humidifier is running, is blue and gives off the same light as a regular nightlight. It may be a bit distracting for those who like to sleep in complete darkness. It seems like it would be easy enough to cover the clear nozzle section, where most of the light escapes, with electrical tape, and that would probably fix the problem.

Despite its quirks listed above, I absolutely adore this humidifier, and I would highly recommend it.

We bought this humidifier and were really happy with it for five weeks. Then, one night, my wife noticed a burning smell in my son's room. Was it his new night light? Nope. The space heater? No again.

It was this cute little humidifier. It's cute, at least, until it emits a burning smell. One night later, I turned it on to see if it was any better and it was not just giving off a burning smell, but actually smoking, too.

Needless to say, we don't use it any more.

So, I'm a college student who spent this winter in an old campus house with an overactive heating system. Our bedroom was so dry that our door shrunk and we regularly woke up with cracked lips and nosebleeds. We needed a humidifier, but didn't want to spend big bucks on one that might only get used for one season. The kids' humidifiers are cheaper than the more powerful "adult" ones, and this one got good reviews, so we got him and named him Flippy.

He's pretty good at his job. We turn him on full-blast at night and he puffs out clouds of cool steam until morning. It's not enough that the room is humid, or even normal moisture levels (it's a REALLY dry room!), but he definitely does help. If you fill him up, he'll easily run for a whole night, and you can adjust the amount of moisture he puts out. It's enough to make a difference in a small-to-average bedroom, but might not be practical for a large room.

It took a few tries for him to really "warm up," so to speak, and really produce that big, visible stream of cloud, but after a few days, he got the hang of it. We like him. The only problem we had was that he has a bright orange LED on the side to tell you when he's on, and it was a little bright for us, so we had to cover it up in order to sleep. He isn't loud, and the little humming noise he makes is just a little white noise that doesn't disturb sleep or anything. I could see it being irritating if we kept it on day and night, while we were trying to talk and study, but it's fine for the night. We have a couple fans going in the room anyway (Did I mention our heater?), so it's not even the loudest thing in the room. It's quieter than a desk fan.

We just fill him with tap water, so he's developed some hard water buildup (I think?) that I'm not sure it's practical to try and clean, so that's too bad. It's not causing problems, though, so we don't particularly care. I'm sure you can be fancy and use distilled water or softened water or something if you're worried about a little white buildup forming.

I think he'd be fine for a child's room, or even immature young adults like ourselves. We don't need him anymore (not so dry now that it's Midwestern summer), but I'm keeping him around in case I ever catch bronchitis or something. Or for next winter. I think he'll be handy. And he's very cute, especially when he's on and the cloud is billowing out from his blowhole. I recommend Flippy if you need a little extra humidity for a smallish room.

My son loves this humidifer! It helps that he picked it out with me on amazon (he's 2 1/2 and very bossy). It's smaller than the Crane Cow we had before, so we fill it every other day. But because it's smaller it doesn't take up as much room, it hasn't spilled or leaked, it's very stable, the hum is pretty generic white noise expected of any humidier but it actually glugs less than our old one did, it humidifies well in a good arc, and did I mention my son loves it? He gets excited about us filling it "dolphin is thirsty!" and he loves turning it on and off himself. DAYTON 1UHG2 Dehumidifier Control,Plug In 120 V

I am highly allergic to mold. After our home flooded 18 months ago, our house became a mold haven. Even after spending thousands of dollars on environmental cleanup, I feared we would have to move. But installing a commercial grade dehumidifier, equipped with MERV-7 filtration, has mercifully kept the mold at bay. The dehumidifier is controlled by a Dayton 1UHG2. The Dayton has been working well for almost a year now, keeping my basement at about 42% relative humidity (RH), year round.

I wish the Dayton had a bit more operating range. If I set it any lower, say 40%, the dehumidifier sometimes doesn't shut off, since the Dayton doesn't reliably trip at humidity that low. However, 42% is near the stated bottom limit of the Dayton's operating range (40-90% RH +-2%), so it is probably working within spec, and at 42% I am suffering minimal discomfort from mold activity, and my utility bill is more comfortable, too. I'm sure the Dayton has more than paid for itself in electricity savings over the past summer and that's good for the environment, too.

The Dayton is a pretty nice little unit for the price (manufactured in China, of course), but it is an outlet hog. When plugged into the top outlet of a standard double or four-way outlet, the Dayton's oversized case partly covers the lower outlet. Some heavy-duty AC plugs (washer, dryer, etc.) do not fit properly into the restricted space remaining--surprisingly poor case design.

The Dayton's single user control, a thumb-wheel, serves to set the on/off point for the room's relative humidity. When the user turns the thumb-wheel, the display automatically switches to "set" mode, showing the current on/off point. The wheel is rather tricky to work, as the display soon reverts to "Room RH" two seconds after the wheel is idle. It seems to me it would be much easier to set, if there was a button to press and hold, which would keep the display in "set" mode till the button is released. I would gladly pay a few dollars more for such a refinement.

The Dayton takes perhaps 2 hours or more for its electronics to settle and give accurate readings. This makes it practically impossible to set it correctly at once and forget it. I find it requires resetting several times to get the room to the desired RH. I also had to experiment to find the most reliable lowest setting. All of which makes this minimal interface annoying and awkward. But once set properly, I haven't had to monkey with it. I used to check it every day, but have grown to trust it. Now I check it only once in a while. The Dayton's RH readings are within 1 or 2 % of my dedicated electronic hygrometer, which suggests it is reasonably accurate.

The Dayton 1UHG2 has its limitations, but at present, it seems to have little competition at this price point. Better solutions--though few so convenient--may be available, but at much greater expense. Perhaps the next generation of this product will offer refinements, but for now, this is a welcome low cost solution for dehumidification control in smaller homes.

If you have a typical dehumidifier that either runs too much or too little this product is the solution. It has a very tight control range, only about +/2%, and it really works. I now set my dehumidifier to the full on position and plug it into the IUHG2 set at 50% relative humidity. It kicks on at about 52% and runs until it gets to about 48%. I no longer have the musty smell in my basement that I had when I relied on the dehumidifer's own controls. I attribute that to the more tightly controlled humidity range. I also like the fact that it provides a display of the actual relative humidity in the room. This a great product.

I use this with a Soleus dehumidifier and purchased it because the dehumidifier wuns ALL the time, which is not what I want. This unit came to the rescue. All you need to do is plug the unit into a wall socket and then the dehumdifier into the unit; set the humidity level to a low level (say 40% humidity) and wait a few minutes for the unit to warm up, then the dehumidifier starts. When the humidity drops to that level, the dehumdifier shuts off. I'm not sure what the internal high limit is, but it is not too close to the set point since it takes a while for the dehumidifier to turn back on. I use the system in my basement workshop, to keep my equipment from rusting....seems to work so far.

The only word of caution is that you need to make sure you select the correct model. The part #'s are close and the controls look identical, but the model for controlling a humdifier will not work for a dehumidifier. I've already made this mistake.

We own several properties and all of them have some water leakage into the basements. We of course have installed dehumidifiers with hoses connected directly to the floor drains. The problem we are finding is that the controllers on the dehumidifiers seem to last about a year then the units run constantly or begin cycling. We've tried several other seperate dehumidifier controlers with mixed results. This 1UHG2 is working perfectly and only allows the dehumidfiers to run when really required. Haven't owned the 1UHG2 for a year yet so, time will tell if it can stand up to the year failure standard. But for now they look promising.

We use these to control fans in the crawlspace to help keep it dry. We have a dehumidifier in the main part of the basement, but there are several crawlspaces where the air does not move much. These allow the fan to come on when the humidity goes high and circulate the air into the main area where the dehumidifier takes it out.

If you have moisture issues in your basement or crawlspace, you need one of these for each fan.
