Crane Adorable 1 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier

Crane Adorable Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier with 2.1 Gallon Output per Day - PenguinA great little humidifier. Well worth the money for its functionality...the cute appearance is a bonus. It is not loud at all and really cranks out serious humidity.

I got the penguin humidifier a week ago after researching multiple brands, some expensive ones, filter ones, big ones, warm ones, etc. And I read the reviews about it leaking or breaking on this one, and essentially there was some complaint on just about every brand out there--always a few problems. So for the $30 this one cost (and the fact that it is ridiculously adorable!) it seemed to cover what I needed: something that was not expensive, not too large and bulky, smaller reservoir so more fresh water going through it (and less water sitting around getting ookey) and would add humidity where ever it was.

It has been running almost non-stop for a week, minus filling times or when we were out, and has worked perfectly. The body reservoir, even when running on high, has lasted at least 16 hours. I haven't had problems with white dust on everything like my old-fashioned gigantic noisy one (I use tap water), and it doesn't spray water drops out with the mist either. It definitely made a difference running at night in the bedroom--no noses and throats feeling 'dry as dust' in the AM. The penguin has a small footprint, about 9" diameter and 12.75" tall. It runs almost silently BUT it does make a trickling noise and actually sounds like our tabletop fountain. It's a nice sound during the day but wore on me during the night; I wasn't used the sound and I kept thinking it's leaking when it wasn't. So now I run it for a while before bed and I sleep much better all around.

Things to watch out for though... the reservoir opening where you fill it, there is a screw-on cap with a spring-valve (like what's at the bottom of your coffee maker basket). There should be a silicone O-ring that fits in the top of the cap. Our O-ring was inside the opening, and since it was clear-ish could be easily missed. The O-ring could cause the cap to leak if not seated properly and the cap needs to be tightened snuggly. When filled and righted (there's even a little handle to carry it by) it should only drip slightly out of the spring-valve. Check that nothing is clogging the spring-valve by pressing it in (before filling) and that the flap is not folded. Only use COLD water in the reservoir, and if you boiled water WAIT for it to be room temp before using. Using hot water could definitely cause this plastic to crackle and crack. The body must sit squarely on the 'butt' or it can dribble over the side a tiny bit.

We have had absolutely no problems with this little cutie, and if I do I'll update my posting. It has a nice rocker on-off switch on his 'left butt cheek'. It has a dial on the front (I'll call it his bellybutton) to adjust the amount of mist; even on high he doesn't drip. The mist dial doesn't seem to affect the fountain noise at all; i.e. the lesser misting does not lessen any gurgling it does. A great little design and it does the job!

This frog humidifier is wonderful. I'm so glad I finally decided to get one after reading reviews on it since last winter. Unlike this picture, the actual product is a true Granny Smith apple green, or some might call it lime green.

PROS

-quiet

-no expensive filter required. (my Holmes humidifier requires a new $13 filter about every 6 weeks)

-shuts off automatically when it runs out of water

-easy to refil water

-simple and easy to use

-cute!

CONS

-tiny green light is on when humidifier is in use and I persoanlly like a very dark bedroom at night. I just tape a dark piece of paper over it and problem solved. But it can also be a night light for a child's room.

-must be on a nightstand or some sort of elevated surface. Some people might not have that room to spare.

-it may be TOO cute and irresitible for little ones to keep their hands off it at first. But the newness wears off.

I purchased a Hello Kitty humidifier for my daughter on October 28th. It's been run and well-maintained in a the few weeks we've had it. Unfortunately, tonight the motor caught on fire. Thankfully, the smoke alarms alerted us and the fire department before a tragedy happened my seven year old was asleep in the room. I will be alerting the manufacturer and amazon of the safety concerns, but in the meantime, you might want to skip this purchase until it's deemed safe. I will not forget the haze in my daughter's room when the door was opened tonight for a long time.

The fire department confirmed that the problem was with the humidifier, although it was being used correctly. Hopefully this was an isolated incident, but please be wary of this product.

After my steam humidifier got REALLY hot & seemed to be dangerous, I decided to shop for a cool humidifier for my kids. The doctor recommended that I switch anyways, she says the cool ones are more effective for colds, the hot ones work better for asthma...

So, upon falling in love with this penguin, I ordered one. It arrived looking adorable & then I plugged it in nothing no light no steam...ok, that one definately didn't work so I sent it back. Amazon was great & sent me a replacement immediately. Got that one today, it WORKS wonderfully BUT it has a crack in the base hubby said to send it back because it might leak into the wiring. So, I proceeded to get the return label, etc & Amazon said they won't send me another because the problem with the item is more widespread than originally thought. I am downright depressed so my husband said he could seal the crack with silicon & we should just keep it instead of sending it back.

It does make the most wonderful 'steam', so light & airy like a cloud it feels good to breathe the mist & I know it will be very helpful when the kids are sick!

I hope you have better luck than I, it would be worth a return or two to get one!

I would give the working humidifier 5 stars but with all the problems, I comprimised at a 3

American Baby Company Organic Waterproof Natural Quilted Fitted Crib and Toddler Bed Mattress pad C

American Baby Company Organic Waterproof Natural Quilted Fitted Crib and Toddler Bed Mattress pad CoverThis is probably my 5th mattress pad in 3.5 years, and by far THE BEST. It is high-quality, thick & well-made. It fits on the mattress without any problem it is plenty big & the sides are stretchy & it stays put perfectly. It's worth every penny & I'll be buying more in the future.

I love this organic quilted pad. It's so soft and fits really well on my organic cotton mattress. My daughter likes to sleep on my bed so this pad makes her crib feel softer (closer to what my bed feels). I like that it has just the right amount of padding, not too thick that I have to worry when my daughter rolls over and sleeps on her tummy.

Great quality at reasonable price! Its more expensive but when I received the item I completely understand why. Love it so much I bought 2 more. Not only its organic, it is plainly superior in design, construction, and durability. I will not get any other kinds of pads. This is the one to get and certainly worth the investment.

I bought this pad to go onto a crib mattress for my 2 year olds toddler bed. What a difference it makes! It is so soft and feels wonderful under the fitted sheet. It is well made and washes nicely. I'm very happy with this cover and will be purchasing another for our baby that is due this April (2010).

I bought this crib pad based on the reviews for my six-month-old son when he was big enough to put in his crib (He was a preemie). I was not disappointed! It is of very nice quality and is super soft. It has a nice, thick padding for babies (without being too thick that it's unsafe), and has nicely protected the crib mattress. It has held up through a bunch of washings now without showing any signs of wear and tear. I have used other cheaper crib mattress pads, but this is by far the best! I would highly recommend this mattress pad above the rest!

Honeywell Replacement Demineralization Cartridge for Honeywell Ultrasonic Humidifier, 2 Pack, DC-102

Honeywell Replacement Demineralization Cartridge for Honeywell Ultrasonic Humidifier, 2 Pack, DC-102I wish I didn't have to use these, but the area I live in has the hardest water I've ever encountered. Even with a water softener the minerals remain and create a huge amount of white dust without these. Worth it if you live in an area with hard water and don't want to spend a fortune on bottled water.

Cartridges do the job to demineralize the water coming out of the humidifier. I don't have any complaints about his product.

Reli on Humidifier

Reli on HumidifierI've owned 2 of these over the past 3 years. The first was bought while I lived in a dormitory at school. It leaked one day while I was at school and made a total mess of the carpet in my room! The humidifier was sitting on the floor. I tried placing it on a rack and then the window sill. Each time, it continued to leak. Fast forward, recently just bought another one as I misplaced mine after college. This one also leaks. Water overflows the basin and leaks out the back. I come home and find my night stand and the towel (which I placed underneath in case it dripped) SOAKED. I don't understand. I'll never buy this humidifier again even if it is an affordable price.

We owned one of these that was great. Unfortunately my husband broke the water basin. Subsequently we have owned 2 of them that leak all over the place unless the back end is propped at a sharp angle. At first we thought it was because we lived in and older house with unlevel floors but that isn't the case now!

I don't understand how a company can sell a product that is clearly as defective as this. The humidifier has ruined my dresser because of the leaking water. Checked the humidity of the room with a hygrometer over the course of several nights and this machine made absolutely zero difference. Tried two different units. Same results. Bad design and horrible leakage issues.

Received this as a gift. I fortunately looked online before plugging it in, and saw that it leaked. Rather than return it immediately, I decided to try it overnight sitting in a baking dish, to see how serious the problem was. This was a very bad idea on my part; in the morning, I found that there was about a half-gallon of water in the dish, and that the place where the power cord attaches was only just above the water line.

Obviously, I have now returned this humidifier. In the future, I will conduct these experiments more carefully.

The problem appears to be that the water tank releases water more quickly than the machine can vaporize it. Because of this, the water level within the machine rises until it starts spilling out the vent in the back. This product should not have been put on the market in its current state.

It worked fine for about two weeks, then I came home one day and it had leaked all of the water out all over the dresser and floor. I returned the item.

Space-gard And Aprilaire #4100 Aprilaire Pump Rebuild Kit For 448, 445a, 445

Space-gard And Aprilaire #4100 Aprilaire Pump Rebuild Kit For 448, 445a, 445Although the component is exactly what's needed to repair an outdated, non-functional Aprilaire humidifier, and it fits perfectly into the existing space without needing to be modified in any way, it is ridiculously overpriced. For your money, you get the two-piece, snap-together plastic pump housing, a replacement plastic pump impeller, a plastic spacer, and a thin metal washer. All told, these pieces contain possibly a dollar's worth of materials. Although no instructions are supplied with the parts, they are easy to assemble into the existing humidifier. But, as with all special-purpose replacement mechanical components, you can't grab them at the local hardware store: the supply is low, so the price is high. I would suggest to anyone that needs this part to consider replacing the entire humidifer instead.

Shop-vac 903-40-00 HEPA Cleanstream® Filter

Shop-vac 903-40-00 HEPA Cleanstream® FilterI normally get the blue filters, completely clog and wash them out once a week. Comparatively, this one is much easier to wash out as it has some sort of teflon-like coating. It doesn't look as terrible afterwards either. Been through three washes and still looks new, I usually get 6-8 out of the blue ones. Will update in a few months with my findings.

7/1 it's still looking pretty good, if a bit yellowish. Still works like new, has been washed weekly since arrival. The teflon coating is starting to peel and flake as of last week. Might be because I leave it in the sun to dry, I'm not sure. Will continue to use it until it can't perform, definitely got my money's worth out of it. Normally by week 6 on the blue ones I would notice a noise difference in the motor of my shop vac due to it having to work harder to pull air through the filter. I have not yet noticed it on this one.

9/30/10 Still using it, still washing it weekly, it'll probably need replaced in another month or so. The white coating is really taking a beating but has far outlasted the blue or white regular filters.

I'd suggest the cheaper, standard dry-only HEPA filter in place of this one, unless you occasionally suck up damp stuff or small amounts of liquid. This filter is not a good choice for wet applications. I also find that this filter is no easier to clean than any other reuseable cartridge filter. It's rinseable but that sounds better than it works in practice.

If you are faced with sucking up gallons of liquid, this filter doesn't work well. Unless the liquid is very clean, the filter clogs every few minutes. If I'm picking up a lot of liquid, I swap the good ol' foam sleeve back on.

This filter does work well for dry pickup. No more dusty exhaust, a huge improvement over the standard disc filters. However, it's no better than the standard HEPA filter in this regard.

Someone once suggested using an old-fashioned disc filter over the HEPA filter if you use it as a dust collector in a wood shop. I find this to be a very good combination. The disc filter takes out the bigger particles of sawdust, leaving the HEPA to do what it does best -filter the very fine stuff. Otherwise, you will find yourself cleaning the HEPA a lot. Maybe you lose some suction with the two filters in place, but I really haven't noticed. The disc / HEPA combo would probably be nice for drywall debris and other stuff that has both big chuncks and fine dust.

I purchased this item to be used in a Shop-Vac that removes chips and wood dust from woodworking machines. The claim was that, vacuumed particles would simply fall off the filter

after the power was shut off. I hoped that I could eliminate the expense of filter bags. NOT SO. The filter quickly became clogged and I had to clean it frequently in order to maintain the full flow of air through the vacuum. I have since added the filter bags and have eliminated the filter maintenance problem until the bag is full.

I'm sure that the CleanStream is more efficient than the original filter as far as removing the finer particles from the exhaust air. I would have given the item a 5 if it had met my expectations.

It's a great filter if used with an inside bag. It will catch the fine dust. If you use it alone or with a garbage bag and a bag keeper, it will quickly fill up with stuff and have to be cleaned out. To clean it, you need to blow it with compressed air, making a huge cloud of dust. If you tap it as suggested you still get a huge mess of dust and it doesn't come clean. I tried it all three ways and decided to pay the price for the inside bag which catches most of the stuff being vacuumed.

This filter works completely awesome and filters drywall dust, fireplace ash, and just about anything else bigger than .3 microns (hospital grade filtration rating even filters viruses). Plus, it's washable!!! so you can use it over and over, or wet. This is the last shop vac filter you will ever by. Nothing gets by it.

Living Pure 8756 Living Pure 4-In-1 Heater and Air Purifier

Living Pure 8756 Living Pure 4-In-1 Heater and Air PurifierI purchased this heater to replace a Lasko ceramic heater which I have no complaints. The room I use it in has many windows and is over my garage that it not heated. Unfortunately this is my bedroom and it gets drafty and requires supplemental heat. The living pure heater heats evenly and I can use it at a lower temp than the Lasko. I enjoy the added benefit of the humidifier & purifier. It has made it easier to breathe and I dont need the ionic breeze and a humidifier that had to use. I use it about 6-8 hrs at night and I do need to refill the water tank daily. The timer feature is nice too. I dont know if my electric bill will be less but I am using 2 less products and dont use this as many hours as the previous heater.

I ordered this heater thinking that it would work great. Is it just okay. It does work and it gently warms the room. There is no fan, no air blowing out of it. Just passive heat. When you order it, what you get isn't a model 8756, but rather model 9000; so I wish Amazon would update the item description. I don't know whether a fan actually exists inside the unit, or whether mine is broken. I looked inside and cannot see any fan inside.

What is important for this heater to work, at least for me, is the humidifier. Water vapor carries the heat so the small amount of humidity helps spread the heat throughout the room. If you don't use water, then it doesn't feel like the room gets warm at all.

It is overpriced. If the heater was around $120 or so, that would be a good price. But for over $300 it is too expensive for what it delivers. If I could return the heater for a full refund without having to pay for shipping, I would.

I bought a Vornado heater that seems to work a bit better. Although it doesn't have the UV air purifier or humidifier, it actually blows warm air, which in essence is what everyone basically wants to feel.

I bought a similar model to this one from Living Pure.. Model 9000

Bought Three:

1. First one opened, then Power switch is broken

2. Open 2nd one, the top lid is broken where it is attached via screws. Plus the Side Door is not attached, popped out.

3. 3rd One, one of the four wheels is broken. Also the side door also popped out.

It was a bit difficult, but I managed to pop back in the side doors for both.

Thinking that I bought it new, I should not have a problem getting help from Woot (where I bought as brand new items). However, Woot said that they don't have any in stock to replace the purchase, and I have to call the manufacture.

I called the Manufacture, they told me that I have to ship them back (which is fine). However, I have to pay for the ship cost to ship to them, and also pay the shipping cost for them to send the 3 heaters back to me. Now, I just bought them brand new, and received them as broken items, I am really upset that I now have to put out additional $$$ to have them replaced (for all I know, the replacement might be just as broken one way or another).

If this is an indication of their confident in their product, I will never buy another item made by Living Pure.

(side note: Also, I would not buy any expensive items from WOOT again since they do not any responsibility for defect on arrival).

I recd this heater as a gift from my father, he thought it would heat my family room area with very high ceilings. It only heated the area directly in front of the heater. Also it appears this was not a new product because we found someone elses return information in the box.

The machine arrived DOA. The flimsy switch on the back of the machine was broken. I called support and they said they would only take it back for replacement if I paid for shipping. I am now trying to replace the switch to get it working. Needless to say, I am not happy and would not recommend this machine.
