Venta Airwasher -White, 5524536

Venta Airwasher -White, 5524536At low speed you won't even know it's on and it's still quiet at med. and high speed too. We normally run it on medium or high speed when the weather is 35 or colder here in New England and turn it down to low if the temperature outside goes up or it's raining out. Doing this keeps the humidity in the house a pretty constant 40-45 per cent. We have a Colonial house and keep the upstairs bedrooms closed so the unit is just taking care of aboout 1100 ft. downstairs. I fill it in the morning and just before bedtime. They only hold a few gallons of water, but what a difference they make. We have had hardly any colds since we bought ours a couple of years ago, and we're not constantly having to put on lip balm or hand lotions like we used to. Your skin will thank you for it. But wait...there's more...hehe...Wait til you empty and clean it like I do every 2 weeks. The water you dump in the sink...unbelieveable what this unit takes out of the air. Remember, it's an air purifier too. It's amazing to see the junk that's in the dirty water. Stuff you would normally be breathing in.

It's light weight and small enough to be unobtrusive. I had a problem with mine the second year...called the company and within 3 days had a replacement part that was a snap to install, free of charge of course. Fantastic 10 year warranty.

Proof of how much we love this unit...the day it broke was a Sunday and dry as a bone...temp in the teens. Within an hour I was home from Bed and Bath with a new unit. Didn't even want to go 3 days without one running. Now we run them both on low speed most of the winter.

Check out their website...commercial buildings all over Europe use them as well as musicians with expensive wooden instruments to protect. Little known product just introduced to the US a couple of years ago. Highly recommended.

My family owns two Venta Airwashers: this one and the Venta #5014436 LW14 Grey Airwasher. I am writing this after having used them for about two years. We live in a dry apartment, and we are also musicians with wood instruments, so it is important for us to keep our apartment well humidified. We are also sensitive to sound, so we need to make sure that whatever machines we purchase work quietly.

Before we purchased these, we measured our apartment to make sure we were purchasing the appropriate models for the space we live in. I think this is crucial, as you cannot expect a model that is too small to properly humidify a space that is too large, and vice-versa. This seems obvious, but I think a lot of people overlook this and purchase the wrong model.

I think people are missing the point when they complain about the level of humidity and whether it reaches an optimum level or not. Ventas humidify and purify at the same time, and once a room has a certain level of moisture, it will essentially stay that way if you leave it set to a certain level. It's not like it ill keep ramping up the moisture until you are living in a rainforest. It can only humidify so much, unless you use the largest model in a closet-sized space.

Regarding the noise issue with the fan, I found that when it starts making that subtle clicking noise that some reviewers mention, it is because the fan mechanism has lost lubrication. A few drops of light oil (such as lemon oil) clears up the noise immediately.

As long as you follow their directions--and we all know how much Germans love accuracy and directions--these will last a long time and provide and work excellently.

The reason I am giving this four stars is because I am convinced that they could have designed these with less hard-to-clean crevices. There are many hard-to-clean spots, and a few spaces that are almost impossible to clean. Granted, you won't see them as they are deep inside, but I like to know that I can clean every bit of gunk that I see. You really need to thoroughly clean the Venta every month or so, which should only take a few minutes, but there are an awful lot of crevices.

Another tip: the way to clean the rotating disc assembly inside the Venta is to use a soft brush, and scrub in-between the discs, and it can also be washed in the top rack of a dishwasher. They offer a special substance that also cleans gunk from inside and off the bottom half of the Venta, but vinegar works just as well.

Also, as mentioned by others, you need to use their additive in order to allow the water to sheet off the rotating plastic disc assembly. Some folks mention using a few drops of dish washing soap instead, but I haven't tried that yet. When you consider that other models by other companies require you to purchase filters and the like, I think buying a few bottles of this additive is not so bad. Each bottle lasts ca. 3-4 months.

Now the crucial information: does it really clean the air and humidify well? Although we have not tested our air with any gauges to see if there is a marked difference, I can assuredly say that the air in our apartment is cleaner and definitely moister. The air even seems to smell cleaner. Our wooden floors creak when we don't run the Ventas, and after a day of running them, they are silent. The truth is in the water: when we clean the Ventas and replace the additive every two weeks, the water is definitely filthy. The Ventas must be doing something right.

All in all, we have no regrets. These are simple, yet well-built humidifiers, albeit a little pricey. They are a little difficult to clean, but if you are even somewhat attentive and can follow directions, they should serve you well.

We have two of these units. They work well and humidify efficiently and quietly. I find them easier to clean than other humidifiers and like the fact that I don't have to buy filters that cost $20-$40 depending on the brand. I gave it three stars, because the fan mechanism seems to be poorly made. In both units the fan was defective and had to be replaced. The first did not engage the discs, while the second made a rattling noise. Venta sent me replacement parts without questions, however that should not happen at that price level.

It's of course bogus to point out the German social system as reason for the price. A free market is characterized by supply and demand setting the price. I asssume there is a free market in the U.S.?. What you effectively pay for in this humdifier is the idea and patent, not the material. It's the same why an Armani suite costs 2000$ and why Microsoft Office costs more than the CD it is burned on.

I have this humidifier now for a year. I am an allergy sufferer and dry air makes it worse. I live in CA. Thye humidifier extends on the principle of what my Mom always recommended: Put a bowl with water in your room. Since it does not heat the air you don't have problems with overheated air that then condenses on windows etc. The dryer the air the more it will pick up the humidity. It's kind of self regulating.

It does the job for me. I measure it and I get usually a jump from 45% to 55% of humidity in my room. I personally think cleaning is very easy. You have to use their cleaner, I do it every 8 weeks or so. It's true there will be mineral deposits on the air cleaner. I wipe them away every 2.5 months. It's not a problem as you can dissassemble this thing completely.

I think this is the best humdifier out there. It avoids all the problems of heated humdifiers and it's self regulation is ingenious. I don't believe it does a good job of cleaning the air however. That's why I have Friedrich B as well. BTW speaking of which it costs 500$ and is a set of metal plates with a fan made in the U.S.

True to form, the European reviewer praises the Venta's holistic simplicity, while an American criticizes the cost!

I have some criticisms of my own. First, the simplicity of design means no control over humidity level. If the water feels like evaporating, it does! The manufacturer claims a typical range of 40%-55% humidity, but for me it never even reached 40%. Like the American that I am, I returned it to the store for a less "elegant" model that just boils the water, and keeps doing so until you get to the level you want.

I also don't understand why a simple window to indicate water level is not included, and agree that -however sturdy the case is -it really, truly is just two pieces of plastic. This thing should cost fifty bucks, tops.

But I also agree with the German commentator about the effectiveness of the unit in cleaning the air. The room just smelled clean -much more so than with the Ionic Breeze ripoffs, or even some smaller filter-based units I have used. It generates only a very soft hum, it definitely is well-constructed, and the "natural" approach of simple, cold evaporation has appeal. I just wish it worked as well as the alternatives at doing its primary job, or had a price advantage.

General Aire 1137 Legacy Series Power Humidifier

General Aire 1137 Legacy Series Power HumidifierThe installation on this product was pretty straight forward. The only problem I find is when the water solonoid is turned on there is no "flow" control over the water going in to the humidifier media and there is a LOT of wasted water. After using this a month I found it DOUBLED my water bill because of all the wasted water down the drain. I have since disconnected this humidifer because I don't need to spend that type of money going down the drain. It would be nice if there was some type of float device that would fill up and the meter the water in to the media and be used instead of pouring water down the drain.

We have had this for two years now. It worked well in the first year as we saw a significant reduction of static in the house in the winter. We saw a lot of water drain, just like the first reviewer. The second year did not go well as I noticed the fan running and no water flowing. I had to drain the water line and take apart the flow assembly to clean it to get the water to start to flow. It has been trickling and I have to say it is not running like it did in the first year. I'm trying to see if a little TLC might help it along and we get more use out of it.

I've done commercial and residential heating and air since '97 and have installed literally 100s of these, maybe more. Truth be told there is no difference between this and the other powered humidifiers. They all work off the same principle. These are very easy to service and simple to install and are my favorite just because parts are easy to get. The media pads are available all over the web as well as most hardware stores.

As for the other reviews indicating the massive water waste, they are not installing this properly. Any central humidifier (as in mounted to a furnace) needs the control wires to be tied into the heating circuit on the control board. In fact, most newer furnaces if not all of them also have contacts for landing the 110V wires on so that it can only run during a heating cycle (usually marked "HUM"). Set up properly, this unit will not use that much water. Running this humidifier when the furnace is not in a heating cycle (not just the fan running, but actually heating) is a complete waste of power and waternot to mention how much faster you will wear out the pads.

We've had this unit for over 10 years, aside from changing the filter it's been maintenance free. A proper installation will include a airflow microswitch that turns the on the fan and allows water flow only when the heater's blower is on. If you don't have this then your installation is not complete and you'll waste a lot of water. During the spring and summer I unplug the unit, shut the water supply off to it and remove and clean the filter compartment which is easy to do.

During the winter when quests come over they all notice the lack of static electricity along with the fact the air just feels better and it's easier to breathe.

A/C Safe??? Pan Tablet

A/C Safe??? Pan Tablet
  • Use for air conditioners, humidifiers, or refridgerators
  • Cleans scum and other accumulations
  • Eliminates plugged drains and pans
  • Stops odors, overflows and water damage
  • Non toxic

My HVAC guy recommended these tablets to keep algae from forming in my system. I've used them for three years and guess what? No algae. The HVAC guy says that algae is one of the main causes for a system to flood and/or smell. By popping in a few of these inexpensive tabs, I'm buying some insurance against a mess. I'd call that a good deal any day. These tablets work great, and they are the ones my HVAC guy said to use.

I have a large through the wall AC unit that in the summer heat it starts getting a foul smell. After placing one of these tabs in the water pan, the smell was gone within a couple of days. Works good.

This is my first experience with a product like this. They can only be used in the drain pan, and if there is no water there they serve no purpose.

I assume they will be fine on demand.

I guess they work well we put them in a few weeks ago and so far its running ok..and stays cool..so i think that two works good..now we have extra for the next couple of years.

I placed the order on 4/17/2013...and selected 3-5 days delivery. Today is 4/29/2013 and I STILL HAVE NOT received it. I placed the order for 2 packets ($6.99/ea). This past weekend I needed to do maint. my Central A/C because I only have time to work on the weekend. I went to Home Depot (Houston) and I found that they sell it there for $3.00 / packet. I bought 5 packets. The entire amount INCLUDING tax is $16.24. I send email to this seller on Thursday (4/25/2013) asking for tracking information. They did NOT give me any tracking information!!!! Today (4/29/2013) they say that they shipped it on 4/22/2013.....so WHERE IS IT? I selected S/H of $4.99 (which is more than the price of the packet sold at Home Depot) because I wanted the 3-5 days delivery!! It's been 7 days since they ship and I still have NOT receive it. I called them (212) 400-7488 at 8:26AM (CST) and some Indian guy answer and they say that their COMPUTER System is DOWN and unable to check on my order. I DON'T WANT TO RECEIVED THIS ORDER FROM THEM....Stay Tuned for updates!!! I think this is a BOGUS COMPANY!!!

Vicks Waterless Vaporizer

Vicks Waterless VaporizerWhen I was still living in New York, my local pharmacist saw me purchasing this product and asked me if it worked. I explained that it was actually my third purchase. I had accidentally left my other two back in Texas and my son had caught a cold. After hearing my spiel about how it worked, the pharmacist dashed off to set one aside for her kids.

The Vicks Waterless Vaporizer is literally a plug-and-use product. Simply insert a scent pad, plug in the power cord, and choose your intensity setting. It goes from "off" to "III", with the latter being the most intense release of scent. No mess or fuss. At night, it doubles as a pleasant, low level, green nightlight.

The only complaint you may have is that, similar to the rub-on version of Vicks, it can burn the eyes if it is a little too close to someone's face. Otherwise, it clears your nose like magic and lives up to the Vicks reputation.

Oh yeah, I've since added a fourth one to my anti-cold/flu arsenal. My mom seems to be claiming a couple.

[I've also written a review on the Scent Pads for this product.]

When you are miserable with a cold and congestion you will do anything to find a little relief. In what seems like a forgotten remedy was using Vicks Vapor Rub on your chest as a means to open up your bronchial passages and sinuses. The problem was that a big helping of Vicks Rub was messy, it could stain sheets, and wore off through-out the night. Now we have the Vicks Waterless Vaporizer..... to see how it works check out the video portion of the room.

Notes -

The most important fact, is that it really seems to work. After each night I felt about 20-25% than the day before. Each morning I spent less time coughing, sneezing, an clearing my throat.

Use the Vicks Waterless Vaporizer Scent Pads (6 Pads) which is are not cheap, but not overly expensive

Provides 8 hours of aroma/vapor per insert I have used the pad for up to 16 hours, although you do see a drop-off on the second night

Glows green when in use

Three settings dependent on the size of the room.

On the highest setting the aroma/vapor will easily fill up a 400 sq. ft. room

Provides relief without the use of medicines

It can be over-powering, almost smothering if you have a dislike for menthol.

Final Verdict When I am sick the Vicks Waterless Vaporizer is now a part of permeant night time routine. While it may not be for everyone I certainly would not hesitate recommending this to help someone ease the symptoms of a night time cold.

I purchashed this when my daugther was less than a year old and wasn't sure at the time if it helped but this cold and flue season I pulled it out again and use it in combination with a cold air humidifier in my kids' rooms and the combination seems to work pretty well. I've also cheated by using my own bottle of eucalyptus oil on the little pads rather than buying new refill pads. With small kids, the eucalyptus is strong enough and so it works great. I can smell the vapors all the way dowstairs so I know it's permeating their rooms well. My three-year old daughter loves it so much that I'm having to buy her one for her room since I've had move it into her baby brother's room.

This is big! This is the model that sits on a table, not the one that plugs directly into the wall outlet. I just got it in the mail today and I am surprised at how big it is. It is 5 inches by 5 inches, easily. It comes with these little medicated pads that feel dry but that give off this very strong scent if you turn the machine on high. I did, and I had to turn it down, because I found the smell too overpowering. I tested it this way because several people said they had a hard time smelling the scent. They must have had a bad cold at the time because I had no problem at all.

Also, even though they tell you not to, you can use the pads that come with it again and again instead of buying expensive replacement pads, just refresh them with a few drops of essential oil. I bought a bottle of pure menthol and eucalyptus essential oil blend (with nothing else added)for this reason. And because I do not care very much for the smell of the pads that came with the machine (it is a slightly different blend), I put a couple of drops of the menthol eucalyptus blend right on the pad that is in the machine now.It is strong enough that I can smell it even in the next room.

As you can use any essential oils you want for different scents, in these machines, I also bought some empty pads from the vapor-eze website, as it is cheaper than anyplace else I have seen. These too can be used again and again. This way I can switch pads and switch scents (the smell of the oil stays in the pads so you should only use a pad for one oil or oil blend). You are not supposed to touch any essential oils but you only dab a few drops on a pad and you never touch the oil at all, so it is no problem.

This is a nice, cheap, aromatherapy machine. You do not have to use the pads that come with it and you do not have to buy expensive replacement pads. I am only sorry I did not buy it sooner as I have been struggling with walking pneumonia for nearly a month and am almost over it now. The machine could have helped a lot. By me, it is not sold in any brick and mortar store, so I finally took a chance and bought it sight unseen online. I am glad I did.

Germ Guardian TableTop Humidifier, Model H1000

Germ Guardian TableTop Humidifier, Model H1000It worked great for a few months, then the fan started making strange noises. I tried to clean it out using compressed air, but it didn't help. Eventually, the fan quit turning on altogether. Works well, but not for as long as I would have hoped.

I am very impressed with this humidifier. It is the perfect size for a bedside table. Easy to set up and refill. Has a very fine mist that lasts all night. Shuts off automatically when refill is needed.

I'm a new mom and I can pay for anything that good for my baby.

I bought the Germ Guardian H1000 Ultrasonic Table Top Humidifier month ago.

Love the design, not too heavy to refill the water.

However, after been using it about a month, one day, the red light came up at front, so it's time to refill the water.

I picked the blue toppart up then the blue light inside went off and I smelled something burning inside of it. I thought it was ok to use it without the blue light.

But NO !!!!!, right after fill the water and put it back. It's not working any more.

Maybe I got the defect one, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy it.

I would stick with other bulky humidifier which is a lot safer.

4-Pack: Boveda Humidifier 72%

4-Pack: Boveda Humidifier 72%Several months ago, I purchased several 72% Relative Humidity (RH) Bóveda packs to use in a 200-cigar humidifier. Each packet is individually wrapped in cellophane, making it easy to open the correct number of packets based upon humidor size. Bóveda recommends, 2-3 packets for 0-50 cigars and then an additional packet per 50-cigar capacity. My 200-cigar humidor was already seasoned at 72%, but Bóveda also sells 84% RH seasoning packets so I did not season the humidor prior to use.

For my 200-cigar humidor that was about half full, I placed six packets around the humidor. Having used multiple different humidifying methods in the past, I was somewhat skeptical that these packets would maintain proper humidity. However, over the course of about eight weeks the packets maintained a stable humidity of 72-71%. For my first refill, I added a seventh packet and found that the humidity stayed in the same range for almost eleven weeks. I should also mention that the RH only dropped a few percentage points around the two-month mark, so I would imagine they would maintain a decent humidity for at least several more weeks if you cannot find immediate replacements.

Overall, I was impressed with the Bóveda 72 packets. They are extremely simple to use and do an excellent job of maintaining a proper RH. Cost effectiveness would be my major complaint. These packets are not inexpensive considering how long they last and the number required for an average sized humidor. There are other less expensive humidifiers on the market; however, most require more than opening a wrapper and placing them in the humidor.

The individual packs are available in five different relative humidity levels: 65, 69, 72, 75, and 84%.

Bóveda packets are ready to use and do not require activation, water, or opening.

Bottom Line:

While not perfect, the Boveda 72 humidity control packs are an excellent, easy method to maintain humidity in most desktop humidors.

I have tried all the gels, tubes, and standard humidifiers out there. These are a bit more expensive, but they do the best job. And when they are keeping the humidity of $500 of tobacco in check, I spare no expense.

I wanted a simple way to keep a humidor at the propery humidity. These are the best thing since sliced bread for ease of use.

***Be careful thought, these packets are NOT FOR SEASONING a humidor. Boveda makes an 84% packet just for seasoning that 1st time, and then you use these 72% (or whatever percent you prefer) from then on.

I've used Boveda packs for over two years now with excellent results. My first experience was using a packet with a humidifying bag and I continued with that for at least 18 months with excellent results. Since then My collection grew and I purchased a humidor, which I seasoned with Boveda 84% packets and have maintained with the 72 and 69% packets. Boveda's support has been outstanding. They've taken great care of me!
