Heaven Fresh HF 707 Digital Ultrasonic Cool and Warm Mist Humidifier and Ionizer - with Remote Cont

Heaven Fresh HF 707 Digital Ultrasonic Cool and Warm Mist Humidifier and Ionizer - with Remote ControlThis is by far the best humidifier I've ever had. Living in a cold weather climate (MA), I need the humidity to counteract the effects of dry air. Otherwise, I get nose bleeds all the time. I took a chance when buying it as there were no reviews for me to read. It is pretty much as advertised. The 1.6 gallon reservoir has an easy-to-pick-up handle for refilling. The cap is a bit difficult to unscrew, so I put a lubricant on the threads to grease it up which helps. It does shut off automatically when dry/empty. It's very quiet and does not leak. I put it next to my bed and it doesn't disturb my sleep at all. It's very easy to clean. Use a little white vinegar once a week. Just put the ceramic nano-silver filter in cup of white vinegar for ten minutes and use a few drops of vinegar to clean the sensor. No need to buy new filters, cartridges, or mineralization pads. I have noticed a little white dust in the room, but far less than the Bionaire ultrasonic humidifier I used to have. The Hygrostat sensor indicates the humidity level. Not sure how accurate it is though. Mist output can be regulated: low, medium, and high. There is a button to produce negative ions. I use it, but don't really know if it makes any difference in the quality of the air. I have yet to try the warm air mist, so I can't comment on that. And lastly, there's no way I can get 60 hours of continuous use without refilling, not unless I want my room to stay dry which defeats the point of having a humidifier. Two nights is more like it. You might get 60 hours if you put the humidity level at low or at a desired level of 45%. I can't comment on how much electricity it uses and I don't know how long it will last. I've had it for one week and so far and I love it. I highly recommend it.

I tried this unit and filed for a return after one week. I bought the unit despite it having only three reviews. Now I question these reviews because they all gave five stars and I completely hate this product.

CONS:

1) The manufacturer claims "High moisture output can quickly humidify a room up to 40 m² (430 ft²)." No way. I have a 10' x 16' bedroom and I am waking up with dry eyes and mouth even though our outdoor temperature lows have only been between 33 and 57 degrees Fahrenheit this week. I had the unit on maximum ouput the last night of my trial. It would only be worse when our heat is running more frequently during the night.

2) If you are light sensitive when you go to bed and you intend to put this in your bedroom then this unit is not for you. It radiates blue light in every direction. There is a bright blue light bulb with the only purpose of shining through the water tank. It does not dim and I can't find a way to turn it off. The manufacturer's picture of the unit shows a blue glow around it -that's not for marketing, that's exactly how it glows. It's very annoying.

3) There is also a blue LED display that automatically dims a level after a minute or so but not near enough and there is no way to turn it completely off. If you put the unit on automatic to control humidity then the LED situation is worse because the word "setup" flashes FOREVER while in that mode.

4) Despite all of this irritating light there is no light where it might be positive: on the buttons of the unit and its remote control! I tried to crank the unit up to its maximum setting in the dark and even though I could see this bright blue cube of water in the room I could not read the controls. I had to turn on the bedroom overhead light which disturbed my wife.

5) From the same night-time-adjustment incident I discovered another annoying thing: each button press beeps loudly. The next day I could not find a way in the manual or through experimentation to disable the beeping for every button press.

6) There is no way that I can find in the manual to change the temperature gauge to read in Fahrenheit versus Celsius.

7) The company does not honor Amazon's expedited shipping policy... but they will charge you for it. I ordered this way and they did not ship to me within two days. I had to email them and then a day later I got a shipping notice.

8) This product is far too much more expensive than other ultrasonic humidifiers and for no justifiable reason that I can discern.

PROS

1) The unit operates quietly when compared to an evaporative humidifier. But so did every other ultrasonic that I have ever owned or observed. That's the pro of going with ultrasonic technology for a humidifier.

2) I like the promise of its "Permanent, easy-to-clean ceramic nano-silver filter for control of white dust, mould and bacteria." I did not see any white dust during my trial week, I can vouch for that. But will the filter last for a long time? I don't know. My bet is that some plastic part will break from handling the unit and the tank at some point and one would need to buy another humdifier before this particular filter gave out.

For now I am switching back to my evaporative humidifier. It's loud and it takes filters and additives to keep the water and air clean but it actually gets the job of humidity control done which is job #1.

We needed a humidifier for our lab and spent many hours researching different options. We chose the Heaven Fresh HF 707 for 3 reasons:

* Ceramic nano-silver filter humidifiers are magnets for mould and bacteria, so this is a must

* Built-in Hygrostat set desired humidity and it automatically maintains that level

* Built-in negative ion generator, excellent for cleaning and sanitizing the air

The first unit shipped to us was missing a part, and we urgently needed a working dehumidifier. We called the seller, explained our situation and the seller agreed to send a replacement by 2nd Day Air. The replacement arrived and worked like a charm.

It's hard to tell from the picture but the unit has a very nice digital display that shows the ambient temperature and humidity. This isn't the cheapest humidifier on Amazon, but if you look carefully all the other humidifiers have quite a few negative reviews. Buying a quality product is always cheaper in the long term.

Overall, we're very pleased with our purchase and the great customer service. Would definitely buy from them again.

I like all the useful functionality included in this humidifier. Auto dimming LED, timer, humidity-level control, displays room humidity and temperature (even when powered off, but plugged in, of course :-P), negative ions (though I can't say I felt it and I don't know the spec for the -ion output rate), and remote control. I find them all useful. I will probably also use the warm mist function when it gets cold.

Only complaint, when I set humidity to 65%, it can only push room humidity to about 59%. When I set it to 60%, it works up to about 55%. I use it in a small (~160 sqft) bedroom, and I usually leave the door open by an inch, but windows closed. I live in SF bay area, where humidity level is usually around 45%. Because of its laziness, it does do a good job of saving water. With this relatively small tank (easy to handle), it lasts about 7 nights for me, about 70 hours.

I've owned a lot of humidifiers over the years. The HF 707 is a minimally satisfactory product for basic humidification. The two units I've used have both reliably put out a lot of water into the air, which we need in winter here in New England. We use it in a 12x12 room, and regularly maintain 45-50% relative humidity, as measured by a separate hygrometer across the room (which I recommend you use, as well). The machine's integral hygrometer gives highly misleading readings and should be cross-checked with another instrument. The machine's integral thermometer gives fairly accurate readings. Both readings are thrown way off when you use the heating option. Like most ultrasonic humidifiers, it leaves a deposit of white dust on nearby surfaces, but somewhat less so than our previous Air-O-Swiss.

Order fulfillment is direct from Heaven Fresh, so I ordered direct from them as well. I ordered a black machine, and they sent silver; when I called to get the situation corrected, they explained that they had no black units and that's why they shipped the silver. (What happened to back-order? They seem genuinely puzzled that I would complain.) They promised me the black units had just come in and they'd ship me one right away. Three calls later, three similar promises, finally insisted on talking to a supervisor. He promised it would ship in three days, and it did -and it is black, but from a batch they received from their Canadian branch, so the temperature is displayed in Celsius, not Fahrenheit. When I called them, they said they were out of US models so they shipped me the Canadian. Again, genuinely puzzled that that wasn't okay with me. They offered (again!) to ship me a replacement -but this has turned into a too-long farce already, and I declined.

If you decide to purchase anyway, good luck. I'll be looking elsewhere for the living room unit.

Honeywell Tower Air Purifier Combo Pack

Honeywell Tower Air Purifier Combo PackI bought these two days ago. The smaller unit was for my bedroom and the larger one for my daughter's. She is a baby and has started rubbing her nose and eyes and is stuffy. So I bought these units in hopes of cleaning the air. In just two days I have noticed she is breathing easier.

A special note, the larger unit was loud. It had a high pitch kind of rattling sound. My husband pulled the filter out, messed with some wire or other and now it is whisper quiet, like the smaller one.

Good buy overall. A little pricey on Amazon but my daughter is sleeping easier which was the whole point.

I use one of these in a room on the first floor and one in my bedroom. They are pretty quiet but not silent. The higher you set it the louder it is. They really seem to help with dust and such in the air.

SPT SU-2550W Ultrasonic Humidifier with Fragrance Diffuser, White

SPT SU-2550W Ultrasonic Humidifier with Fragrance Diffuser, WhiteI work at a drugstore and could have purchased any number of humidifiers and gotten a good discount. However, I wanted one that was more stylish for my master bedroom. Also, I was very sick with a sinus infection and simply wasn't well enough to venture out to make a purchase. I looked on amazon.com and found the SPT brand had good reviews. This item in particular caught my eye because of the unique design. FYI it also comes in purple, blue and pink. I chose the white as my bedroom is white and turquoise. I paid extra to have it arrive the next day which was a Friday.

UPS delivered it around lunchtime on Friday. It was boxed well both from Amazon and the manufacturer. It comes encased in molded styrofoam. When I opened up the styrofoam my happiness floated away as it was half empty. The top air diffuser section was missing. Upon inspecting the rest of the humidifier I found it had been previously unpacked and the plastic bag around the cord had been ripped out so someone could get to the cord. Clearly this was a returned item.

I contacted Amazon online chat and they were very nice and offered a refund or replacement. I asked how long it would take to get a replacement and they said it would arrive on Monday. I explained to the representative that I was disappointed since I was sick and couldn't go out to purchase one and that I had paid extra to have it arrive overnight because I needed it right away. The representative had not been aware of this but when I told them they immediately told me they would send a replacement and it would arrive the next day. Sure enough Saturday morning around 10:30 UPS delivered a new humidifier!

Now for the second one. It contained all its parts! I was very impressed with the quality of the product and the stylish appearance. It really looks like a genie bottle! Initially I set it up on my kitchen to be able to watch it and make sure it worked properly. I used Brita filtered water and filled the tank 3/4 full. It ran all day on a low setting and when I took it to my bedroom turned it up to medium high and it ran all night and still had a lot of water left in the tank in the morning. Whether it was this humidifier or the antibiotics I had my first good nights sleep in six nights!

I found this unit to be exceedingly quiet aside from an occasional slight gurgle of water. The mist is silent at dispersion and does not spit or sputter. I like that the night light can be turned off and that it has a bright red "refill" button. I have not let it run out of water as yet so I can't speak to when that refill button comes on. Also, from reading other reviews on a variety of humidifiers I knew there was a possibility of water leaking so I placed a towel underneath. After running all day and night the towel is totally dry.

This unit is easy to refill with a removable screw in open/close knob on the bottom of the tank. I do see that this will be an item that needs some upkeep on the tank. You will definitely need a bottle brush to be able to get inside and keep it clean as it does have some nooks and crannies.

After only one days use I can say I am pleased with the unit. I will update as time goes by with further information.

UPDATE: I have now had this unit about two weeks and have used it off and on during that time. I have been very pleased with its low water usage, unique night light feature, and the fact that the water doesn't spit or splatter. I had a towel under it the entire time and it never got damp at all.

One note about Amazon humidifier reviews. Very rarely is there a five star review on humidifiers! Seems every brand I researched has its difficulties which I attribute to two things. The first thing is the fact that you are dealing with a small appliance that uses water. The second thing is many difficulties could be avoided by reading the instruction manual. This particular humidifier comes with a great manual.

I'm happily surprised with this humidifier. This thing put out A LOT of steam on the highest setting. It shoots right out of the top and looks like smoke billowing out or like those fog machines people use for Halloween. After a couple of hours, I could tell the air around me wasn't so dry. It felt like I could breath easier. We have a wood stove so the air in our home is super dry. This humidifier is attractive and I LOVE the added scent diffuser. I bought some lavendar oil to put into it and it works really really well. This humidifier will run about 8 hours on a full tank, going full blast. Its also got a blue light in it that you can switch on to use as a night light. Its easy to refill as well. I'd recommend this if you have dry air. Its a "cooler" looking humidifier than the run of the mill sort.

Update 12/19/12 After having this humidifier for about a month, IT BROKE!! I cleaned the machine out with a mild vinegar solution, didn't mess with any of the parts, and now it does not work. I'm so mad. Now I have to waste more money and buy another machine. I will never buy another thing from SPT. Good luck if you buy this. Mine broke so quickly and easily. Pathetic junk.

Buy SPT SU-2550W Ultrasonic Humidifier with Fragrance Diffuser, White Now

I've had this product for about a month and a half. After the first day, the plastic piece that holds the fragrance diffuser bottle in place broke. At first I didn't know what it was, then when I took the diffuser out to check how much oil was left another piece broke off. It does say not to turn too tight, which I didn't and it still broke. I only have half the plastic left now. It still stays in place but I'm worried that it won't last through the next batch of oil I put in the diffuser.

I only notice a higher level of humidity when I turn the knob to the highest setting. This uses a lot of water and it won't last through the night. I haven't actually timed it, but I would say that if you leave it at the highest level, in 4-5 hours you won't have any water left. I only have a 8x8 room and I live in a tent on a base in Afghanistan. My room is closed off with walls and a blanket for a roof, so maybe the moister is being absorbed into them. It's so dry out here I was hoping this would help keep me a little moist! I've found that if I put it on the high setting for about an hour, then turn it down to the middle setting, it will last until morning (about 9 hours).

I can smell the fragrance, but lately I noticed a sour smell, like it's getting mildew in it. I've cleaned it several times and still get the smell. I only smell it from the hole where the mist comes out, not from the base or the tank. The mildew smell overwhelms my orange oil fragrance. I don't know what else to do with it. Everyday I empty the left over water, clean out the little "mist hole" and let everything dry out. I still get the smell after about an hours usage. The water I use is drinking water, so it's not coming from that. I think this would probably work good in a kids room, if it's of smaller size. Overall, I give it three stars.

A complete waste of money. Used it ONE time and that's it. It doesn't work now. Quite frankly, I'm pretty ticked off. Do not waste your money on this diffuser. It immediately leaked all over the place, red light stayed on and quit working. I felt like $50 would at least get me a somewhat decent diffuser. Boy was I mistaken.

Well I wanted to love this humidifier but sadly it was returned. After the first use we noticed that there was a puddle around the humidifier and the aroma oil insert had a broken piece of plastic. So we returned it and purchased a different brand.

8GAL HUMIDIFIER (Essick Air Products MA0800)

8GAL HUMIDIFIERI have this exact same model under the name Emerson MoistAIR with a model number of MA08000 that we got from Lowe's about three months ago. It holds one gallon of water and does a great job in our open floor plan, about 500 + square feet or so minus one room down a hall I haven't monitored. It displays the humidity level and kicks on when needed. The unit is very quiet to the point that I don't even notice it when I am reading.

The colder it gets, the more the heater runs, the more I fill it, but it isn't using up the water at a rate that is bothersome or wasteful. The only thing bad I have to say is it's big and not the nicest looking thing in a small living space, but we only need it in the winter so I can live with it. If you have the room to hide it in a corner it's a solid mid size humidifier.

My wife was having bad sinus problems and her MD recommended getting a humidifier. We purchased this one at Lowe's and have now had it for 4-5 years. Within about a month after purchasing this and placing it near our return air vent, as recommended, in our 1500 sq. ft home, my wife's sinus problems were resolved. I actually can't believe how much better I can breathe in the mornings when I wake up with this thing running vs. when it's not running. We now live in a 1800 sq. ft. home and it still serves our purposes well. It goes through about 1 tankfull of water per day during the cold days when the heat is running. I just fill it before bed each night. It is very quiet. We keep it in our bedroom beside the return air vent (right beside the bed)on the low setting and most of the time don't even realize it's running. I also purchase Holmes Bacteriostat and add about an ounce each time I fill the unit, which keeps the unit clean and never allows any bacterial growth (which ruins your filter). I only have to purchase about 1 filter and 1 bottle of bacteriostat per year. I recommend this item regularly to friends, family, and my own patients.

I know there is a bad review out there on it as well as some other good ones but this has been one of the best investments I have ever made! For your health...for your family's health...Get one!

Buy 8GAL HUMIDIFIER (Essick Air Products MA0800) Now

We have the EssickAir Moist Air MA 1201. However, the pic looks the same as this one. This is the 3rd year we have had it.

Pros:

It keeps the humidity up really well in our 1200 square foot home, especially if it is placed near the return air vent.

With the humidity up, we notice less nose bleeds, dry skin, sinus problems, and bronchial problems in the winter, which we had noticed before.

It has different humidity settings and different noise levels. The quietest setting is barely noticeable, and sounds like a soothing "white noise."

Cons:

It is HUGE. I'm glad we only need it out during the winter months, because it takes up a lot of space, IMO.

The pad, especially this year (our 3rd year) keeps getting moldy! My husband is Type A, Obsessive Compulsive about keeping this maintained, as he is in the Heating & Air industry and is both knowledgeable and mindful of humidifiers. He cleans it thoroughly, per directions, before the first use, and puts a new pad in it. Usually we start running it in late October. It is December now and we have bought THREE pads already this year. One pad should last at least for the few months we use it each year.

I live in a small one bedroom house, less than 1000 sq ft. I burn wood only for heat so my house gets very dry. In the past I have always purchased and used two smaller humidifiers and it didn't do what I expected and I spent a fortune on filters. This year I went with a bigger model, I figured with the wood stove I needed something that put out more humidity. I love this humidifier. The tank holds a gallon, and the reservoir in the bottom holds a gallon. So it holds a little over two gallons all together. I run mine on high, with the wood stove it is necessary. But, this unit does put out eight gallons in a 24 hour period. It does mean that I have to fill it four times a day, but I am happy to do it. I suffered terribly with sinus problems, dry eyes and a dry throat every winter. Now when I wake up, I feel good. No more red eyes, sore throat, or runny nose. Its all gone. I am sleeping better and my son even noticed that the air was better when he came to visit.

It displays the humidity level and shuts off if it runs out of water. It's a good reminder if I forget to fill it because it won't run dry. It is easy to clean and I have had no mold problems at all. I do use the water treatment that is recommended for this model. I would recommend this humidifier to anyone. If you need to have eight gallons a day of output, it's there. If you need less, use a lower speed. Its great because you can read the humidity level and set the speed accordingly. I sleep better, and I feel much better. It does everything promised. It is not loud, it does not leak or any of those problems I have had in the past. It is easy to fill also. And it is so easy to clean.

Also, its important that you use Essick replacement filters. I ordered the filters that were on the page with the humidifier. They are the wrong filters and poorly constructed. Amazon sells the correct filters, Essick filter part number MAF2. Be sure to order the correct filters. Don't waste your money on imitations. And order the correct number, MAF2 is the replacement filter number.

Want 8GAL HUMIDIFIER (Essick Air Products MA0800) Discount?

We decided to buy this humidifier with the hopes that it would humidify the entire second floor of our 1700sf, 2 1/2 story colonial. I do believe it is doing a good job. I must say that after one night I do feel relief from the dryness. I use cpap and would wake up all night long because of mouth dryness. Even though my cpap machine has its own humidifier there was no humidification reaching me because the air was so dry coming into the machine. Using this multi-room humidifier has absolutely reduced the dryness in our home and I noticed a difference in my cpap therapy. Air in the house is definitely more comfortable.

The unit is quite quiet. The fill tank is fairly easy to fill, although it was too tall to fill in the bathroom sink. Internally it is very accessible when you lift the fill tank and main assembly from the base. This is something which I wanted as I didn't want the operation of the unit to be a mystery (is there mold or algae building up inside)? You can clearly see all parts of this humidifier and clean it easily when necessary. Filter/wick is very easy to replace and is inexpensive.

Essick Air 821-000 Digital Control Evaporative Console Humidifier

Essick Air 821-000 Digital Control Evaporative Console HumidifierRecently moved from New England to mid-Atlantic area. So although not as dry as the northeast, it gets dry when the temps go down. I hadn't used it for 2 years but dragged it out of the attic when this December/January cold snap hit the D.C. area. It works as well as I remember.

Easy to fill. Just roll it over to the bathroom and use the handheld shower massager to fill it fast. You can also screw a hose adapter on to your kitchen sink and cut an old hose to 4 ft length to fill it really fast. I used a quick release adapter so I didn't have to screw the hose on.

Holds 6 gallons and will dump 6 gallons in to the air over a 24 hour period, which is nice because I only have to fill it once a day (before bed usually). It's nearly silent on low mode. Hygrometer is accurate and easy to set. I usually set it for 50 and it will shut off when the house gets to 55% (it's a little off). Running it on high will dump a lot of moisture in the air quick. I just wouldn't want to sit in the same room with it running on high.

I've had this one for at least 5 or 6 years and it's reliable, easy to fill, great automatic function, runs long time. I gave up on the heat-type humidifiers and the ultrasonic. They are a pain in the butt compared to something like this (and won't humidify an entire house).

Cleaning is a snap, about once a week you can just pour some humidifier cleaner in it and the anti-bacteria stuff, hit it with a sponge and rinse it out.

Automatic float function can be damaged if you're not careful with it. It's basically a foam block at the bottom with a piece of plastic going up to the float switch.

Oh one more thing...I've owned many humidifiers and always end up coming back to evaporation type humidifiers because they require the least amount of care. One thing to avoid...do not ever buy the type of evaporative humidifiers with the removable bottles (like the bigger BEMIS and Essick). I've owned a couple different of this bottle style and one thing is always certain, The bottles are a pain to fill, eventually leak, or come defective from the factory (holes on seams).

This console humidifier doesn't have bottles. Just a big open container. It has wheels and is easy to roll. I highly recommend you get this style if you can roll your humidifier to a bathroom or kitchen. For kitchen, get a garden hose adapter and a 5ft length of hose, and you'll fill it quick with no lifting. As I said before, I have a hand held shower nozzle in my bathroom next to the living room. I just roll this thing up to the tub and fill it with the hand held shower nozzle then roll it right back.

One more thing...since moving to D.C. the tank has stayed very clean after running 3 weeks pretty much non-stop. When in New England (also on town water there) I found it would crud up (brown gunk and sometimes mold) and the filter would gunk up quicker up there too. I suspect how much cleaning you have to do might be tied to the quality of your tap water. You could use distilled water but that would be a pain to buy, take home and fill.

Cleaning: I haven't had to clean it yet (the tank) this winter. The rest could use some dusting (as you can see by my pics). I should probably use humidifier cleaner but I don't. I bought Spray Nine cleaner (Home Depot as it and some hardware stores. I spray the whole interior tank, let it sit for ten minutes and rinse out in tub with hot water. Spray Nine is the best cleaner I've used and it will clean anything with a soak. Just make sure to rinse it really well with hot water so you don't get foam when you fill the tank again. Oh and don't clean it with the Spray Nine when the wick is in there or it will be foam city and you will have to throw out the wick.

I know this is a lengthy review, but there are so many crummy humidifiers on the market and this one is the best I've owned. I couldn't quite make out from the package how the controls worked hence my detailed captioned pics and review. I hope this has helped you decide whether or not this is the unit for you.

I've been using a large whole house or console humidifier for about 5 years. This is by far the easiest to refill out of any I have owned.

Pros-

Very Easy to refill No screw caps or tanks to carry.

Quiet in low mode

Large water reserve

Cons-

Lid is hard to get on right. Takes some time and patience, but you don't have to take it off to refill the unit.

It is loud on the high setting.

Buy Essick Air 821-000 Digital Control Evaporative Console Humidifier Now

I had been searching for a humidifier (or humidifiers) for my 1900 SF house, and was excited when I came across this model, as it was compact and not ugly like the console humidifiers I have seen. Floor space in my house is somewhat limited, so I liked the fact that its upright design would allow flexibility in placement. Also, I'd had good luck with Bemis in the past (had two H12 console units, in black, which for some reason Bemis no longer offers), so I thought I'd give this a try. My intent was to order a second one if it worked well, since the output ratings on humidifiers are generally quite overstated and I knew I would need more capacity.

What a disappointment! The unit only has two speeds, and the high speed is LOUD. Now, I know that in order to put a lot of moisture in the air you have to have a pretty good fan blower, but this was ridiculous. Much louder than the H12 I'd had before. Also, the humidity setting only scrolls up, so you have to cycle all the way through to get back to the lowest setting. I guess that's really more of a minor annoyance, but it was disappointing nonetheless.

But the real problem was that the unit just plain didn't add moisture to the air. We left it running all night, and barely any water had evaporated by the next morning. In looking at the unit further, there is a major design flawunlike most humidifiers, which draw air into the unit through the wick (where it then picks up moisture), in this model the air is drawn in near the top, and also expelled at the top, while the wick is lower in the unit, so the majority of air just bypasses the wick.

I am returning this unit, and will have to bite the bullet and purchase another H12 console unit. I already own a Honeywell HCM-300T, but it's only rated 3 gallons per day and used in my bedroom at night. I am waiting for it to "die" because I don't like the fact that the cold air blows out of the BOTTOM of the unit, making an unpleasant draft on the floor. I did consider the Honeywell 6011i but don't like the fact that it has two water bottles (less convenient), and also the air blows out the side rather than the top. Bemis will get my business after all, but I can't believe they produced an inferior model like this.

UPDATEDecember 2012

Some of the comments suggested I hadn't set up the unit properly, and disputed my description of the air flow. I purchased and returned the unit a long time ago, so it's possible I missed something on the setupand the fact that it didn't really add moisture to the air might point to that. However, the unit does not have any vents on the sides or lower down on the unityou can see that from the pictures. All of the air flow happens near the top of the unit, which logically would only dry out the top of the wick and would be a less efficient way of adding moisture to the air than if the air went through a greater portion of the wick. After I returned this unit, I purchased a Bemis/Essick H12 and a Kenmore 12 gallon unit (http://www.amazon.com/Kenmore-12-gal-Humidifier/dp/B001UFK9WI/ref=sr_1_12?s=appliances&ie=UTF8&qid=1356893546&sr=1-12&keywords=humidifier+12+gallon). Both of these units draw air through the entire wick and worked well for methough they, too, could be finicky in terms of placing the fan unit properly once refilled.

Ultimately, however, I ended up getting an Aprilaire whole house humidifier attached to my A/C ductwork (we have radiator heat). This solved all the hassles of console humidifiers for good!

This humidifier is convenient to refill, easy to use. The problem is that the fan/motor rattles most of the time, and the noise is unbearable. The rattle persists on both low and high speeds. When the rattling stops, the sound is very tolerable, but the quiet does not last. Moving the unit from tile to linoleum made no difference. The Sears models are much quieter.

Another problem is that the filter was in place rather than in a sterile package, so it was dirty on arrival.

I purchased this humidifier to replace a Lasko 1128 that had broken, and I'm in love.

First of all, no more holding awkward containers precisely under the tub's water spigot--with this humidifier, just fill a bucket and pour it in--SO much easier!

The low speed is very quiet and still puts two to three gallons of water into the air daily. (The high speed is loud as people have said, but not any louder than the Lasko's speeds 2 and 3. And the Laskos' low speed was much noisier). On low, this humidifier keeps the room between 45 and 50%.

I like that this humidifier has a large reservoir to hold the water, so I could, in theory, skip a day in refilling it (Something I often did with the Lasko). I haven't skipped a day though, because it is so easy to refill. Ah!

As to the other complaints, since I am always refilling it, I'm hoping not to run into problems with the shut-off. The "set the humidity you want" button does only scroll up--but who cares? You set it once and leave it (or, at least, I do...). The wick holder is very wimpy, as Nick has said. Overall, it's still awesome because ease of use and performance are tops in my book.

Also Amazon got it to me in three days or something--crazy fast! Thanks, Amazon.

I had previously purchase the Hunter humidifier, and didn't know where (locally) they might have the filters. Rather than wasting time and gas money looking, I simply ordered the filter on-line. No problem installing it, and it works beautifully.
