Air-O-Swiss Refurbished 7133 Ultrasonic Humidifier - Warm and Cool Mist

Air-O-Swiss Refurbished 7133 Ultrasonic Humidifier - Warm and Cool MistIt has everything the ad said. An adjustment for hot or cool, easy to use and clean. Excellent product for apartment living, very slim and sleek design. Does not make noise.

For those who are new to ultrasonics, WHITE MIST! All ultrasonic humidifiers atomize the water with the calcium included in the mist (or sodium with softened water). Many make attempts to pre-filter the water to prevent this, but all have failed. This calcium mist gets everywhere and eventually creates a white dust-like covering on everything.

So knowing this, if you spend long time periods in dry hotels, this is for you. Quiet, easy to use and let the maid clean up the mess. :-)

Nice humidifier. Puts out lots of cool mist or not...it's up to you to regulate the amount of moisture you want to put out. Good idea on the water filter purifier incorporated in the cool mist.

Friedrich D50AP 50 Pint Dehumidifier with built-in drain pump, front bucket and continuous drain

Friedrich D50AP 50 Pint Dehumidifier with built-in drain pump, front bucket and continuous drainHave only used this for a day, so this review does not address reliability.

Pros:

This unit excels at its primary function of removing water from the air. Was dropping my basement more than 1 point of humidity per hour (starting from 50% humidity and in conjunction with my old Whirlpool dehumidifier).

Amazingly quiet.

Nice set of controls including humidistat and self defrost. Humidistat setting goes down to 30%. Operation is limited to 41 degrees fahrenheit or warmer.

It has an internal electronic pump for self drain, or you can use passive gravity drain for continuous drain.

The instructions are written in clear english with some helpful tips.

Some cons:

Comes with castor wheels on the bottom and these wheels don't lock, so I have to block the tires to make the unit truly stationary (placing the wheels inside Gatorade bottle caps works well). Also, if you remove the wheels, the unit is not stable (there is a triangular piece of plastic that protrudes from the bottom, so the unit is very wobbly without the wheels).

The threading on the passive gravity drain was a bit off, so my garden hose would not attach as firmly as I would have liked. I used their included hose instead, which worked well.

No continuous run setting, so if the humidistat goes bad, unit won't work.

I gave it five stars because the cons were very minor in my book.

Also, for reference I comparison shopped this versus the Frigidaire FAD504DUD 50-Pint Dehumidifier and Amazon was selling the Friedrich at about the same price (a few $$ more). The Friedrich had two extra things going for it: 1) it has a built in pump to drain the water, 2) several reviewers reported problems with the Frigidaire gravity drain, which is a key feature for me. Seems comparable to the DeLonghi DD50P 50 Pt which was $50 more.

****** update *****

5-15-2013

Have run the unit for 10 months and it has been flawless. Air filter is also easier to access and clean relative to my old Whirlpool (which is not bad either). The drain system has also been working well. I continue to use the gravity drain attached to a Little Giant condensate pump (b/c I already had it set up for the basement drain), so have not been using the internal electric pump.

For reference, my basement stays around 59 degrees most of the year with a low of around 53 in a real cold snap. I have been pleased that this unit's humidistat seems to work very well, in that the unit shuts off and on as appropriate. I have a separate humidistat about 20 feet from the unit that confirms the unit's readings. All the more impressive because on some brands the humidistat is located in such as way that it is impacted by the operation of the de-humidifier and thus not as useful.

I bought this dehumidifier to replace an aging one in my basement. I decided to get the Friedrich D50AP because it has a built-in pump. That feature freed me to locate it in an optimal location and run the supplied 15' clear hose to my sink, rather than be limited to locating the unit near my floor drain and using a gravity drain hose.

There's an illuminated digital readout of the air's temp and humidity that's easy to read from several feet away so you can check the room's status at a glance. The unit will restart/resume if the power goes out.

The air moves in through the front of the unit and exhausts straight up from the top. There are no air vents on the rear or sides so you have lots of options where you can position the unit relative to walls and other things in the room.

I can't hear it running from the 1st floor when it's down in the basement. Standing next to the unit the compressor hum is barely audible, but the fan has two speeds... strong, and stronger, and both are very audible and may distract from a phone conversation or watching TV.

It heats the room quite a bit, so it would only be comfortable to use in living areas if the room is naturally cool or forcibly cooled.

As for its 50 pint performance, it has no problem handling a 1,500 square foot sump-pumped basement during rainy days and holds humidity below 50% (I have it set to 45%). As a test I put the drain hose into a bucket and it filled it up in less than a day.

Overall, I'm very happy with it. It appears to be a quality product. I will consider the Friedrich brand again. If you think the handy pump feature may be useful now or in the future, this model is a great choice. If you are planning to have it in your bedroom, office or where you watch TV, be aware that when it's busy dehumidifying, the powerful fan makes very audible air whoosh noise, even on the low setting.

Buy Friedrich D50AP 50 Pint Dehumidifier with built-in drain pump, front bucket and continuous drain Now

I bought 2 of these Friedrich D50AP in addition to a DeLonghi DD50P 50 Pt. Energy Star Dehumidifier with Patented Pump, to take care of a damp and musty basement problem at my mother's house.

I think these are generally nicer than the DeLonghi model, due to the fact that the Delonghi has a "pump" button that needs to be set to make the pump work. I tested a power failure situation and the "pump" light was not illuminated/reset once power resumed. The Friedrich has an automatic switch when you connect the pump hose. No need to have the 'pump' button set.

In terms of aesthetics, I think the Friedrich looks nicer, considering both the drain hose, and the pump hose is in the back. The DeLonghi has the pump hose right in the front of the unit. Since I'm using the pump/drain hose instead of manually emptying the bucket, there is no need for me to see how much the bucket is filled (a feature of the DeLonghi).

I did order two of these units, and one of them was producing a very loud humming noise. If I put a little pressure on it, it would stop the insane rattling. Clearly the product should not have passed QC, so I did return one of them. The one that is working, works like a charm and I personally think is a little better than the Delonghi.

The Friedrich D50 Dehumidifier would not fill the bucket up before shutting itself off saying it had a full bucket. I called Friedrich who gave me several local service companys to call all of them said send it back since I did not purchase it from them. I am sending it back to Amazon who provided a return label and am going to order another one which is quicker than waiting on an exchange. Disappointed with Friedrich's service.

I am using this product in my basement. I bought it to replace an older Sears model. I found it to be quieter and like the continuous drain feature. I used it for a week before installing the drain and found the bucket was not very sturdy. Now that the drain is hooked up it is working out fine. Also it is an Energy Star product and it is less expensive to run than my older model. I would recommend this product only if you plan to use the continuous drain feature.

Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier

Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade DehumidifierThe product has been running smoothly for 2 months now. Arrival was on time, the packaging was very protective, set up is very easy and noise levels are moderate. Hooking a hose to the back for coninuous draining is very easy as the hole is high enough to allow gravity to work well. I'm using the unit for a 900 square foot basement and the air remains dry.

But with such units, real quality cannot be discerned for four to five years. That is when low quality unit issues emerge, such as coolant leakage or other compressor failures. So while I rate this unit very high, I can't say that with certainty over the long run

The unit is made in Poland. The country is encouraging high quality manufacturing at lower than German costs, but better than Chinese made products. I'm tired of Chinese stuff failing so I am hoping this was a good gamble. Check back in another two years

I ordered the Oasis D-165HG after two Chinese manufactured dehumidifiers died, each after only two years of operation. Both were made by LG (one Kenmore and one GE) and suffered refrigerant/oil loss.

The D-165HG is a bit pricey and not terribly efficient but if it lasts a long time it'll be worth the expense. It's old technology using a Tecumseh piston compressor made in Brazil and a sealed Morill fan motor made in Tennessee. I know both of these major parts to be of high quality. The remaining materials and workmanship appear to be good.

Packaging for shipping wasn't so great. It was covered by a cardboard box and strapped to a tiny skid. When it arrived the bucket full light was pushed out of the front panel. I pushed it back in. When powered up it worked perfectly with one exception, a rattle when the hot gas defrost cycle kicked on. I found there are two rows of expansion coils and the rear most row was pushed in, so it tapped against the front row when the solenoid opened. I gently pulled them apart and no more knocking.

It's a very quiet unit and it pulled the cool basement humidity down as quickly as the two 65 pints/24 hours rated LG models, although it's rated at 30 pints/24 hours. Under what conditions do they rate these things? Frankly, I find the LG units ratings hard to believe.

The warranty is one year, customer pays labor and transportation. There is a five year warranty on the sealed refrigeration system, customer pays labor and transportation. So the warranty isn't very good but I expect this unit to last a very long time given past experience with similar designs if being made in Poland means quality workmanshipwe shall see.

Added 8/20/2012

After some reflection I believe the reason the bucket full indicator was pushed out and the evaporator coils had shifted is due to the tiny skid raising the center of gravity of the package, making it prone to toppling and increasing any resulting damage. I also noticed a series of dings in the condenser coil fins that line up with the bottom ends of the innermost section of the evaporator coil. I believe that during shipment the package tipped over onto the face side of the dehumidifier.

Buy Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier Now

I ordered one of these dehumidifiers and it did not work. Because of my long search for a good dehumidifier I ended up learning about them. So I decided to troubleshoot it a little. I found out that the coils were not cold behind the filter on the top back of the unit. I opened the front cover (three Phillips screws underneath) and found that when I turned the unit on the compressor did not turn on. Fan and Compressor make very different noises, so If you can only hear air blowing, the compressor is not on. I saw in the bottom back left corner that one of the wires was off of its receptacle. I unplugged the the power and plugged in the loose wire. Then plugged the power cord into the wall and fired it up and the compressor coils instantly chilled.

So far after that issue it has been working nicely. This was almost a 1 star review. While I was poking around the insides I could see the nice workmanship and good quality materials. No Plastic parts internally. Hopefully it will last a long time, my last dehumidifier broke in a year. This is why I figured I should spend more to get a well made unit, because $200 every year gets more expensive if I live longer than 3 years. Which I plan to do. Will revise in the future if anything changes.

The dehumidifier works well so far. We have a cold basement (around 62 degrees) that off-the-shelf residential models just couldn't handle without freezing up. This model hasn't had any issues with the cold. Front wheels lock so the unit doesn't walk away. The only issue I see is the front plastic panel rattles. It could use some rubber between the housing and the panel. The water tank is a bit small but a hose can be used to drain directly to a drain.

Want Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier Discount?

I bought this humidifier and first thing I noticed was that the housing was bent on one side. Second, the bucket was cracked all the way from top to bottom. I returned and asked for a replacement. It arrived pretty soon but I noticed that the carton wasn't in good shape. When I opened the box I heard a noise of loosing parts. This one was in worse condition than the first one: the bucket, that looks very weak, was cracked in different parts, the housing bent in different locations, the seats for the compressor scattered inside the housing (the noise I heard when opening the box), the front panel de-attached from the housing, the connectors to the housing broken (very low quality plastic), and other details that could be a long list of wrong things. I didn't have the chance to try it, I had to return it right away and this time I asked for a refund. So, I don't know whether the unit is good or bad, but the way that Amazon treated me as a client was very poor. They didn't check if the item was in good condition to sell it; the second one was ovbiously a return that was not checked either before shipping. I wasted a lot of time and had problems at my job because I didn't have the unit when I promised to have it. I will think twice before buying from Amazon.com in the future and probably I will report it to Better Business Bureau.

SPT ION F-4010 Exchange Replacement Filter for SU-4010 Humidifier

SPT ION F-4010 Exchange Replacement Filter for SU-4010 HumidifierI'm not trying to be lame, but this is a replacement filter (the exact type that came with the SU-4010) -I cannot really get too excited over a water filter. I have no measurement equipment to even know if filters make a difference, but I'm going to assume they do. This fits and works perfectly with the SU-4010, which if you want an awesomely awesome humidifier I don't think you could do better. The SU-4010 is essentially silent and easily gets even larger rooms up to 80+% humidiy if needed. I have extreme excema, I keep the unit on 24/7 on its lowest output setting -keeps the room or rooms at about 65-70% humidity and it has no problem keeping up. Go buy the SU-4010, then order a few of these filter to have on hand. I do think they should have them in different colours...then I might be more excited by their arrival. Neon purple anyone?

Just mentioning that I uploaded a picture showing the actual shape of the filter I received, which differs from the shape shown in the default product image. The filter is actually round, which matches the shape of the original filter that came with this humidifier. I don't know if the hexagonal filter currently shown for this product will fit in this unit, but I have my doubts considering the filter on this model is designed to fit inside the tank and the opening in the tank is also round... but it seems the discrepancy might be moot if all others who purchased this filter also received round filters.

BTW, I gave it 4 of 5 stars only because, although I feel the humidifier works as I expect it to, I feel it's over-priced and I'd much prefer that the filter be redesigned to reduce waste, perhaps by making the plastic casing reusable.

I have lived in Chicago for many years, then moved to Colorado 28 yrs. ago. Went from humidity to ZERO humidity. Lots of sinus and resp. problems from the dryness. Ran humidifiers here but too much white dust if ultrasonic. I tried the distilled water which was great and cut down on the dust, but it was really expensive even at $1/bottle if you are using it 4 times a day etc. So bought this filter and I can use tap water right from the sink and no white dust. GREAT!! Our water is so hard here, the humidifiers are put to the test. But I am happy with this. I also use those small mineral balls you throw inside the tank to keep the algae and mold from forming. Every morning, after running all night, I open everything up, air dry it and let it sit open till night time for more humidity. Then clean everything once a week at least with antibacterial soap and weak bleach.

This fits my SPT SU-4010 Ultrasonic Dual-Mist Warm/Cool Humidifier with Ion Exchange Filteras it supposed to, but lasts for only a couple weeks. Maybe this is all that is to be expected with Chicago water, but I'm constantly cleaning slime and deposits from the inside of the humidifier base and mist path, sometimes only a week after replacing with a new filter... However, I don't know of any alternative in terms of an ion exchange filter replacement.

Heaven Fresh HF 707 Digital Ultrasonica Cool and Warm Mist Humidifier and Ionizer - Color Black

Heaven Fresh HF 707 Digital Ultrasonica Cool and Warm Mist Humidifier and Ionizer - Color BlackI spent about three hours reading reviews and trying to learn all the pros and cons of humidifiers. This is because I really HATE wasting time with returns, certainly hate wasting money on things that don't last, and always want the lowest-maintenance alternative.

And I'm willing to pay more to avoid hassles.

This arrived just two days ago, and so far so good. I hesitated about giving it 5 stars, but then realized it seems to be exactly as advertised.

However, if it dies or has problems, I will be returning to edit this review accordingly.

***

SETUP:

Pretty much easy as pie. The water tank is quite easy to fill and carry. (A large 5 inch cap is involved that must be screwed on quite tightly, which may be a slight issue for an elderly person. If so, something like the Evriholder EasiTwist Jar Opener, Assorted Colors would be a good thing to have.)

For refilling at very shallow sinks, it might also be helpful to get something like the Univ Repl Fill Hose, which will fit over any faucet. It would be nice if they included something like this in the box with the humidifier.

OPERATION:

Also quite easy. The directions are very good, and include helpful photos. The manual frequently says that, if you have any problems or questions, to call their tech support line -good to know.

FEATURES:

It has them all: warm or cool mist; digital settings to cut the guesswork; a built-in humidity sensor (I haven't tested the room humidity with a separate instrument yet); negative ion generator; timer; translucent tank to see the water level; auto shutoff when tank is empty; settings to go from LOTS of mist volume to light mist, or just set the mist volume to Auto. And, of course, a tiny remote control.

And it is very quiet. What little noise you hear is actually pleasant.

MAINTENANCE:

Having read a lot about how other brands require regular cartridge replacement, frequent cleanings, and various other forms of fussing, I am impressed with the system they have engineered: chemically treated beads in a cage that pre-treat the water, and which they say will not need periodic replacement.

The user manual says to spot-clean with vinegar once a week (if you're using it every day). It also says to soak the bead cage for 10 minutes, but does not say how often. Surely ALL of this depends on how hard your water is (i.e., how much calcium and other minerals it contains). I am lucky to have very good city water, and plan to clean only when I start to see some evidence of white film in the basin where you put the water tank.

(Some may find their water is so hard that a) it has to be boiled first, or b) they have to use bottled water. But this is a water problem that affects all humidifiers. I think some reviewers of other products don't understand that.)

The big question most will ask: how often do you fill the tank? I don't have a good answer yet, but will update. Their printed brochure in the box claims "up to 7 nights" of use per tank at the lowest settings. Their web site claims "up to 14 nights". (Hmmm... where's the salt?) But I can say: even if you had to fill the tank every night it would be no great hardship.

RESULTS:

This was purchased for a household member who has been having real problems with the dryness of winter heating, including bad sinus issues, in a 200 sq ft bedroom. She reports that symptoms are clearing up after the first night of use. She doesn't notice it at all when it's operating and forgets it's there.

Final advice for now: the corny brand name. I almost didn't buy it because I thought "How can anything named 'Heaven Fresh' be any good?" Well, it does appear to be very good technology, well-made too, and a rather attractive design.

Like I said, if anything bad happens, I'll be back. But all the signs are quite good so far. Plus they are standing behind their product with a 3-year warranty (parts & labor), and if anything goes wrong in the first 90 days, they'll ship you a new machine.

Seems unlikely to turn into a "disposable" that I've read about in other product reviews, the ones that cost less than half and seem to be one whole lotta trouble. But, we'll see.

I love this humidifier.... We live in northern montana, so the forced air furnace runs all the time in the winter creating bone dry air. Most of the winter, I would usually cough a lot and have nose bleeds from dry nasal passages. Have tried just about every humidifier to keep the bedroom air moist, but they were all ineffective.... With the vaporizer types, there would be so much moisture we'd get tons of condensation on the windows and mold and frost in the corners, the evaporative types with the wicks or pads just couldn't put out enough and the wicks would clog up and get yucky at the base. The smaller ultrasonic models wouldn't put out nearly enough to keep the air moist and sprayed more calcium particles than moisture.

This one WORKS!!!! I can set it for 50 percent humidity and it gives me just that...... All night long ... With refilling the tank about every other day. No more waking up coughing!!!! It gives a wonderful mist, and I haven't had calcification issues yet... I fully expect to have to de-scale the water holding areas because I'm using tap water.... But it doesn't spray white powder all over everything, even with high calcium water... And the silver beads keep the water smelling fresh, so there's no musty moldy yuck like the evaporative ones had.

Addressing some of the other concerns reviewers had voiced..... I had absolutely no problem with the light intensity from the display, It's a nice soft blue that is just bright enough so that I can look over and see that it's working ok.. Not intrusive or overly bright . As far as filling the tank.. There's a drop or two when you lift it up.... It is water on water at the inlet... But we're talking a couple of drops. The tank isn't that heavy when filled.... Maybe 10 pounds...it's no different than lifting a watering can with a gallon and a half of water. The hardest part is that the cap on the base can get a bit of a vacuum in it... And if you are older with small hands, it can be a little hard to break the seal on the vacuum, but the same handy device you use to open a jar works just fine to open the cap.... Or if you're Betty white, you can get your cute pool boy to do it. I've had no problem with white dust, even with hard water... The beads in the infuser seem to be very effective. As far as too much moisture..... You've got to set it to what you need, I started at 25 percent, too low, Went up to 67 and got too much moisture in the area surrounding the device, went down to 50 and it was perfect for our bedroom. Not much different than adjusting a thermostat. And it is quiet.. If I'm awake I can hear it cycle as a slight whoosh if the room is quiet. If I'm asleep,I never even notice, And I'm a light sleeper. Overall, More satisfied than I ever have been on a product of this type...

Love the white noise background it offers. The adjustable vapor is awesome. The only negative (if it can be called that) is the noise made to alert a water empty shut off. When this occurs in the middle of the night it is alarming.

It is quiet enough to work with it in the room with it and not be distracted. It holds enough water to last most of the day, even on a high setting. It does raise the humidity, but only on the floor where it is being used. My brother has three in his house and has better results. Dislike the filling of water from the bottom of the water container. It is consistently messy and always gets water on our hardwood flooring. If I had known about this in the beginning, I might not have purchased it, but now that I have, I find it doesn't matter as much as having a quiet, efficient machine. Since I am an engineer, I imagine the trade off to produce less vibration, and less sound, is probably required of the water filling, but it is a dislike anyway. For us, it is only 3 months out of the year.

Want Heaven Fresh HF 707 Digital Ultrasonica Cool and Warm Mist Humidifier and Ionizer - Color Black Discount?

I did a lot of research on these before I bought one. I have paid too much money for humidifiers I have not been happy with. Usually the tank is too small, they are hard to clean, they get dirty too fast, etc. I liked the reviews on this machine so I purchased it and I have not been disappointed. This device works very well and does a great job. There are enough settings that I have lots of control but not so many that it becomes complicated. The tank is the perfect size; it lasts through the night on the max setting while still putting out a lot of moisture. I also like the reading of the current humidity so you can gauge (or let it automatically) when to shut off or lower the mist. This has been a great product and is very well made. We have had it for a month now and used it every single night. It has worked great, is easy to clean, and keeps the water very clean in the tank and reservoirs. We have very hard water and I am impressed at how well this machine handles it. We do get some white dust from it, but that is to be expected with as hard as our water is. Overall we love this product and will probably get another one for our family as well.
