it was definitely smaller and lighter than i imagined it would be :) very neatly designed an the green light is an added bonus, additional nightlight. when plugged in, the aroma quickly fills the room. My son would normally fall asleep an sound congested, light snore in a short time, but when we used this vaporizer he slept soundly an quietly an hasnt been stuffy or congested since i bought it. it works really well an may save some visits to the doctor, who knows?? :)

This is a little heart shaped diffuser as shown. There is no on/off swtch. You just plug it in. It works like one of those Glade plug-ins, only using essential oil instead of a little chemical packet. Although they sell these pre-scented pads to go with it, I bought some blank pads, with nothing on them, and cut one down to fit. You can add any essential oil you want to them and you can re-oil the same pad again and again.

Essential oils are sold as single oils or as blends. Buying the oil is a lot cheaper than buying refill pads that are pre-scented, especially since the oil on a pad dissipates overnight. And for those who are worried about using essential oil, they come in dropper bottles so you never touch the oil, you just dab it on the pad using the dropper bottle and pop the pad into the diffuser/waterless vaporizer.

I purchased this as a simpler alternative to the traditional Vicks and other brands of Vaporizers.

Pro's:

1) Easy to plug in

2) No filling up a large vaporizer with water constantly

3) No measuring medicine into the vaporizer machine

4) No need for an outlet

5) No constant need to maintain a level of medication and no guessing at home much to put in the water

6) No concerns of building up mold in the vaporizer, eliminating constantly needing to clean the unit

1) The instructions specifically state "CAUTION: Do not touch exposed pad with skin. In case of contact with skin, wash area immediately with plenty of water.

It's a bit of a challenge to open the package just right and place the pad into the unit without touching it. I have touched it, and it caused a numbing tingling sensation. I immediately washed my hands and went away. The soothing ingredients of Eucalyptis Oil, Cedarleaf Oil (Mineral Oil), Nutmeg Oil, and Thymol don't last all night as advertised, and I found that the unit leaked. Not only that, but the night light also went out. I assume the leaking oil caused the night light to burn out. If this is true, isn't this a fire hazard if the oil leaked enough to cause the night light to go out? That doesn't bring me any comfort.

My 2nd humidifier purchase this week (the first being a dud and different model other review up shortly) I'm very happy with this unit. It did cost more than the other model, but this one works great! I needed it for my bedroom, plugged it in filled it up and an hour later the room felt great. I like the front fill, so no reservoir to take to the sink, lug back and try to flip in without spilling water.

I noticed a difference the first night using this unit. The wick filters already do seem a bit dirty after just a few days, so I will edit my review if need be re: filter changes. The manual says wicking should be changed 1-2 months depending on water quality, usage & dust. I have 3 dogs & 3 cats, so we'll see about the dust factor

I liked this unit when I originally purchased it. I set it on a tile floor and even my cats who don't care for loud noises weren't bothered by the sound of the water pumping. About 3 weeks after I purchased it the water stopped pumping and the motor (fan?) started making a horrible grinding noise. Sometimes if I played with the motor and reseated it the water would start flowing again but not for long. I called the company after cleaning it and changing the filters, they told me to take it back to the store and exchange it. I have had the 2nd unit for 2 weeks now and it's doing the same thing!! I have never let it run out of water and only use bottled culligan water in it. Honeywell Customer Service told me this is a 'top of the line' model. REALLY?? This one is going back also, for $50 I should have gotten something that lasts at least 1 winter.

Second day of using this unit barely feels like it is putting any water in the air the Blue light that it casts on the ceiling is bright (and rather annoying) and it sounds like I have a waterfall and a noisy one in my room the whole time this thing is plugged in. The motor also makes a rather loud noise... as soon as I find the receipt this is going back to the store. Not worth the money.

First of all, I'd like to say that this humidifier is very convenient to refill. That is the only positive thing I can say about it. The unit has a water pump which has to be properly seated or it won't work. If I want to keep our unit working, I have to constantly reseat the pump every couple of hours when it stops pumping water. This humidifier is also very loud and we have to cover up the bright blue light in order to sleep with it running. We are returning it today for a different brand after one week of use.

Lasko 7050 Misto Outdoor Misting Fan

Picked up one of these Lasko Misters for a Memorial Day Barbeque we were hosting when the temperatures were supposed to be in the 90's and there was a "Heat Warning" for our area. I HATE hot weather and spend most of my Summers indoors with the A/C on.

We set up the Lasko Misting Fan as we were getting ready for our guests. The mist definitely made me feel cooler... but I did notice the deck was getting quite wet near the unit. We tried adjusting everything the tilt of the fan, the level of spray (3 levels) and the amount that our hose was turned on. Nothing seemed to keep the deck from periodically getting wet sun and wind would temporarily let things dry up but it kept puddling. So we set it up just off our deck on a ladder that way most of the 'excess' water fell on the bushes along the deck, and only a light spray got to the deck and the things and people on the deck. The oscillating fan is OK but not really noticeable. I would definitely recommend putting the unit up off the ground.

I did note, about 6 hours after we turned it on, that a table about 10 feet away from the unit with a vinyl tablecloth was quite WET! It had to be wiped really well with towels before we could use it for a card game. However, 6 hours of misting .... it's not surprising at all that it was wet.

Most of our guests were a good 20 feet from the unit and definitely felt the mist (and commented on it in a positive way.)

After dark we turned it off, and as we were cleaning up several of us noted that we really felt the difference. I don't know what this will do to our water bill, but it was nice to have it hooked up to a hose and not have to fill a storage tank constantly throughout the day.

As long as this unit continues to work after this initial outing, I will definitely consider it money well spent. ~$150 was kind of steep but literally our health was at stake today. A trip to the ER for heat stroke could easily cost more than that.

After reading reviews i decided to give it a try. I live in Florida and have a court yard pool that gets very hot in the summer. The pool deck is approx. 20 by 35. this fan makes it feel about 10 degrees cooler. I put the fan on a small table and it does make the deck wet in front of the fan. but with the humidity at 90% what do you expect. It is a great fan and very quit at high speed. You will be happy with this fan especially in a climate with lower humidity.

over priced.... nozzle head's orifices were too big, the amount of water that it was dripping out of the nozzle was so great, i think a $30 metal fan box and a garden hose, running at low, would've had the same affect.

Vornado makes the best humidifiers. The Evap3 is quiet and it puts out very much humidity. The older Vornado humidifiers were also great. Makes me wonder why all the models aren't still available? You will not be disappointed with the Evap3.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this humidifier. I could list all the pros, but let's just say that everything works as it should.

My one complaint is this: the unit doesn't turn off when empty. When the tank has drained completely, the fan just keeps going, indefinitely apparently. I looked in the manual and there's no mention of what's SUPPOSED to happen...so I assume this is just how they designed it. I have another humidifier (MoistAir HD1407) and when it's empty, the fans stop, and it displays "F" on the screen to indicate that it needs to be filled. On this Vornado humidifier, I have no way of knowing it's empty. What SHOULD happen, is when the tank is empty, the fan should stop and it should beep every few minutes until filled (like a smoke detector with a low battery). That way it wouldn't waste power by running the fan continuously (which serves no purpose when the reservoir is dry), and the room wouldn't dry out without my knowing.

Like I said, I'm still pretty happy with it. I just have to be sure to check on it regularly.

I have had lots of different humidifiers. I like this one the best. The ultrasonics leave white dust all over my electronics. And, you have to remember to replace the ultrasonics' demineralization and antibacteria cartridges on a schedule, because the end of their useful life is not always obvious. For this evap humidifier, you have to change the humidifier filters occasionally, but when they are no longer useful, you know it. Personally, I like the Vornado evap humidifiers much better than the ultrasonics, because I find them to be much less maintenance while working just as well or better. This is Vornado's best humidifier.

This humidifier works really well and the air actually feels better and smells better when it's running. The only drawbacks are that it can be a little bit noisy, but it doesn't run all the time. It only kicks on when the humidity isn't where you put the setting (30%, 40%, 50%, etc). The only other feature they should have but don't is something that warns you when it's out of water. I realized it wasn't kicking on all day and when I checked, it didn't have any water. So a sensor or something that warns you about that would be good. Otherwise, it's really a great humidifier!

Haier DE65EJ-L 65 Pint Electronic Dehumidifier, Energy Star Rated

Haier has some problems with their DE65EK. Purchased it mainly because it does has a direct drain feature. Plugged in, connected hose and turned on. Worked fine but all condensate is only going into the unit container bucket. Elevated front to give more slope for it to drain, still fulled bucket which of course then turns unit off. Called their customer service 2 different timestried their suggestionsstill drains only into unit container. Other than not draining 'direct' it ran nicely. Returned it to store for exchange. Not the same for the 2nd one, ran for 24 hours with NO condensate discharge at all. Called customer service againthey had no suggestions other than replace it. Returning it to store and will purchase DIFFERENT BRAND!!

If you should buy one... a word of caution, on the 2nd unit there was a small piece of tube sled in to hold the 'Bucket Full' switch in a closed position which means it would continue to run after full and overflow the bucket.

The basic compressor & blower works fine, does the job, isn't too loud, etc. The drain hose attachment is easy to set up and it's easy to move the unit around. But the digital controls & or sensor scheme leaves a lot to be desired.

When the unit turns off the residual moisture on the coils raises the sensed humidity as much higher (apparently inside the cabinet) than the actual room humidity, and it short-cycles 2-3 minutes on, 3-5 minutes off, repeat, apparently forever (or maybe until mid-winter when the RH drops to 30%? We'll see... Bumping the programmed humidity to the maximum 70% isn't sufficient to overcome the short-cycling, even when humidity monitors in the room 15' away from the unit are indicating 55% RH. Short cycling like this it's probably lowering the average efficiency, and since it's over-shooting well beyond the set point by (15% RH or more) it's using much more energy than it should. If I had it to do over again, I'd skip the digital control version and go with the version with elecro-mechanical dehumidistat and rely on humidity monitors & human interaction to tweak the setting. The digital controls seem designed to short-cycle the unit into an early grave.

Since the controls have the capability of turning on the blower (at high or low speed) and compressor independently, it would be more energy efficient to run the blower for 30-60seconds to sense the room's humidity level rather than the humidity level inside the cabinet before engaging the compressor, as a method keeping it from drying the room well beyond the setpoint. Alternatively, lengthening the minimum run time and adding 1-2 minutes of purge running the blower after disengaging the compressor MIGHT work well enough. (Does anybody do the basic engineering these days?) It has all of the necessary hardware built in to do a great job, but as programmed it falls short.

No matter what it would also be easier on the hardware to set minimum run times longer than just a couple of minutes, with correspondingly lengthened minimum off times. There is no situation in a residential setting where the humidity would change so rapidly as to require cycles a short as 2-3 minutesit's the average duty cycle that matters. Reducing 10-15 on/off cycles per hour to 2 or 3 wouldn't hurt function, but it would improve longevity of the equipment, and help the average efficiency. I'm sure it meets it's EnergyStar efficiency rating in a bench test, but in the real world it could do better. (A LOT better.) The control algorithm and humidity sensing arrangements are terribleI'd give the engineer who came up with it a Cor D+, and make them do it over. But not having used the competition's digital controls, it's hard to say if they do it any better.

Product showed up well boxed but was missing any instructions. Plugged it in and it kicked in right away, however, the "bucket full" does not work, so it overflowed once. I believe this box may have been pre-opened, no instructions and the lack of the "bucket full" not working lead me to this conclusion, though it was sold as new.

Worked fine the first summer. Stored in a dry, clean basement over winter. Plugged in the next spring and it did not produce any water. Of course this was just barely four weeks after the one-year warranty expired. Haier's customer service was unwilling to work with us. Said we would have to get it repaired, which would cost more than the original unit! Very disappointed!!! Poor quality of product and terrible customer service = no more Haier products for us! One star is too much for this product, but unfortunately the lowest we can go.

Oregon Scientific THGR122NX Wireless Temperature and Humidity Sensor

This Oregon Scientific THGR122NX sensor is OK. It reports data back to my base station steadily, and so far in the four months I have had it, the unit has worked reliably. For indoor usage where temperature and humidity don't vary too quickly, I think this would be a fine unit. I used some humidity calibration standards and the sensor readings can be accurate if you are willing to wait for the sensor to stabilize over about 12-24 hours.

My main complaint is that the humidity sensor is not very accurate for typical outdoor use. I live in a climate that gets hot and humid summers. At night time, the humidity almost always goes to nearly 100%, and in the day time it can be quite humid too (70%). It would be nice to have an accurate outdoor sensor to know when it would be pleasant to open the windows without letting in too much humidity.

The first problem is that the sensor's reported humidity level hits a maximum at about 88%. Anything above this reading indicates total saturation. Loss of sensor range is fail.

The second problem is that once the sensor has been saturated, it takes some to dry out. This is known as hysteresis. The true humidity may be dropping, but the THGR122NX reports the same value for an hour or more. This is important when the outdoor humidity is changing quickly in the day-night cycle. Sensor readings can be off by more than 10%; calculated dew points can be off by 5-10 degrees F.

The sensor is probably good for indoor use where we normally don't let the humidity get very high, or to change very quickly. But for outdoor use it just can't cope very well with high humidity or naturally changing conditions.

Product works as expected. From my experience Oregon Scientific Weather Stations are one of the best. The batteries last over a year and they are very accurate. After comparing different brands that people I know had I settled on a Oregon Scientific BAR388HGA and am very satisfied with it. I bought this sensor mainly to monitor the temperature in a second floor room. The sensor is approximately 60 feet away, up one floor and through several wall from the main unit, and it work very well.

Overall I'm happy with this purchase. It works as advertised and was pretty easy to setup / configure. I have 2 sensors setup so I can see the outdoor temp and the temp in my baby's room. One thing that really irritated me was that the remote sensors don't display the same temp. What I mean by this is that when I had both sensors side by side they were 2 degrees off in temp and humidity. They were placed 12 inches apart in the same room so that I could set them up and see how this all worked. I called the mfg and they told me that this is normal and that no 2 thermometers will ever display the same temp. I guess I just have to deal with that.

Kaz Incorporated V3900 Germ Free Cool Mist Humidifier

We used to have a Crane duck humidifier (that worked really well) in our toddler's room, but it broke when I dropped it earlier this winter. I bought this Vick's humidifier as a replacement because it "Sanitizes the water with UV Technology while reducing up to 99.9% of bacteria, mold, and spores". This was a big selling point for me, and I thought it would be worth the cost. We have been using this humidifier for 2+ months, and I am very disappointed for the following reasons:

1. We need a humidifier because the winters are very dry here. My son's skin tends to be dry, his nose especially. It does not seem like this humidifier is helping at all. His skin and nose are just as dry. This humidifier puts out "invisible, moisture-balanced air", so it just feels like a cool fan blowing, and you can't actually see the mist. I'm not sure if being able to see (or not see) the mist makes any difference, but something isn't working because it is still too dry in his small room.

2. There are three levels: High (max moisture), Medium (moisture maintenance mode), and Low (sound sleeping mode). So yes, this humidifier is pretty quiet, but only on the "Low" setting. I thought I could just crank it up to "High" to put more moisture in the air, but on that setting the humidifier is too loud and my son is unable to sleep through it. So I tried "Medium", which is a little loud, but still not helping with the dryness. I have tried "High" during the day/"Low" at night, and also "Medium" all the time, but it is still too dry in his room.

3. We use a sound-only baby monitor in our son's room. When the humidifier setting is on "Medium" or "High", we are unable to hear anything through the monitor except the humidifier. It's not that big of a deal for us (because we don't really need to use the monitor for our toddler), but take this into consideration if you are buying this for an infant's room.

4. This 1-gallon tank is supposed to last for up to 24 hours. It does, but only if you leave it on "Low" all of the time. When left on "Medium", it has to be refilled every 16 hours, approximately.

On the plus side, it is easy to fill, and the reservoir does seem to stay cleaner than the Crane did. These are the only reasons that I did not give it 1 star. I really wished that this worked better for us because the idea of a humidifier that helps to reduce the amount of bacteria in the air is really appealing.

When I received this humidifier, I was very pleased with the design, how efficiently it used water, and the fact that the UV light killed 99.9% of the germs. The noise emitted from the humidifier was minimal, but I found the blue light on the dial annoying. Still, that complaint was minor. All things appeared well until I awoke this morning to find that the towel the humidifier was sitting on was soaking wet. I've always been careful with placing a humidifier on furniture and never had a problem with one leaking. That all changed with this unit. Not only do I have a faulty unit, but now the top of my good wood furniture is ruined! I believe this humidifier hasn't been out too long, and I would recommend waiting to purchase it until all the kinks have been worked out!

The filter developed mold and dirty buildup within about 1 month. The unit began to to emit a moldy smell soon after. The humidifier basically becomes a mold growing and spraying unit unless you keep up with cleaning and buying new $12 filters every few weeks.

Bought one of these for baby's room, had it for a year, no problems. Just bought 3 more. Have a humidistat, these do in fact raise the humidity, I've measured it. Though keep in mind a humidifier is not going to cure your baby's nasal/respiratory completely and may not help at all...but these do provide humidity. Never had any problems. Some reviews mention "leaking"...the only way this will leak is if you somehow get water in the fan assemble inside, then it drains out some holes on the bottom(did this accidentally while cleaning it--there are signs telling which way to drain it to avoid this), otherwise there is no logical way these can leak...it has to be user error.
