Royal Sovereign BDH-550 Dehumidifier 55 Pint

Royal Sovereign BDH-550 Dehumidifier 55 PintThe Good: The product performs as mentioned in other reviews. It is effective. I plugged it in last night and dropped the output hose into a bucket to measure the collection out of curiosity. By morning, the unit had collected nearly a gallon of water. That is the good part. The bad side is that this thing is NOISY. I read reviews on-line that said the unit is quite. I even read one that said it was as quite as an "average" fan. Lemme tell you, if your fans are that loud, it is time to change them out. This thing sounds like on older style window unit AC...seriously every bit as loud. Other reviews stated that when the pump kicked on the unit was unbearably noisy. I hate to inform anyone who doesn't know this. When you run a sump pump without any water in it to pump...it is going to be noisy. However, if you allow some water to get into the unit and allow it to work as it is supposed to, the pump is not even noticeable compared to the 747 like noise made by the fan unit. So, basically, the unit works well. Just don't plan on having any quite conversations in the same room as the dehumidifier.

Royal Sovereign bdh-550 worked great for a few months. It no longer dehumidifies and is now just an expensive fan. Repair costs are too high to merit not just buying another dehumidifier (of another brand). Think twice before purchase.

I've been looking to get a dehumidifier for a while and finally settled on this dehumidifier. I really like the bucketless feature because I never empty buckets of water now. Nice for my back. Also the design is nice and compact so it won't take up a lot of space.

I haven't had any trouble with the pump or anything like that. I always double check that the hose doesn't have anything blocking it because it will stop the dehumidifier. I would recommend calling their customer service if anyone has a problem. I called them because I thought something was wrong with the pump/hose and they just walked me through any possible reasons it wouldn't work. They were really nice and on top of everything.

Don't quite know how long we've had it, lost the invoice, but know it's past the warranty. The pump seems to have stopped working. Great difficulty getting customer service. Several requests from both the web page, and phone messages led to no response over several months. Finally my wife impersonated a retailer to get someone on the phone. Was told it was probably the pump, but since we did not have the receipt, warranty service could not be provided. We called the suggested local repair shop, only to learn that they were suspending warranty service because Royal Sovereign had not reimbursed them for a long time. Also learned that the expense of fixing and replacing the pump would nearly meet the cost of replacing the unit. He also said that the pumps failing was not so unusual. So what we have here is faulty design, and a troubled company. Buy at your own risk.

It worked well for 13 months, then the pump died. The warrenty was for 12 months.

Honeywell HCM-1000 3 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier

Honeywell HCM-1000 3 Gallon Cool Mist HumidifierGetting another humidifier has become a regular 3-month affair in our household with three bedrooms. Every Walmart/Target brand either has the fan die, is impossible to clean, or the filter is pressed against the side so that water leaks out and ruins the dresser. I've given up on the diffusers since the electrode gets corroded and the moisture just hangs in the corner.

So, we've now grabbed a Honeywell (Humidifier number 8). There is a handle on both the top and bottom of the tank, so it's easy to fill and easy to place into the humidifier. The 3 fan speeds are evenly set (one humidifier had 2 "barely breathing" settings followed by "jet turbine.") The humidity setting is a nice touch, but we usually set it for full blast anyways. The fan grill easily pops off so you can clean the fan blades. The water basin is separate from the motor assembly, so you can conceivably toss the whole bottom frame into the dishwasher to clean out the usual water deposit build-up that occurs with humidifiers. The filter is pretty large and it is not pressed against any of the sides, so NO LEAKS. It's been happily humming for over a month now with no issues.

Yah...I'm happy! I'm writing this as I buy a couple more for the rest of the rooms. It's a great price for a surprisingly capable humidifier.

Jim

We own two of these, and have had no problems with either of them for the past 5 years. For us, they are perfect in the winter for our children's rooms and provide a consistent amount of humidity, a level which we are able to choose. There are 3 fan levels which determines how much humidity is "blown" into the air. The lowest fan level is a soft hum, with the highest being rather loud. In addition, you can customize the level of moisture control; from maximum to light. The machine stops once dry (but remains on) and an indicator light comes on reminding you to either shut it off or refill. Stock up on filters and know that you will need to refill the machine every other night (at least) when used at the medium level of humidity and fan.

This Honeywell humidifier works great. I live in the Northeast and bought this humidifier at the beginning of winter this year. It took almost one full week before it reached optimal humidity but it is now so much more comfortable in my house. I've bought other brands at similar price points and this is by far the best. To extend the life of the filter use the Protec cleaning cartridge.

The unit was bought to humidify an average size bedroom. It does it well, (with the door closed) provided it is run on medium speed; low speed just doesn't cut it. The unit is turned on a few hours before bedtime and runs the night.

The sound level at medium is quite acceptable as I like a bit of "white noise" to get to sleep. I can hear the TV at a lowish volume with the unit on medium, if that helps anyone gauge how noisy medium is. The noise level at high is too loud.

They offer a water treatment product to help breakdown minerals in the water. I was unable to find it locally or on Amazon, but the Kaz website sells it for about $3.00 for a small bottle, plus shipping. I thought it was too pricey and hope the filter lasts the season, at which time I'll discard the filter.

Want Honeywell HCM-1000 3 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier Discount?

To its credit, it is compact and pretty quiet. I run it only overnight and a full tank of water lasts 2 or 3 nights. The major flaw is it occasionally overflows at the base when not in operation. Therefore, I have to remove the water dispenser every morning to prevent a surprise puddle of water on the floor during the day.

Protec DynaFilter Humidifier Cartridge, Air Cleaning, 3 ct.

Protec DynaFilter Humidifier Cartridge, Air Cleaning, 3 ct.A few weeks ago I ordered the Protec DyanFilter Air Cleaning Humidifier Cartridges and I have to say that I am very satisfied with the price and the product.

I received them on time and I would truly recommend them to others. They are easy to install and last about 3 moths before having to replace them. Thanks so much.

No need to spend more money for the OE filters. I see no cost cutting compared to the OE part. Great value when buying this package of three filters.

I have searched when shopping and could not find the filters for my Vicks Humidifier. Thank you for having them. There are 3 new cartridges in the box. They look just like the cartridges that came with my new humidifier. The only difference that I notice is that the white filter is not as thick as my original one. The cartridge fits the humidifier and I am happy to have been able to find them.

HAC-504 Aftermarket Honeywell Humidifier Wick Filter

HAC-504 Aftermarket Honeywell Humidifier Wick FilterThe wick works just fine although it plainly had been in its box, folded in half for quite some time. I had to re-shape it, put it in a small box, and leave it overnight in the box to make it sufficiently round to fit my humidifier. I have had no problems with it since then. I was impressed considering the age of my humidifier.

These are the filters to use, much thicker and better wicking capability. Great value for a replacement filter. I really like these.

1f95-1291 White Rodgers Premium Touchscreen Multi-stage or HEAT-PUMP Programmable Thermostat

1f95-1291 White Rodgers Premium Touchscreen Multi-stage or HEAT-PUMP Programmable ThermostatThis a full-featured thermostat which will handle most HVAC configurations. I use it to control my furnace and heat pump in a dual-fuel setup. The only improvements I could think of would be a wireless outdoor temperature sensor, more settings for temperature differential, and maybe more parameters for 2-stage furnace control. For the price it's tough to beat.

1F95-1291 White Rodgers Premium Touchscreen Multi-stage or HEAT-PUMP Programmable Thermostat

I purchased and installed the 1F95-1291 thermostat 2 years ago this May.

So far I am very happy with it. It does take a bit of programming knowledge

to get around in it. (Even for me and I program building automation for a living)

My system is a York modulating 95% furnace and a 2 stage heat pump. Everything

purchased and installed in May 2009. I have the system set up as a hybrid. I normally use

the gas heat for the most part because I like it better and its cheaper.

I put in the optional outside air temperature sensor. The wiring for the thermostat

and York furnace/heat pump is a bit complicated. I actually ran 10 conductor to the

thermostat (plus the outside air sensor cable) furnace and heat pump. I am using

almost all of them.

There are tons of features on the thermostat reminder for changing air filter,

reminder for changing the pad on the humidifier. There is a cool savings mode that

will raise the set point based on the humidity in the building. Automatic humidification

which will run the furnace fan and humidifier to add humidity to the building.

There are 39 programming steps for all the options so it gets a bit interesting.

All in all I am very happy with this product...

Whynter 5 in 1 Evaporative Air Cooler (HAC-100S)

Whynter 5 in 1 Evaporative Air CoolerI bought this based on the other 2 user reviews, and now I'm convinced these were created by the manufacturer.

There's nothing positive I can say about this product, but as for the negatives...

It has barely any effect on the room temperature when set to air-cooling mode.

It's extremely loud and obnoxious. Seriously, it sounds just like an idling lawn mower.

Emits a nasty, exhaust-like smell.

Save yourself the time and money, you really don't want this product at any price.

EDIT (6/10/11): My suspicions about the other 2 reviewers (Ken Manning, Dave Martin) at the time of my purchase can be confirmed by their reviewing and tagging history. Look for yourselfBoth have only reviewed this product (with a raving positive review of course), and have tagged every Whynter product with an assortment of positive/descriptive adjectives. Ken Manning even went so far as to tag several competing products as "defective" and "not cold". Well, I know what brand NOT to trust now.

I bought this, and it really does suck, it broke after 4 months and did not work that well in the first place, and it was really loud. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Buy Whynter 5 in 1 Evaporative Air Cooler (HAC-100S) Now

After reading the other reviews, my story is hardly unique here. The product worked (marginally, I might add) for about 3 weeks before beginning one night to emit a deafening, grinding noise. I disassembled the whole thing to see if I could figure out the problem. Didn't help. I emailed Whynter customer service and after several back and forth exchanges with basically useless ideas to fix it, I got a return authorization to send it back. I heard absolutely NOTHING from them for over six weeks until I basically hounded them about the whereabouts of my unit. After TWO MONTHS of waiting, it finally arrived again. I plugged it in and was greeted by...THE SAME HORRIBLE NOISE! After over two months, they fixed absolutely nothing. It sucks. They suck. Do yourself a favor and DON'T BUY THIS GARBAGE!

Whynter Air Cooler/Heater/Humidifier

Timeframe: 2 months

My usage conditions: 51F to 78F, Humidity 60% to 80%

Functions used: Heater, evaporative air cooler, humidifier.

Design:

I selected this primarily for the design and color scheme. I did not want another white/beige appliance or some psychedelic blue or pink candy painted device. Conventionally shaped and subtle in overall appearance. Top marks.

Functionality: The Whynter air cooler is a misnomer, while it does a solid job cooling a 150square foot space, it does a whole lot more than cool. The heat was nice to have when the temperature dipped and the humidity control is very useful when dealing with dry air resulting from heater use. Intuitive and easy to control. The water tank at the base take a bit of jiggering to slide in and out but otherwise I do not have any issues with it. The filters built into the unit do provide some degree of purification. My room air purifier lasted about 30% longer before the indicator light came on. It is light weight and portable, but be careful when you move it with the water tank filled.

Quality:

Well built with softtouch controls. The remote control was responsive and fit nicely into the attached holster on the unit. Material is were primarily plastic. Easy to clean and maintain. Pre-filter is easily removed and cleaned. No fuss device.

Price:

Quite reasonable for all that it does. I would take this over 3 or 4 separate devices any day.

Overall:

One of my better purchases this year. top scores across the board.

Whynter Eco-Friendly 5 in 1 Evaporative Air Cooler (HAC-100S)

Never quite experienced an air cooler before, it is decidedly a good product that does well for the price. This unit does a good job cooling at a fraction of the cost of an air conditioner and without the power consumption or setup needed. Don't expect the room to cool down significantly, air coolers don't work that way. This provides superior comfort in a 15ft radius.

In fact, I prefer to have this on compared to an air conditioner on dryer days.

I'm not an uber technical person but from my understanding, what it does is to use water to and the cooling effect of an evaporative process. This is especially useful for sensitive or dry skin. Currently used in the bedroom but am adding an additional unit in the den.

Not real setup is required, just fill the unit with water and set it on, it makes an odd noise when the water bucket is empty but just fill it up again and you'll be fine. The louvers are a little flimsy but can be popped back into place quite easily. It's easy to move around and small enough to put in most spaces. Oh, and it comes with handy heater mode too.

Vicks V5100N 1.7 Gallon Ultrasonic Humidifier

Vicks V5100N 1.7 Gallon Ultrasonic HumidifierWe've been very happy with this humidifier. The cool mist is very fine, so it feels more "misty" and less "damp" or "rainy" than some other humidifiers we've tried. The controls over how much or little mist it produces are effective, and it's very quiet. Although this product is a little more expensive than some other types of humidifiers, it's worth it. I know several people whose babies have been burned by warm mist humdifiers, and they also tend to breed bacteria, neither of which is a concern with this product. Also although we originally bought a cheaper humidifier, it turned out not to be as inexpensive as we first thought because we kept having to replace the wick and it quickly broke. This humidifier doesn't have "hidden costs" and is sturdy and well made.

Also if you take off the lid and watch what it does to produce the mist, it's really cool (not a reason to buy the product in itself, but interesting ....)

Our son gets asthma and croup from colds, so having a good humidifier was essential to keep his airway open. This was our third and final humidifier. After wasting our money on cheapo humidifiers that stopped working after a couple months, and that were awkward to fill and transport without spilling and to assemble correctly to get going, this humidifer worked like a charm. Sometimes there is a slight medicinal smell in the room in the morning, but it's not overwhelming, or that different from any other humidifier. We have had this humidifier for two years now and with proper maintenance it still runs like the day we bought it.

Buy Vicks V5100N 1.7 Gallon Ultrasonic Humidifier Now

We tried 3 humidifiers for our baby, and this was the best. It's quiet, and the tank is big. You can get two night's use out of a single filling. I also like being able to control the amount and direction of the water vapor. The only downside is having to clean the tank and base on a regular basis (a small price to pay when your baby has cold).

Read Best Reviews of Vicks V5100N 1.7 Gallon Ultrasonic Humidifier Here

As devotees of ultrasonic humidifiers, we snapped up 3 of these units to compete with the forced-air heat. There is a lot to like: large capacity tank, very quiet, fine mist. Unfortunately, I think there is some type of engineering problem with either the ultrasonic transducer or the water-level sensing circuit. We have sent two back for replacement, because they simply quit working -regardless of the cleaning and demineralizing routine. One replacement failed after two uses. One of the remaining three is now becoming erratic, and the ultrasonic transducer is delaminating. The water demineralizing cartridges are a great idea, and work pretty well, but be aware that they don't prevent all of the mineral dust. Still, use them.

So in short, these units are a great idea, but they need some better ruggedizing. My Holmes ultrasonic is 10 years old and still runs fine. You're lucky to get 10 months from these.

Want Vicks V5100N 1.7 Gallon Ultrasonic Humidifier Discount?

Like some of the other people reviewing this item, ours developed a bad odor after a month of use. I have cleaned the thing thoroughly according to the instructions, but it still smells bad. I cannot find the replacement filter anywhere. It's very good at producing mist, but the room gets saturated with the odor. It's the last time I'll buy a Vicks product.

Quality Importers Cigar Caddy Deluxe Humidifier, Large Foam Humidifier, Round

Quality Importers Cigar Caddy Deluxe Humidifier, Large Foam Humidifier, RoundI've tried a lot of types of humidifiers for my 30 ct, $40 wooden cigar box. This open stone, low cost, device seems to hold my % humidity between 65-70 percent more reliably than other more expensive items I've tried.

Here's Why:

My low cost humidor was Very difficult to season. And being able to oversaturate this stone helped maintain the humidity level. The bags and pillows just wouldn't keep up.

If I only use distilled water this remains usable for months, and months.

I found that even after seasoning the box, the pouches and pillows couldn't keep up with how often I open the lid (up to twice a day). I did have success with pillows and pouches when I left the lid down for at least a week at a time.

I like these because I can vary the water amount to compensate for differences in humidity levels easily and quickly. You can't throw it in an forget it, but it doesn't cost a fortune either.

I bought a few of these for 2 humidors I keep only partially stocked. My joe-brand ones had quit helping out long ago and you can really tell the difference when your humidifiers are putting out the right amount of water. The junky ones these replaced wouldn't hold 1/2 the water, so now I'm doing a lot less maintenance and the humidity is right where it should be.

Honeywell H14008 Replacement Filter for Eureka DCF- 3 Filter

Honeywell H14008 Replacement Filter for Eureka DCF- 3 FilterThe main body of this filter is about 1/16-1/8" taller than the original, as is the loop/handle on the top. All of this makes it difficult to screw the lid back on the canister. I thought I'd have to return the filter, but figured out that if you rotate the filter, you'll eventually find a 'sweet spot' that will let you slide the lid back into place (though it's still a difficult to close).

I have to say I'm surprised by the ill-fit. I'm fairly certain that my last filter was also a Honeywell replacement (but one purchased at Target), and it fit just like the original Eureka filter. Perhaps the manufacturing process isn't precise... In any case, I would look for a different replacement.

Essick Air Products MAF2 Replacement Filter

Essick Air Products MAF2 Replacement FilterThis filter is hard to find, as the other reviewers state. It does not come ring shaped. Rather, it is shipped flat, with a couple of folds. You have to reshape it to fit in the humidifier.

Also, it is a tad small. You cannot form a complete ring with it. That probably reduces the dust reduction factor of the humidifier, which is one of advertised factors in the listing ("virtually eliminates dust").

However, since the original filter that came with the humidifier was a perfect ring of the perfect size, the customer is being short changed with this product. There seems to be no alternative to it, however.

Update: I recently (Mar 24) purchased two MAF-2 Essick Filters at homedepot.com less expensive and exactly the right shape and size. Fit easily into the humidifier just like the original one. So, I would say, get this only if the homedepot one isn't available.

If you want your humidifier filters to last longer, then use filtered water and an additive to the water to prevent bacteria, as well as mineral build up. We use Golden Solution Combination by Vista Solutions. And if you want to pay a much cheaper price for these filters, go to Lowe's and look for IDYLIS Universal filters. They are currently $8.98 each. We have an Essick Moist Air Humidifier model 12010, and these filters fit fine, though they are boxed flat and have to be shaped...

I've bought several of these, and they work, gradually collecting hard water minerals until they don't work any more, after a couple of weeks (depending on your water). The only complaint is they always smell bad when I first use them, so I break them in in a small closed off room.

Want Essick Air Products MAF2 Replacement Filter Discount?

I love my Essick Air humidifier, but am seriously displeased with the absurd price for these filters. The margins on something like this must be in the stratosphere. Also, I am beginning to question the design of the humidifier itself. It is impossible, especially given the use of water decontaminant, that the impurities that clog the filter simply materialize like magic in the water. They come from the room atmosphere itself. The degree to which the MA0800 is exposed is unnecessarily high and causes additional impurities to be pulled in by the inspiration of the fan, clogging the filter (which is not high enough to prevent these same impurities from being kicked right back out into the air) to just collect filth faster, leading it to clog and prevent the humidifier to function effectively.

The box indicates that the filter should be changed "once per season." This is nonsense. The first filter clogged to the point of basically rendering the humidifier totally ineffective after only a month. It worked flawlessly again as soon as the filter was replaced, but I'm pretty dismayed at having to order more of these things after such a short time. There is nothing extraordinary about the room I've got this thing in, nor is the water I'm using (purified tap) particularly hard. Within a few months, I will easily spend more on filters than I did on the humidifier itself. Pretty ridiculous and annoying.

24x30x5 (23.75x29.75x4.38) MERV 10 Honeywell Grill Filter (2 Pack)

24x30x5 MERV 10 Honeywell Grill FilterDon;t really know if these filters work because I don't know how to tell that. However, the price was great (beat our local prices by 50%) and the service fast. Would highly recommend this purchase. The filters do grab tons of dog hair (and you can actually scoop out the dog hairwe have four dogs and a cat).
